Chapter 26 - The House Warming Party

Later at night, Margaret is restlessly sleeping, before she wakes up and rubs her eyes. In the morning, Margaret visits the armory with a young African-American woman guiding her.

Margaret: Sorry to wake you like this, Chloe.

Chloe: No, no, it's cool. I'm usually up anyway. I have a cup of coffee every day when the shit hit the fan. The brain gets so wired.

Margaret grabs her silenced sniper rifle.

Chloe: I found an old cell phone from the old days. Keep it in my pocket hoping that one day it'll ring....Hey, if you happen to get a boar, could I have the leg?

Margaret looks up, raising her eyebrow.

Chloe: To make some stew for the party tonight, you know?

Margaret: Party?

Chloe: Yeah....it's to celebrate and welcome new people. Gives people a chance to meet you all.

Margaret: Sure, Chloe.

At the Berrington gate, a guard opens it for Margaret, just as two men on horses with deer strapped to the back of their horses, one Caucasian-American and one African-American, enter inside the walls of Berrington.

Ryan: Hey, you're new.

Margaret: I am.

Bryan steps off from the horse and approaches Margaret.

Bryan: I'm Bryan.

Bryan turns to the bald African-American man.

Bryan: This is Connor. We do the runs.

Connor: How do you do?

Bryan: You going somewhere?

Margaret: Just out to clear my head.

Connor: Everything good?

Margaret gives a look.

Margaret: Yeah...

Later on in the woods, Margaret sets up pictures in front of her, before shooting a picture. She then looks around.

Margaret: Goddammit....

Margaret shoots another, before looking around, finding nothing.

Margaret: Fuck.....

In a PTSD moment, with Marcus's voice in her head, Margaret shoots the rest of the pictures.

Margaret: Shit! Shit! Fuck!

In Berrington, Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Laura are having a meeting.

Kyle: You're having me as a lead sheriff?

Laura: Yep...and Sarah will be your deputy with her being your wife. I thought I'd be fit for you both. The two of you will have weapons. You patrol, walk the wall, watch out for the kids. If there's a fight, you solve it and people will listen to you.

Sarah: Because we're the authority.

Laura: Because they believe in this, honey. Because I'm telling her this.

Laura hands two sheriff badges to Kyle and Sarah.

Laura: A cop used to live here, but he died on a run.....I wanted to make sure that these badges didn't go to waste. There will be government and order which is why Cassandra is here. There's going to be a sheriff department here....it will be like the old days. People will feel safe knowing that there's a police force, government and order. Real lives. It might be horses and mills, but-

Laura notices Kyle's expression.

Laura: What? Does it sound like a pipe dream?

Cassandra: No....

Sarah: No.

Kyle: No....but there is one thing we need to discuss. Which is security.

Kyle, Sarah, Cassandra and Laura walk the walls of Berrington.

Kyle: We need a constant patrol along the walls. Not just looking for damage. These sheet metal walls are strong, but anything like an explosion from a pipe bomb can take it down. Not just looking for damage. These walls are still climbable. You should move right up the supports. That's what I'd do. People out there are the real threat.

Laura: Kyle, I know you think everyone should be armed within the walls, but I'm trusting you and Sarah to keep order with your guns.

Kyle nods.

Kyle: That's fine....but that's a change that needs to happen.

Margaret appears.

Margaret: Sorry to interrupt.

Margaret turns to Laura.

Margaret: I'm a deadeye sniper. I want to volunteer to be one of the lookouts in the clock tower. I'm former A.O.W.....me and my brother were.

Laura: There are no lookouts in the clock tower.

Kyle: What?

Sarah: How come?

Laura: It was unnecessary. There's not a need, never has been.

Kyle: Look, we need a lookout in that tower, 24/7, to spot incoming threats, human or not.

Sarah: It's the only way to see what's coming at us.

Laura: Alright. Alright. We'll make shifts.

Margaret: I'll take those shifts as many as possible.

Laura: Why?

Cassandra: Margaret's a deadeye. She's a A.O.W soldier like she said.

Laura tilts her head.

Laura: I'll put Samantha on there tonight. I'll consider you a primary lookout...but in return, I'm hosting a welcome for all of you at Sylvester's saloon.

Laura turns to Margaret.

Laura: I would like you to be there.

Margaret: Why?

Laura: Find me tonight, then we'll talk.

