Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

A few days had passed and he had gotten a bit more fit and gotten a temporary job working at the port. Which allowed him to workout even more as he was lifting and moving the entire day. The old facility he bought was deteriorated and rundown. It didn't even have air conditioning. But he could still work with it.

To save on money he moved out of his 'apartment' and moved into the rundown gym. When he was not exercising or working he was fixing up this new gym. It had locker rooms with showers and bathrooms. While the place next door was a masseuse and on the other side was a warehouse.

His body was quickly adapting due to his body's new Athletic talent. The talent was helping him recover and adapt quicker. He had begun to recover but the outside world was not doing as well. The city was in turmoil.

Batman and his family were running around having to deal with a new villain that had appeared. Gotham has gained another crazy villain who had clearly no problem with killing. This one goes by the name Red Hood. The news was covering it but apparently he and his mercenary group were acting as a distraction for other criminals to run rampant.

The mercenaries were from out of town. That is the only way he would not have heard about it. Ricky was at the port at the moment. Chatting with some other workers during their break.

"Ricky!" He turned around to come face to face with their boss. He had a tablet in his hands and was adjusting his glasses as he looked down at something.

"Yes Boss?" Ricky asked as he turned to completely face their boss. Ricky closed the lid on his drink for now.

"I want you to go here. There is some special cargo that needs your attention." His boss handed him a note. He then immediately walked away.

Ricky sighed and waved at the other dock workers before he grabbed the remains of his lunch. He packed them up and started walking towards a more secluded part of the port. He quickly arrived behind some containers out of sight of any cameras or onlookers. He opened the note and read the contents.

It was written in a code he was told to memorize when he first started working at the port. It said that there was a transport of live goods that would be moved to warehouse five. He would move a corresponding set of boxes to the warehouse before he opened the container with the live goods. Which basically meant people were smuggled into the country and he had to go get their corresponding equipment boxes.

There was also the location of the truck he would use. Ricky walked to the location as he shoved the note into his drink. It would hide it for now. But he would have to dispose of the note when he got back to the place he was currently staying at.

He arrived at the parking lot where a number of the port's vehicles were stored. He walked up to a truck and opened the driver side door. Climbing inside he tossed the metal box with his lunch and the metal thermos onto the passenger seat.

Ricky looked around the truck for a moment before he leaned down and reached under the seat. He groped around until he grabbed something and pulled it out. He held a car key with tape partially wrapped around it.

A moment later the truck roared to life and he drove towards a section of the port that was for long term storage. He passed by a guard outpost but he was waved past when the worker saw the truck. Trucks were typically white with the port's logo on it. But this truck was defaced with scratch marks on the driver side. It was the truck used for illegal activities.

All of the guards were aware of it. Which is why he was able to pass right through the checkpoints and security guards. He arrived at a maze of containers of varying colors. He spun the truck around and backed up toward them. Fortunately this area had no cameras but it did have a lot more security guards in exchange to prevent small-time thieves.

Ricky opened the driver door and hopped out. He walked towards a green container with the same markings the note indicated. He grabbed the lock and began spinning to arrive at the correct combination. It popped open and he opened the green container.

He walked into the container and found a few marked with red paint. The paint was recent which is what he was looking for. He began moving them to the rear bed of the truck. There were three boxes in total.

As soon as they were in the bed of the truck he locked up the container again and headed to Warehouse number five. He drove further away from the ship's currently being unloaded to a quieter part of the port.

He arrived at the warehouse and had to climb out to open the door before driving in. Then he closed the door again before he walked toward a pair of red containers. They were both still on the beds of the trucks but as he walked forward he stopped and frowned.

One of them was just barely open and he could see something just inside of it. Ricky stopped and frowned. He went to look around but stopped as he could faintly hear something behind him.

"There is a crowbar in the bed of the truck. Feel free to use that to open the boxes that I was told to bring." Ricky told them, sighing as he put up his hands raising them above his head. "I think you were supposed to stay in the container."

A metal pipe rested on his shoulder as a woman sighed behind him. "I was when those buffoons opened it up. Seems like you were sent by the smuggler."

Ricky sighed loudly as he shook his head. "I was but I do not know anything about you. Nor do I want to." He thought for a moment. "If you put the bodies in a container you empty out then I will mark it with a spray can and inform my boss about the breach of trust on his men's part."

"Oh?" She stepped closer to him and put a hand on his shoulder. He could smell her now. Oddly despite them being in Gotham the smell of flowers was very strong. "So I should assume that you had nothing to do with their plan? They seemed to be under the impression that they were bringing in sex slaves from Asia."

"I heard about nothing." Ricky shook his head. "I was only told to bring those boxes and come unlock your container. Then I was supposed to leave the warehouse but wait outside the door for an hour before leaving for the day."

"Oh?" She chuckled while he could hear the cracking of wood.

Then he heard a young man's voice. "This is definitely our stuff." Ricky's head twitched as he was tempted by nature to look over his shoulder.

"We will move the bodies. You can leave and inform your boss." She whispered in his ear. "Do not turn around there is a door ahead of you in front of the trucks. Leave through there."

Ricky walked forward and as he walked he could hear her following him. He arrived at the door and opened it. But as he was stepping out he felt a firm slap on his ass before the door slammed behind him.

He blinked in surprise before walking away. This was only the first illegal job he had done but something had gone wrong.
