Chapter 14 - Overworked Part 2

Right after healing the boy, the silver-haired girl broke into a cold sweat. Her breath became shallow, and her body's temperature rose by a couple of notches.

She did not break into a cold sweat because she was a fraud, and she thought she got exposed—not at all!

How does one even dare to think of that?

...

Going back a bit in time, to when Seraphina waved her khakkhara at the boy, a light green energy—one only visible to the silver haired girl, had seeped out of her khakkhara and headed for the boy.

It had encircled the boy before entering his body and leaving him right away.

"Mom! I feel better now!" is what he said, right after the strange and invisible green energy had left his body.

When the light-green energy returned to Seraphina was when she started feeling weird, her head felt dizzy and her throat was hoarse and dry.

She really wanted to cough and lay down for a bit but she could definitely not do it! As a High Priestess, she had to keep the Church's image and dignity, that meant she could not even show the slightest sign of being sick.

Can you imagine what kind of image the Church— which was supposed to be blessed by the Supreme Being, would give if one of its high-ranking members got sick!?

That was also the reason why High Priest Gabriel had passed away quietly, with only his two closest daughters knowing the true reason behind it.

Seraphina restrained herself, acting like nothing had happened to her. Fortunately or unfortunately, she did not have to put up the act for long before an invisible blue aura— the same one that had healed her during her battle against the [Poisonous Venomtree], enveloped her body and whisked away any ailments or disease she may have had.

Seraphina did not exactly know what those two weird energies were, but she had managed to deduce a thing or two from the green energy by using it over the years, the blue one however, still remained a complete mistery.

The green energy of her khakkhara could actually take upon others negative status and gave it all to her!

This might have sounded like the worst thing ever, but it actually bypassed two of the most inconvenient points of regular 'healing magic'!

This green energy did not require any life force to act as a blueprint and no conversion of mana into foreign life force was needed!

Looking at it this way, this green energy was undoubtedly a wondrous power.

However, this wondrous power was also the source of one her biggest regrets...

...

A few years back, when Seraphina's Foster father had just passed away, the silver-haired girl had gone missing for a full month!

Outside of town, inside a large and towering tree, Seraphina sat inside her secret playground only known by three people— two now.

Then, Seraphina was even smaller and her hair was noticeably shorter.

Her white priestess robe was soaked but it was not the only thing soaked here! The place carved inside the tree had been flooded, for Seraphina had been crying for a month straight, without showing any signs of stopping! She did not even stop to drink, eat or even sleep!

If anyone else was in Seraphina's place, they would have definitely died of thirst as the amount of tears she had cried was by no means a small amount, it was even enough to fill an entire bathhouse!

But this did not have even the slightest of effect in stopping Seraphina, as every time she felt thirsty, hungry or tired, that strange blue energy would always come in and strangely make it all disappear.

Magically was certainly not the right word to describe this energy as even magic could not produce those effects! Only a Transcendental being could pass out on food, water or sleep, but even then, they could not possibly produce tears from water that did not exist!

'He...did...not have a long time left to live anyways...' Seraphina continuously told herself, trying to ease her guilty conscience.

Just when Seraphina told herself the same thing for the thousandth time today, the door of the secret hideout they had built creaked open, letting her tears spill out from the tree and drenching the person who opened the door.

When the tears were fully drained, the door opened on its entirety, revealing a drenched hazel-haired teenage girl in a wet white priestess robe.

"What's wrong with my baby? Will you tell me why you're crying?" asked the hazel-haired girl, her tone was gentle as if she was coaxing a small child, which she was.

Seraphina stopped crying for a moment and raised her head to look at the hazel-haired girl that had just raised a question.

This hazel-haired girl was without a doubt, Coralie. However, this Coralie was different from the gentle receptionist who had wished her a happy birthday.

She was younger and she was still part of the Church.

Seraphina threw a quick glance at Coralie before looking away in shame. Coralie's white and wet priestess robe was a bit 'see-through'...

...

But 'this' was certainly not the reason why she had looked away! She was ashamed to face her sister after what happened, not because of some perverted thoughts!

Coralie leaned in and cupped both of Seraphina's cheek, forcing her little sister to meet her face to face.

Then, she pressed her slender thumbs around those blurry golden eyes before wiping the tears that were still dropping.

"There, there~" Coralie said, gently embracing Seraphina and patting her on the head. "Don't cry, don't cry~"

After coaxing her a few more minutes, Seraphina finally stopped her crying, which Coralie noticed.

"So? Will you tell me why you are crying?" Coralie asked her again as she released Seraphina from her embrace.

Seraphina gulped on her own saliva before muttering :

"It... It's my...my fault...It's my fault that he had to die!"