Margaret nods her head, then walks off. Later on, Rachel visits a comatose Abigail.

Rachel: So, it's been a few days. Berrington is really starting to grow on us....We're going to a party tonight....it's to celebrate our coming here.....Moses and I also made some new friends...they're teenagers like us.....It's nice to have warms beds...hot food...brand new clothes....Anyway, I'm gonna be honest; I think these people are fucking delusional....they haven't faced or seen the shit that we've faced in the past few years....I don't know...maybe I'm just paranoid...I think I really love Moses....and I'll see what he wants with this place...

Rachel takes Abigail's hand.

Rachel: I hope you wake up soon, Abigail....You got us here....and I hope you get to see it.

Nightfall, Kyle, Shawn, James, Sarah, Cassandra,Caleb, Rocky, Margaret, Rachel, Moses, Kayla, Chris and Savannah arrive at theparty to see the Berrington civilians socializing with Sylvester and Annaserving drinks. Savannah tugs Kayla's arm, before speaking to her in sign language.

Savannah: Everyone's dressed so nice!

Laura: Oh, my! Welcome.

Caleb: Hi.

Laura: It's so good to see you all. Hello, everyone.

Laura turns to Kyle.

Laura: Thank you for coming.

Laura then looks down at Savannah.

Laura: You know I didn't get a chance to interview this little one here. It's rare to find a child her age now these days.

Kayla: Why?

Laura: She'll get to grow up seeing what this place will become. Anyway, come on in. Enjoy the party. Get around. Meet people.

Kyle and the survivors turn to each other.

Rocky: I don't know about this.

Chris: Yeah...everyone here's so clean and....we've never been around a crowd like this.

Rocky: Well, I'll say this til I see otherwise, there is nothing that will cause me to compromise my suspicion of these people.

Rocky then notices Sylvester and Anna serving.

Rocky: Nothing except beer....I'll be back.

Shawn: Dude....

Rocky walks away. Kyle is looking around before Laura appears with Samantha, Morgan, an older Caucasian-American man with greyish hair, a young Caucasian-American man with brown and a young Caucasian-American boy with brown hair. Kale speaks with a South African accent

Kale: Hello, young man. You must be Kyle.

Kyle: I am.

Laura: Kyle, this is my husband, Kale.

Laura turns to Samanthan, Morgan and the young man.

Laura: And this is my daughters, Samantha and Morgan.

Samantha: We met earlier, Mom. This is the guy that was cursing up a storm yesterday looking for his lost kids. He also destroyed Alicia's owl statue.

Kyle: Right....good to see you again.

Kyle turns to Morgan.

Kyle: I didn't get a chance to meet you yet, young lady. How are you doing?

Morgan: Hi.

Samantha: This is my husband, Josh and my son, Seth.

Josh: How are you doing, man?

Kyle: Hi.

Kyle shakes Kale's hand, then Josh's then kneels to meet Seth.

Kyle: Hey, buddy....

Kyle extends his hand to Seth, who hides behind Samantha.

Josh: It's okay, buddy. He's a new person here.

Seth: Your scar is scary.

Samantha: Seth....

Kyle: Uh...no...no...it's fine....I know it's a bit scary...but trust me, little dude. I'm not as scary as I look....you know, we have a little girl with us that's about your age.

Kyle points to Savannah, who is holding Kayla's hand.

Kyle: She's not afraid of my scar. She's very brave. Like I bet you are....

Seth looks up at Kyle, then high fives him.

Kyle: My man! Now, why don't you go over there and run to introduce yourself to my little friend? But, hey, she can't hear so you see the big girl standing with her....she'll let you know what she's saying.

Seth nods, before running over and introducing herself to Savannah.

Samantha: You're pretty good with kids, Mr. Desipich.

Kyle: Please, just call me Kyle.

Morgan: For the record, I think your scar is bad-ass!

Laura: Morgan; language.

Morgan: Right. Sorry, Mom.

Kale: You're a pretty interesting man.

Kyle: How's that?

Joshua: Laura showed us the tapes. All the tapes. The things your wife and those other people said about you. All you did for them...especially that Rachel girl.

Kyle nods then turns to Kale.

Kyle: You two were the ones that built that wall, right?

Kale: Yeah, we did with help. A lot of it and it's a goddamned incredible achievement if you ask anyone around here....but it's just a wall. You had twelve lives in your hands. I think you had me beat, son.

