Malibu, Seaside Villa.
Jason arrived early and carefully scouted the surroundings. Tony wouldn't have dared to provoke him so shamelessly in front of the media unless he was fully prepared. Jason, being alone, didn't dare to rush in recklessly.
An hour later, his accomplices arrived, clad in menacing Joker Suits. Seeing that Jason hadn't been blinded by rage and stormed in alone, they secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
"Honey, have you scouted the surroundings?" Being cooped up at home for half a year had really frustrated Harley. She was very excited for today's battle, already eager to get started.
Jason nodded, pointing to the distant villa. "I've scouted a ten-kilometer radius. But whether in the air or on land, there are no armed forces, nor any sign of the new-energy suits. Even the villa itself doesn't look like anyone's inside."
No armed forces, no suits, not even a shadow. A strong sense of a trap was in the air.
Christine's brow furrowed slightly. "Could it be that the villa is filled with explosives, just waiting for us to walk in?"
Her guess was reasonable. After all, the only way to kill Jason was to unleash an amount of energy that surpassed his limits in a short period, completely destroying him. Tony understood this, so setting a trap was only natural.
Hearing this, Franklin said, "If it's explosives, that's simple. We can just walk in. As long as I'm here, I can make any bomb a dud."
Jason nodded silently. With Franklin around, they really didn't need to worry about such problems. The group walked carefully toward the villa. As Jason had said, there wasn't a soul in sight, and based on the signs, it had been at least three months since no one had lived here.
They stopped about a hundred meters from the villa, and everyone turned their gaze to Franklin.
Franklin lightly placed his fingers on his temples, his eyes closed, and carefully scanned all the electronic products in the villa.
After a minute, he said disdainfully, "Boss, there really are bombs in the villa. And a lot of them."
As he spoke, he disabled the bombs' remote control modules and simultaneously opened the villa's main gate.
"All taken care of?"
"Yep!"
With the bombs disarmed, the group walked into the villa, relieved.
As Tony's private mansion, this villa on the cliffs of Malibu—its location, external structure, internal decoration, and furnishings—was all perfectly impeccable.
At least in terms of aesthetics, Tony could thoroughly dominate Jason.
The villa was exceptionally quiet. Other than their footsteps and breathing, there were no other sounds.
Jason looked around, his brow furrowed slightly.
What was Tony's meaning? Publicly provoking him but then avoiding a fight—this didn't seem like his style.
Another thing was also very strange.
He clearly knew Franklin had the ability to control electronics, so why did he still fill the villa with explosives?
These actions were somewhat hard to understand.
"Beep!"
A strange sound suddenly pierced the quiet villa.
"What?" Franklin's expression changed dramatically. He roared in terror: " Bomb!!!"
His shout stunned everyone.
A bomb? Weren't they already disabled by you?
His accomplices' reactions were a bit sluggish, but Jason had maintained extreme vigilance from the moment he stepped into the villa. The instant the sound appeared, immense energy burst from his body.
The energy, so dense it was visible to the naked eye, formed a giant semi-circular energy shield, enveloping all his accomplices.
BOOM!!!
The next second, a violent explosion erupted. Walls cracked, fire burst out everywhere, and the ground beneath their feet shook so hard it was difficult to stay balanced.
The priceless seaside villa collapsed instantly. The powerful shockwave shattered the energy shield in an instant, and the aftershock alone was enough to blast all the accomplices away.
Luckily, they were in the first-floor living room, and the side they were blasted toward was a set of floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
Crash!
The group smashed through the tempered glass and plummeted into the surging sea!
The villa was blown into countless fragments, not even the foundation remained! Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, dyeing the azure sky black, visible for more than ten kilometers in every direction.
At this point, the panicked accomplices finally reacted.
Harley used several rapid teleports to move everyone to dry land, one kilometer away.
"Honey, are you okay!"
Jason, his face grim, silently shook his head.
Because of Jason's energy shield, his accomplices were not injured, at most suffering a few cuts from glass shards. Christine could heal an injury of this level with a wave of her hand.
After calming down, everyone turned their unfriendly gazes toward Franklin.
If it weren't for his last-second warning, he would have already been seized by the other as a traitor.
But even though they didn't lay hands on him, the suspicion on Franklin was not cleared. This was obvious from the wary way his accomplices were standing.
Franklin himself was completely baffled. Why had his superpower suddenly failed? The suspicion on his companions' faces made him feel so wronged he wanted to cry. He had no choice but to appeal to Jason: "Boss, I really didn't..."
He couldn't say those two words. Because from the moment he met Jason, the word 'betrayal' had been erased from his life's dictionary.
Jason stood up, looking at the rolling black smoke in the distance. His tone was drawn-out as he said, "I believe you! But I am very curious... Why did your superpower fail?"
............
Los Angeles, S.H.I.E.L.D. Hideout.
Watching the ruins and black smoke on the big screen, the conference room erupted in cheers.
All the agents were visibly delighted; months of toiling day and night had finally paid off.
On the surface, placing explosives in the villa was targeting Jason, but in reality, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s target was Franklin.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had placed a total of 50 bombs in the villa. In each explosive's box, they placed a different jammer, covering nearly the entire range of electromagnetism.
That's right. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s goal wasn't to kill anyone, but to figure out what category Franklin's superpower belonged to, and whether or not it fell within the realm of science.
This experiment was full of uncertainty, but fortunately, it succeeded.
A delighted Fury quickly asked, "Did you find out? Which bomb was it that exploded?"
An engineer sitting to the side tapped away at his laptop and answered, "It was Number 31!"
Fury spread open the files at his side, looked at them, and said, "The box for explosive #31... contained a Very Low Frequency (VLF) radio wave jammer?"
The engineer nodded excitedly. "Yes. This means the transmission frequency of Franklin's superpower is in the 3-30 kHz range. We just need to interfere with or shield this frequency, and his superpower will be nullified!"
Fury immediately asked, "Will shielding 3-30 kHz waves affect our normal communications?"
The engineer shook his head and explained, "This wave frequency is used for maritime navigation and underwater communication, primarily by ocean-going vessels and submarines. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s satellite communications are in the Super High Frequency (SHF) range, so they are completely unaffected."
After hearing the engineer's explanation, Fury and the other agents understood.
Fury gave a decisive order: "Notify the S.H.I.E.L.D. armor troops. The plan is proceeding. Move out immediately!"
"Roger!"
The conference room buzzed with activity again. Everyone's face was lit with a joyful smile.
Franklin's superpower being cracked meant the fog of mystery shrouding the Joker organization was beginning to lift.
Although it was only a small part of that fog, it gave all the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents a tremendous morale boost.
BOOM!!!
Suddenly, the S.H.I.E.L.D. hideout was rocked by a tremor. Dust trickled from the walls and ceiling.
Fury shot to his feet, calling out to the agents outside: "What's going on?"
After a moment, someone answered in terror: "An Iron Man suit smashed its way in! It's forcing its way to the conference room!"
Hearing this, everyone in the conference room had a strange expression.
Crap! Had the Joker organization found their hideout?
No, that's not right. Based on the timeline, even if Jason and his crew were unharmed, it's impossible for them to have flown here from Malibu so quickly. And... Why is there only one Iron Man suit?
Fury asked, "Is it one of the Joker organization's suits?"
A terrified scream immediately came from the other end of the comm: "It's Iron Man!!!"
