"Liam?" I said softly, not wanting to startle him.
He turned at the sound of my voice, and his face immediately brightened with a smile that made my stomach do somersaults. He rose to his feet instantly, gesturing toward the other chair.
"Please, sit," he said, ever the gentleman. As I settled into the chair, he reached for the blanket Pop Pop had left behind, clearly intending to wrap it around my shoulders.
"I'm fine," I said quickly, stopping his hands with mine. "Really, I'm not cold."
The truth was, I wanted him to see the sweater, to notice that I'd made an effort. The blanket would hide everything I'd carefully chosen, and I wasn't quite ready to give up this small vanity.
Liam nodded and settled back into his own chair, opening the basket to reveal a bottle of wine and two glasses. "Okay," I said, accepting the glass he offered me. "Bring me up to date. What exactly happened tonight?"