Kyle: There were more....sixteen of us total for a while but..three of them died brutally out in the wastelands.

Kyle sighs.

Samantha: Well, Dad, we're still handing behind a wall, so I think it's safe to say both of you are even.

Kyle chuckles.

Kale: I'm glad you're here, son. Now go ahead and have a drink.

Kyle: No, I'm good. Thank you.

Kale: You don't have to be. You can relax.

Kyle hesitates, but eventually smiles and gives in.

Kyle: Why not?

Kale: There you go.

Kyle holds out his glass as Kale fills it with bourbon.

Kale: Welcome to Berrington, son. To a new.

Kyle: To a new.

Nightfall, the moon is fool as Rachel is leaning against the wall with a nervous face. Moses then approaches her.

Moses: Having fun?

Rachel: Just about....

Moses: Still not getting used to this?

Rachel: Not really...You?

Moses: No....

Rachel: Yeah...that's just about how I'm feeling.

Moses: Hey, at least, we're in this together, right?

Moses takes Rachel's hand and holds it tight. Rachel looks up and smiles warmly.

Rachel: That's a plus.

Rachel looks past Moses, noticing Morgan, who approaches the two teens.

Morgan: Hey, guys.

Moses: Hey, man. I thought you and the others were going to that bond fire that your sister is hosting.

Morgan: I am, but then my Mom said to be respectful to the new people, make them feel comfortable and all that shit. I am going to probably sneak out to the bond fire later, though.....

Rachel: Oh, so you're just putting on a show for your Mom?

Morgan: Yeah, but I'm going to wait til she gets enough meet and greets in her routine then quietly sneak out the back. Your Dad kinda scared my nephew, by the way.

Rachel: Kyle? He's not my Dad....and how'd he scare your nephew?

Morgan: His scar.

Rachel: Oh...that makes sense.

Morgan: Anyway, you two are still coming, right? Yeah, but I'm going to wait til she gets enough drinks in her system then quietly sneak out the back. You're two are still coming, right?

Rachel: I don't know....Morgan, you and your friends or you, your friend and your sister are nice, but....

Moses: It's just all so new, man. I've never been in an environment like this.

Zeke nods in understanding.

Zeke: It takes time. Trust me, I know. Believe me, it did for me and my family, too.

James and Cassandra are looking out into the crowd, inspecting them.

Cassandra: What?

James: All this....the houses.....the party.....it makes it feel like.....like Cratersville....Midtown Manhattan...

Cassandra: I know, James....

James: I think this might be it....You were right.

Cassandra smiles.

Cassandra: What was that?

James: Why are you making me repeat you're right?

Cassandra: Makes me feel good.

James laughs, shaking his head.

James: Looks like we got married just in time, huh?

Cassandra: Looks like we did.

James: How are you feeling?

Cassandra turns to James.

Cassandra: Better when I'm with you.

Sarah is looking around at the party just as Alicia approaches her.

Alicia: Sarah, right?

Sarah: Yeah, you're Alicia....You cut my husband's hair.

Alicia: Yeah, sorry I never got a chance to formally introduce myself. It's nice to meet you.

Alicia offers her hand to Sarah.

Sarah: Yeah, you too.

Sarah shakes Alicia's hand.

Alicia: Are you having fun?

Sarah: Yes, I am.

Alicia: It was kind of a dumb question, right?

Sarah chuckles.

Sarah: No.

Alicia: Still, this place has an amazing view.

Sarah: Does it?

Alicia: Yeah, take a look.

Alicia turns as Sarah looks out at most of the Berrington residents, including Kyle, Shawn, James, Caleb, Rocky and Chris socializing.

Alicia: Almost like a normal life....

Sarah: Almost....

Alicia: Your husband really does sound like an amazing guy.....it sounds like you two have been through a lot. He told me about Rose and...I'm truly sorry.

Sarah nods in appreciation.

Alicia: But it does get better; a lot of fucked up shit happened in the past thirty-three years. These people are from different backgrounds, different places and now all they care about each other like you and your people do....it's something, right?

Sarah: It is....

Sarah turns to see Kyle laughing.

Sarah: I haven't seen him smile like that in years.....

Margaret is looking around and then bumps into Bryan.

Bryan: Sorry.

Bryan's eyes open in realization.

Bryan: Oh, shit! You're Margaret, right? From the gate this morning, right? Bryan?

