Chapter 6 Onyi's POV
My hands trembled slightly as I held Amanda's hands, my eyes fixed on the Grand dining's imposing doors,a shiver ran down my spine. What if I messed up this time? What if the king don't like me ?
The king's towering figure loomed before us, his unyielding gaze piercing as he sat at the head of the table. At his side sat a woman, the queen to be precise,her delicate features were marred by a faint sadness in her eyes, a look that seems to hold a thousand of untold stories
As we approached the alpha king's gaze settled on me, his face unreadable. My anxiety spike , with my hands trembling in fear. Amanda's reassuring smile and a gentle touch on my arm calm my nerves as I felt sparks.
"You are doing great, Onyi " she whispered
The alpha king's deep voice boomed, " So Onyi right?" I nodded "I have heard a lot about you, let's see if you are impressive in person" his tone was neutral but I detected a hint of challenge,a test I wasn't sure I could pass. The queen's voice intervened "Roman please." Her eyes though sad held a hint of warning a subtle reminder to tread carefully.
The king's gaze lingered on me, awaiting my response, my fear threatened to overwhelmed me but Amanda's presence steadied me . I took a deep breath trying to find my voice. I swallow hard trying to find my voice "Thank you your majesty for having us" I managed to stammered out. But he was looking at me displeased evident on his face. " How old are you" he demanded " 19" I cut feeling scared, "19" he repeated while staring at Amanda who avoids his piercing gaze. " Where are your parents" he continued making me uneasy. " I don't know,I'm an orphan" I stammered out.
The alpha king's gaze narrowed, his expression unimpressed. "Amanda has chosen a.... youthful mate" he said he his tone dripping with disapproval.
" No father, he's my fated mate chosen by the Moon Goddess" Amanda object " But he's a human,I can't leave my kingdom in the hands of a human better an omega" The Alpha king disapproved " I'm not sure he's ready for the responsibilities that comes with being part of a pack not to talk of a leader"
Amanda grip my hand a subtle warning to stay calm "Roman please" the queen intervened again, her voice gentle but firm. " Let's not judge Onyi solely on his age, let him prove himself worthy of Amanda's love and respect". The king's gaze flickered to Amanda, " Father please " Amanda murmured,"I just want the best for you, Amanda, and I think Beta Blake's son is a situable match for you."
Amanda's face set in a determined expression " I appreciate your concern father, but I can't reject my fated mate for anyone,I love him and I won't betray that" I sat still watching how everything unfolds. The queen's eyes met mine, a hint of encouragement in their depths " Perhaps Roman we should give Onyi a chance to prove himself?" She suggested
The king's expression remained skeptical, but he nodded curtly "Very well,Let's see how you fare, young man, but be warned I'll be watching but I don't like you for my daughter" He rose up and left the hall anger evident on his face.
