Chapter 3 - Revenge Loading... Episode 3

The next day, as usual, I was buried in work at my desk when Mira suddenly popped up beside me.

"Hey! Did you hear? The boss is throwing a party next week to celebrate the success of our project. And you are coming this time. No excuses. Last time you ditched us with that 'I'm sick' excuse, but not again."

I just nodded, too tired to argue. Honestly, I didn't want to go. I never do.

But lately, something else has been stealing my sleep — weird dreams. Not just weird… unsettling.

For the past few weeks, I've been having these dark, blurry nightmares. The kind where you can't see anything clearly — no faces, no voices, no clue where you even are. Just pitch black chaos. It's frustrating beyond belief.

How am I supposed to be haunted by dreams that don't even make sense?

Few hours later..

It was lunch break, so I headed to the cafeteria with Mira — and Ana, one of our not-so-close-but-we-still-hang-out-sometimes friend.

After placing our order, we sat at a corner table to wait. That's when Ana leaned in like she had something juicy to spill.

"Do you guys know that new intern?" she asked, lowering her voice slightly.

Mira rolled her eyes. "You mean the one who dresses like she's heading to a beach party? Yeah, I've seen her."

I nodded. "Same. I've run into her multiple times in the boss's office — usually when I'm dropping off files or coffee. And surprise, surprise — he suddenly needs two coffees when she's around."

Ana raised an eyebrow. "Well, rumor has it… the boss is dating her."

Mira looked scandalized. "Wait, what? But he's married. With two kids!"

"So... he's cheating on his wife?" I said, just as the waiter brought our food and started placing the dishes on the table. Great timing.

Once he left, Mira jumped right back in. "Honestly, are we even shocked? The guy's a walking red flag. He's already a fraud in business — cheating on his family just feels like another item on his list."

Ana nodded. "And you know what's worse? I don't even think that intern has a legit degree. I asked her to make a tiny correction in a file — like, something even a high school student could do — and she just said she didn't know how."

After finishing our food, we made our way back to our desks — still chatting casually — until we stumbled upon something we absolutely shouldn't have seen.

The hallway was empty; most people were still out for lunch. But we? We were early — and unlucky… or maybe lucky, depending on how you look at it.

Right at the end of the hallway, near the boss's office, we saw it — him and the new intern.

Kissing.

Passionately.

Like they were in some cringey office romance movie.

Seriously, they couldn't even do that inside the office? Have they never heard of blinds?

That moment confirmed every rumor we just discussed. But now came the real panic — if he found out we saw them? Game over. Bye-bye paycheck.

So, what did we do?

We hit the floor like trained spies and ducked behind the chairs, trying to blend in like invisible office furniture. Not a single sound — not even a breath.

After a tense few moments, we finally heard voices and footsteps approaching. Our coworkers were coming back. Good. That meant he was probably gone.

We slowly stood up, dusted ourselves off, and collapsed into our chairs, trying to act normal.

Then we looked at each other... and smirked.

"Oh, just wait," I muttered under my breath.

You messed with the wrong girls. Now it's our turn.

After wrapping up work, I headed home, followed my usual routine, and finally flopped onto my bed with my phone in hand.

We'd agreed not to talk about that incident at the office — way too risky. Who knows who could be eavesdropping? So, the group chat was our secret HQ for now.

I typed:

"Girls, you there?"

Almost instantly, both replied:

Ana: "Yup."

Mira: "Reporting for duty."

Mira didn't waste time.

"So... what's the plan?"

Ana answered,

"First, we need proof. We should've snapped a pic when we saw them. Ugh."

Mira:

"Can we get the CCTV footage?"

I replied:

"Nope. That's all under his control. Without his permission, no one's touching it."

Ana:

"They were kissing during lunch, right? So what if they do the same thing this Monday? We skip lunch, hide somewhere near the hallway, and if they start getting cozy again — bam, we take pictures as proof."

Mira:

"Ooooh, I love that. But we need the perfect hiding spot."

Me:

"I know one. I'll show you at the office."

Ana:

"Then it's settled."

Mira:

"Finally! Payback time. Overworking us like robots and not even a single penny of raise? Time to return the favor."

Me & Ana:

"Trueeee."

And just like that, Operation Catch-the-Cheaters was officially in motion.

We spent the rest of the night gossiping, ranting, and planning way too many unrealistic backup plans — as if we were in a spy movie. But hey, no regrets. It was Saturday night, and with Sunday as our day off, sleeping at 3 a.m. felt completely legal. Who needs alarms when your only plan is to nap till noon?

I finally opened my eyes — the clock showed 1 p.m.

Seriously?

I rubbed my face in frustration. "How am I even supposed to sleep at night now?"

Half the day had already disappeared, just like that. But what could I do? It was Sunday, and my bed was way too convincing.

Dragging myself out, I went to freshen up, then made a quick meal — more like a weird mix between breakfast and lunch. I wasn't in the mood to do anything productive, so I decided to catch up on some movies. Thanks to the never-ending office work, I hadn't watched anything properly in weeks.

As I was scrolling, a movie title caught my attention:

"The Cursed Alpha."

The name alone felt intriguing, so I tapped on it to read the description.

Apparently, the story was about an alpha — leader of the strongest pack — who had been cursed. As punishment, he was forced to live as a human. But here's where it got interesting: if he ever fell in love with a human, he could never return to his original form again. He'd have to spend the rest of his life as a human.

My curiosity immediately kicked in.

Would he fall for a human? Or go back to his Luna?

Only one way to find out.

I pressed play.

Before I knew it, I was completely into the movie — so much so that I didn't even notice the sky turning dark. Time slipped away quietly.

I sighed and got up to prepare something for dinner. Tomorrow was a big day for all three of us… and we needed to be more than ready.