Margaret: Yep....that's me.

Bryan eyes Margaret for a moment.

Margaret: What?

Bryan: Nothing. It's just...I haven't seen any pretty girls run amuk here in a while.

Margaret sighs.

Margaret: Well, I appreciate that pass, but honestly, not really looking for something right now.

Bryan nods.

Bryan: That's cool.

Margaret: You're one of the runners, right?

Bryan: Yeah....now I promise not to make a move on you if you have a beer with me. Otherwise, you'll end up having to hear Sylvester's war stories for the millionth time.

Margaret: Excuse me.

Margaret brushes past Bryan, before Connor walks up to Bryan, laughing.

Bryan: What?

Connor: You are a fucking horn-dog, bro.

Outside the porch, Kayla is looking out into the sky just as Shawn approaches.

Shawn: Out here instead of enjoying the party?

Kayla sighs.

Kayla: I'll go back in. It's just....

Kayla turns her head, alerted.

Shawn: Don't worry. Savannah's making some new friends that are her age. Look.

Shawn turns as Kayla does to notice Savannah playing with kids at the party. Kayla smiles at this.

Kayla: I was honestly worried we were never going to find kids her age. To see her playing with kids it's....it's a good feeling.

Shawn: Yeah, it is....

Kayla: Let's hope I can use my medical skills to help this place out. Find that void.

Shawn: Hmm....is there another void you feel you should void?

Shawn steps up towards Kayla, faces inches from each other.

Kayla: Shawn....

Shawn: Hmm....

Kayla: How much have you had to drink?

Shawn and Kayla laugh.

Shawn: I am an even man and I have had many beers to make sure that I can hold.

Kayla: Uh-huh.

Shawn: You know what? I think I can finally calm down, too.

Shawn turns to Kayla.

Shawn: Can you?

Kayla: I mean, I put on this pretty dress, didn't I?

Shawn: Uh-huh.....

Outside the party, Rachel, Moses, Zeke, Morgan and Jason are participating in a bond fire, along with two other teens, Andrew and Mikayla.

Jason: Ta-ta! I have made fire!

Andrew: You do know that fire is a basic concept.

Jason: (mocking Andrew) You do know that fire is a basic concept, right? You know what is a basic concept, Andrew? This dick, motherfucker!

Andrew: Dude, making fun of a persons' knowledge is a sign of insecurity.

Mikayla: So, Rachel, Moses, you two enjoying Berrington's hospitality?

Moses: For the most part. Yeah.

Andrew: That's great to hear, my guy. How long did you two say you were together?

Moses: Three months...

Andrew: Well, that's cute! Andrew and I are almost at our year!

The seven teens had gathered around the campfire and Jason was able to get the group some food from Sylvester and the teens start cooking the food over the fire.

Morgan: Well, this is something don't get every day. How the hell did you get the good shit without getting caught?

Jason: I got my ways.

Rachel chuckles.

Zeke: Dude, Sylvester is like a psychotic tiger when it comes to guarding the mess hall. I'm surprised he didn't go full blown feral on your ass.

Jason: That's cause he's an old coot. However....I did find some good shit from his stash. The old fucker was lying through his teeth about this.

Jason digs into his pocket and pulls out a chocolate bar. Everyone gasps at this.

Andrew: What is that?!

Mikayla: No fucking way!

Jason: Fucking way!

Rachel: Yeah, what is that? It's just a bar.

Jason: Just a bar? Just a bar?! This is not just any bar. It is a chocolate bar.

Moses: Wait, you've never had chocolate?

Rachel: No....

Jason turns to Moses.

Jason: What about you, bro?

Moses: Uh....once or twice.

Jason smiles.

Jason: I'm glad you have good survival instincts.

Rachel: Hey!

Moses laughs.

Dana: Well, Rachel, this is a first time for everything.

Jason breaks off a piece of the chocolate bar and passes it around to everyone. After everyone gets a piece, they each start taking a bite out of it and Rachel closes her eyes as she relishes the chocolate taste.

Morgan: Oh, my god.

Zeke: Dude, I can't remember the last time I even had chocolate.

Rachel: This is heaven right here....

Moses: You're telling me.

