4Chapter 3

Aleister took a gulp of his water bottle as he stared around the streets, he had been running for half an hour around Brockton Bay (Making careful note to stay in ether New Wave or the PRT's territory), and he was yet again reminded just how much he disliked this city.

This area looked so shiny, so beautiful, and it was all a massive trap. It drew you in with the beauty of the high class, but the moment you left these safe areas? You'd see the true face of Brockton Bay, a rotting filthy corpse. He remembered tales from his mother, of when Brockton Bay was once beautiful and shining when she was a little girl, but it had fallen far.

He suppressed his frustration, soon, he just needed to gather strength. He couldn't let negative emotions rule him, the bay would be his kingdom soon enough, and from there? The rest of the world.

He put away his water bottle and began running, soon.

Parameters increased.

Physical - 7%

Aleister ducked under a punch and delivered a uppercut to his opponent, the other man stumbling back and-

"Game! That's some good work, go get some water boys!". A man spoke, causing both Aleister and his opponent to freeze and nod. Getting out of the ring, he walked over to his bag and pulled out his water.

Aleister had been surprised to learn there was a gym in Brockton Bay, even more so when it had an area for civilians to practice or learn self defense. He had decided to visit and give it a go, he'd need to learn better combat skills.

He put his bag on his back and began walking out of the building, he'd have to come back later, a free gym was useful.

Aleister could never tire of watching alchemy, observing as the spoon in his hand shifted and turned. He felt it becoming purer, transforming into pure silver.

He frowned, he could make rare materials yes, but the problem came with selling them. At first it could be argued he'd found some old set of pure silver items, but if he did it twice? Three times? Yes, investigations would come without a doubt. Not to mention he'd be ripped off, he knew how Brockton Bay worked.

It was best to simply use his ability to make supplies for himself, a simple Transmutation could save his life in the right occasion. He could become a nightmare for any Tinker if he could simply change their Tinker-Tech into useless scrap.

Grinning, he placed the silver spoon next to the rest of his transfigured tableware.

Spell improved.

- Transmutation (The most basic spell of Alchemy, transforming the chemical makeup and structure of things to make new things. Can now be performed faster).

Aleister winced, his body was hot, blisteringly hot. He took deep breaths as green lines spread across his skin, focus, focus...

He raised his hand and stared nervously at a brick he'd managed to find near his house, this was going to work or it was going to hurt. He quickly lowered his hand, a dull pain spreading across his hand... And a shattered brick before him.

"Reinforcement... Success". He grinned, letting the spell deactivate. He'd need to practice to ensure he could perform the spell correctly and lessen the strain, but he could call this a success.

Spell created!

- Reinforcement (Reinforces an area of the body, making it tougher, faster and stronger).

You guys are freaking lucky, the only reason this spell even worked was the fact Aleister has alchemy, or not the spell would've failed and damaged him.

Aleister was working out in his room when his phone rang, picking it up he saw the number and smiled. He answered the phone and was ready to have a pleasant conversation-

"Aleister I... We need money". The voice of his mother begging froze the not yet super villain, his mother's voice was worried, tired, and desperate.

"Mother? Whats wrong?". He asked and suppressed the rage he felt when he heard a sob on the end, who dared make his mother cry?

"I-its the bakery, w-we're, the Merchants. T-they came and, if we don't give them 10,000 in a week they said they'd...". She trailed off into sobs, and he understood the situation. That bakery had been in his family for generations, since his great great grandparents had opened it, and the Merchants are trying to put their grubby little mitts on it?

And he knew the Merchants, if his mother couldn't pay for the bakery, she'd be forced to pay with her or his sisters bodies. Ether they lose the bakery, have to pay 10,000, or his family would be forced to sell their bodies.

No, that was unacceptable. His time table just sped up.

"I'll handle it, I have... Some means to acquire the money needed. Mother, just stay safe". Aleister spoke comfortably to his mother, she'd realize without a doubt he was going to do something illegal, but for his family? His family was something NOBODY touched. "What about father? Wasn't he able to do anything?".

"H-he was injured, h-he took a bullet to the leg. The doctors said he'd be okay but...". He had to resist the urge to crush his phone in rage. He was not a angry person, but the Merchants had hit the one button they should NEVER hit.

"I promise Mother...

I'll deal with the Merchants".
