The following morning, Jiang Qi stirred awake earlier than usual, long before Shen Yi. He carefully slipped out of their bedroom, making sure not to disturb the sleeping bundle of jealousy nestled beside him. His intention was singular: to prepare breakfast for Shen Yi. Downstairs, he moved with practiced ease, creating a perfect breakfast spread. Once the dining table was meticulously set, he quietly ascended the stairs, only to find Shen Yi still deeply asleep. He had slept more than Jiang Qi had ever known him to for the past months.
Jiang Qi approached the bed and settled onto the edge beside him. For a few silent moments, he simply watched Shen Yi, a gentle smile playing on his lips. Slowly, he leaned forward and softly touched Shen Yi's cheek. Instantly, the smile vanished replaced by a look of shock and worry. He pressed his forehead against Shen Yi's, confirming his suspicion: Shen Yi indeed had a fever.
"Shen Yi," Jiang Qi called out gently, then repeated, "Shen Yi."