Everyone hums and nods in agreement. Moses watches the scene before him with a smile on his face as his friends chatted amongst each other, whilst savoring the chocolate taste of their piece of a chocolate bar, then he turns his gaze towards Rachel, his eyes softening after hearing the sound of a genuine laughter coming from her as she laughs at a joke Morgan was telling her. At the party, Kyle is walking around as Peter, Samantha and Laura are sitting downplaying a game of what seems like cards.

Peter: Yo, Kyle! Come here, man!

Kyle then walks over to Peter's table.

Kyle: What's up, Peter?

Peter: You enjoying the party?

Kyle: Of somewhat. What are you guys playing?

Peter: War. The oldest game. A game played by both man and not man. The only game there ever is without ever losing your life.

Kyle: Sounds fun. How do you play?

Samantha: Simple. Everyone gets a stack of cards, everyone flips one over. Highest card wins.

Peter: And the winner gets to ask Kyle a question.

Kyle looks over at Peter.

Kyle: What?

Peter: I want to get to know you. We all do.

Kyle: And what if I win?

Peter: Then you get to ask one; it's only fair.

Kyle looks around for Sarah.

Laura: Looking for the wife?

Laura points across from the table, spotting Sarah talking to Alicia.

Laura: Looks like she's made a new friend.

Kyle: What about Rachel?

Samantha: I haven't seen her or that Moses boy in a while. I think they're hanging out with my sister and her friends.

Laura: And you didn't bother to tell me?

Samantha: Mom, Morgan's fifteen years old. She wasn't gonna hang around us older adults.

Kyle looks around the crowd, seeing his group of survivors and the Berrington people.

Kyle: They do look like they're enjoying themselves.

Laura: Come on, Kyle. Your people are enjoying themselves. Maybe you can, too.

Samantha: Plus, my son and your little friend are making good friends, too.

Kyle: Yeah, maybe....I mean, she's got friends like Cassandra and Margaret, but it's good to see her making new friends....

Kyle turns to face the others while Peter passes out some cards to everyone.

Laura: Peter, son. If you would?

Peter flips a card and so do the others. Kyle flips his car to see three diamonds while Peter had five diamonds and Laura had three clubs but Samantha has a king of Hearts.

Samantha: Hell yeah...

Laura: Samantha....you're a mother.

Samantha: I meant "heck yeah".

Samantha smiles.

Samantha: So, Kyle...about Rachel...where are her parents?

Kyle jumps in slight shock at this.

Samantha: I know you and Sarah have been together for a decade and a half, but she's a little older and coming from an adopted family myself, I figured I'd ask.

Kyle: Her parents are dead. Her mom died when she was a kid....but her Dad was a real bastard. She ended up killing him.

Peter: Fuck....

Laura: Thank God she's with you, then. She's a nice kid.

Kyle: For the most part. When I first met Rachel, she was just a drop off to give back to her father, but we bonded and after figuring out her father was hurting her, physically, I just couldn't give her back to him.

The four flip their next card and Kyle gets a king.

Kyle: Looks like I win.

Peter: You do. Ask away.

Kyle: You guys meet anyone famous out there?

Samantha: No.

Kyle: Me either.

Peter: It's a shame. You figure a movie star or something would show up somewhere.

Samantha: They have like millions of dollars. They're probably living in an underground fancy bunker with butlers.

Peter: Yeah, maybe.

Peter shrugs.

The four flip their cards and Samantha smiles.

Samantha: Freaking A!

Samantha looks over at Kyle.

Samantha: So....how long have you and Sarah been together?

Kyle: Twelve years. We've been through a lot.

Samantha: Yeah, define a lot.....

Kyle frowns.

Kyle: Well, we survived Kronos, Zeus Corps, the Condemned and the Krens wars together....we also both lost a lot of family together. Her entire family and my entire family are gone.

Laura: But you two are family.

The four flip the next card, this time Laura won.

Laura: Yes, I win....So...Kyle, you mentioned that you lost people out there before you came to us. What can you tell me about them?

Kyle looks down in sadness, thinking of Maya, Jenny, Joseph, and Marcus.

Kyle: Maya was compassionate....Jenny had a huge spirit.....Joseph was a religious man...and Marcus, Margaret's brother....he had confliction. They were good people....and they deserved better.

Peter, thinking of Abigail, looks down in guilt.

Kyle: They were good people....and they deserved better.

The four flip the next card.

Peter: I win. I am the greatest card player of all time.

Samantha: Would you just ask your damn question.

Peter: Ever...actually, never mind.

