Aveline spent the majority of her day seated on a park bench, watching people, with her phone on silent.
By the time darkness came, she had seen everything she needed to see.
She picked up her phone to book an Uber, and that was when she saw all the calls she purposely missed.
The ones from Atlas she hissed at. Those from Riley, she felt bad for missing until she remembered it could just be on behalf of Atlas.
There were ones from Theo, Harry, and then finally, an unidentified number.
She called that number after booking her Uber, and Sloane's voice popped into her ears the moment she answered.
"I've been trying to reach you, Ave."
"I'm sorry, but I've been occupied. Have you made a decision?"
"I didn't have to. Some guys came looking for me. Thankfully, I was able to escape before they found me. What did Seth get into, Ave? Tell me the truth."
Her mind swiftly went back to his former gang. It confused her because she thought Atlas had handled them.