Kyle: What? Ask me.

Peter: It's not a cool question.

Kyle: Ask, damn it.

Peter looks down for a moment then turns to Kyle.

Peter: Ever had to kill someone you loved?

Kyle looks at Peter in shock and turns his head away.

Laura: Peter.

Peter: Hey, you wanted me to ask.

Kyle: Yeah, actually....my brother-in-law, Nathan.

Peter: Shit....what happened? I mean; what lead to it?

Kyle: Nathan was a good man, but he lost someone he loved and his heart and mind never put itself back together. He became dangerous, killed people in our group. He killed a good friend of mine, almost killed his own sister.....so I killed him. I had to.

Peter, Laura and Samantha look at Kyle in shock and horror.

Kyle: I think I'm done playing for tonight.

Laura: Yeah, it's probably for the best, son.

Kyle walks over to Sarah as Laura glares at Peter.

Peter: What? You wanted me to ask him.

Kyle approaches Sarah.

Kyle: Hey, let's go home, Sarah.

Sarah: You okay?

Kyle: Yeah...just....let's go, please.

Sarah looks between Kyle and Alicia before she turns to Alicia.

Sarah: Good night.

Alicia: Good night.

At the bond fire, about an hour goes by as all eight teens talk about their day or laugh at a terrible joke. Finally, Morgan is speaking.

Morgan: You know, my Mom always said that people used to gather around like this and sometimes they would tell stories. Like super fucking scary stories.

The teens look over at Morgan.

Mikayla: Really, Morgan?

Zeke: What could be scarier than infected?

Moses: Or Skinners? Or any of the other monsters that the wasteland has created in the past thirty-three years?

The other teens nod in agreement.

Morgan: Well, from what Dad used to say, they did some pretty fucking creepy stories. Like this one about the Chupocabra.

Andrew: Ooooh! Do tell?

Morgan smiles, before putting a flashlight over her face.

Morgan: Gather around, fellow boys and girls and let me tell you about the tale of the Chupocabra.

Everyone chuckles and starts to listen in.

Morgan: So the story goes that there was little girl named Cleo. She lived with her family in a house in the middle of Mexico, they're isolated from everything which is what they'd liked. They raised pigs, crops, horses and other livestocks.

Everyone listens, intently.

Morgan: One day, Cleo was playing in the woods with her dog, and when she turns back, she found her dog missing. Lost and scared, Cleo tried to find a way home but finds piles of weird grass in a clearing. Little did she know there was blood all over the grass, the wind was picking up on the trees around her as she then tried to find her dog, she heard it; the rustling in the trees in front of her.

The teens lean in.

Morgan: Cleo became really uneasy. She felt someone was watching her, then she found her dog's collar....covered in blood. The sound of a twig snaps and then she hears a voice almost like her father calling out.

Morgan then clears her throat and does a high pitch voice.

Morgan: "Cleo. Cheo?"

Zeke felt a bit uneasy at this, but keeps listening as Morgan turns back to her normal voice.

Morgan: Cleo calls back as she wants to be comforted by her father's voice. She says "Papa. Papa." And follows the voice into a deep, dark cave. She searches only to find the dog....brutally ripped apart....then before she can properly mourn....she hears a growl behind her...the most inhuman growl she'll ever hear, then she sees it....The el Chupacabra.

Suddenly, Rachel and Moses feels someone grab their shoulders as a loud scream sounds out. She jumps and screams as well as Zeke, Andrew, Mikayla, and Danan then she hears laughter as she looks behind him and sees Jason was behind her, laughing. Rachel glares at Jason.

Dana: Jason! You fucking asshole!

Moses: Dude! Jesus!

Jason clutches his chest.

Jason: Oh, shit. I think I'm about to have a heart attack.

Rachel then stands up.

Rachel: What the fuck?!

Jason: You should see the look on your face right now.

Zeke laughs shaking his head while Rachel dusts herself.

Moses: Guys, really. Not cool.

Rachel: You can't just sneak up on people like that! If you did and you were out there, you don't know what the other person you're trying to prank might do! They could have a fucking knife and stab you right in your head for that shit!

Andrew, Mikayla, Zeke and Morgan look at Rachel in shock.

Jason: Whoa, guys. It's just a joke.

Jason turns to Moses.

Jason: You understand, Moses, don't you?

Moses sighs, stares at Rachel then back at Jason.

Moses: It wasn't a cool joke, guys.

Rachel sighs, before walking off. Moses stares at the three teens, before chasing after Rachel. Zeke then glares at Morgan.

Morgan: What? We didn't mean to scare her. It was meant to be funny.

Zeke: Well, she obviously didn't find it funny, guys. They've been out in the wasteland a lot.

At the party, Margaret is leaning in the corner, people watching before Laura approaches her.

Laura: Margaret. Come join us. I promise all you have to do is listen.

Laura brings Margaret to a group of people as she looks around to see other people having conversations. Margaret hears the overlapping conversations and has a PTSD moment, thinking of her time on the train and memories of Maya being brutally decapitated by Lynn, Shawn carrying Jenny's body, Marcus dying from his stab wound and a dying Joseph. Brie approaches Margaret, snapping her out of her PTSD moment.

Brie: Margaret, I'm a cook. What's your favorite meal? I'd like to cook something for you whenever you and your friends have time to visit.

Margaret: I...I don't know.

Brie: Please, of course you do. Everyone has a favorite. So, what's yours? Whatever you want. I'm just worried I'll cook something you'll end up hating.

Margaret: You're worried about cooking me the wrong meal?

Margaret glares at Brie then shouts.

Margaret: A wrong meal is what fucking worries you when there's more things to worry about?!

The crowd of the party stares at Margaret, who shakes her head.

Margaret: Jesus Christ....

Margaret then walks off. Later that night, in a small house behind the house of Kyle and Sarah, Rachel is sitting in her room, drawing a picture of a house in Berrington. There is knock on the door.

Rachel: Come in.

The door opens and Moses walks in.

Moses: Hey....

Rachel: Hey...

Moses: Cool if I come in?

Rachel nods

Rachel: Sure.

Moses walks in.

Moses: So, the other kids.....

Rachel sighs.

Moses sits next to Rachel.

Rachel: I get they weren't trying to be jerks.

Moses: Well, these other kids.....they haven't really seen what we've seen or experienced what we have.

Rachel: Yeah....

Rachel sighs before putting the drawing down.

Moses: What is it?

Rachel: Yeah....if Abigail was awake, she would've knocked Jason's teeth out.

Moses laughs, before Rachel sighs before putting the drawing down.

Moses: What is it?

Rachel: It's just....I was thinking that the others...the ones who didn't make it....Marcus...Jenny...Maya....Joseph....they would've really loved this place.

Moses: Yeah...I didn't get a chance to meet Maya or Joseph.... But Jenny and Marcus.....they both deserved better.

Rachel: There's a lot of people in my life who deserved so much better.

Rachel sighs.

Rachel: Sorry to be such a downer. It's just hard to think of such good memories when there are so many bad ones.

Rachel looks down at her feet for a moment, before Moses places an arm around her. Rachel then rests her head on Moses' shoulder, finding comfort.

Moses: You know, this place is meant to make some new memories.

Rachel: Oh, yeah? Define "new memories".

Moses: Well....I can think of plenty.

Rachel looks up with an eyebrow raised.

Rachel: Care to tell me?

Moses laughs, before he kisses Rachel. After the first kiss, the two then begin to get very intimate. Rachel climbs on top of Moses, continuing to make out passionately. Moses unbuttons Rachel's flannel shirt as he then kisses her collar bone and chest. Moses then turns Rachel on her back as he then caresses her upper thigh for a brief moment. After some time, Rachel finally speaks.

Rachel: Moses. Moses, wait...wait.....

Moses sits up, looking at Rachel.

Moses: What? You okay?

Rachel: Don't you think we should slow down a bit?

Moses: Uh...sorry.

Moses rests his head on Rachel's shoulder.

Rachel: Not bad for my first make out.

Moses laughs.

Moses: What?

Rachel and Moses then laugh. The next morning, at the gate, Laura approaches Margaret with her silenced sniper rifle.

Laura: I still can't figure out what it is. What it is exactly...

Margaret scoffs, then looks around at Berrington.

Margaret: This....

Margaret then looks back at Laura.

Margaret: You people have been living in fantasy land.

Laura: Margaret, you've been through a lot...with your boyfriend and your brother and I'm truly sorry about your loss...but what you just said right there; you and I both know that's bullshit.

Laura hands Margaret an ammo box, before she opens the gate, allowing Margaret to go outside the gate.
