Leaning his head against the window of the black SUV he was currently riding in with Ororo and the others, Derek let his mind wander.
Easily able to do so as all he saw as they drove on the road was forest.
Until eventually he found himself looking at civilization again.
Once this occured Kitty, who was seated in the back, in the middle of him and Kurt, the latter of whom was now using his disguise, leaned in a bit closer to him.
"Welcome to Bayville, New York." She said. "I know it's not much to look at, but it has its charms."
"Right." Derek replied. Turning to face Kitty. Leading to their faces being inches apart. "Um, personal space." He said.
"Oh, sorry." Kitty replied. Leaning back.
As she did Derek couldn't help but wonder if maybe Shadowcat was a bit of a natural airhead?
"Wow Kitty, the new guy hasn't even been with us five minutes and you're already trying to make a move on him. Boy, you sure world fast." Kurt joked. A grin on his face.
His words leading Kitty to blush. Along with turn around and punch him square in the arm.
"Ow!" Kurt yelped.
"Take that back right now, you blue fireball!" Kitty exclaimed.
"Nope." Kurt replied.
Leading him and Kitty to get into a small tussle.
Ororo completely ignoring it as she continued to drive.
Same for Rogue who was sitting next to her in the passenger seat.
Seeing this Derek leaned in a bit closer to Rogue. "So, are these two always like this?" He asked.
"Eh, more or less. Though that's mostly Kurt's fault for egging her on. As he does with most people." Rogue explained.
"So he's a prankster." Derek surmised.
"Yep." Rogue curly replied.
Derek giving a curt nod in response.
Once he did he leaned back in his seat.
Doing as Rogue and Ororo did and ignored Kitty and Kurt squabbling.
Which continued until the SUV came to a stop in front of the iconic Xavier Mansion.

The moment it did Ororo turned around and glared at both Kitty and Kurt.
Leading the pair to immediately stop their little squabble.
As this occured Derek got out of the vehicle.
Rogue doing the same.
The moment they did Derek's eyes immediately landed on three people in front of the mansion's entrance.
The first being the bald founder of the X-Men himself, and the Xavier Institute, Charles Xavier. Also known as Professor X.
The spitting image of John Patrick Stewart.

'Hm, wonder what that means for Star Trek' Derek briefly thought.
Making a mental note to investigate that later.
Next up was the blue furred genius, Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy. Also known as Beast.

Finally there was the centuries old warrior wiri the metal skeleton. James "Logan" Howlett. Also known the Wolverine.
Who is the spitting image of Hugh Jackman. Including the 6'3" height.

Walking up to the three men Derek gave a two finger salute. "Hello. Names Derek Cowan."
"A pleasure to meet you young Derek. I am Charles Xavier, the founder of this school and the X-Men." Charles explained. "And the man standing at my side are two teachers at this school."
"Dr. Henry McCoy. A pleasure to meet you young man, and I look forward to helping you mold your young mind." Hank greeted.
"Logan. Welcome kid." Logan curtly spoke.
"Nice to meet you all." Derek replied.
While he did the others joined them.
Once they did Charles looked in there direction. "Good work all of you." He spoke.
"Thanks professor." Kurt replied.
"Yeah, thanks." Kitty said.
"Should you really be saying that Kitty?" Rogue asked.
"Quiet." Kitty said.
"Oh, did something happen?" Charles asked.
"We can discuss it later Charles." Ororo spoke. "Right now I think young Derek would like to settle in. Correct?"
"Yes ma'am." Derek agreed.
"Well if that's the case then please, follow me." Charles spoke.
Turning around in his motorized wheelchair.
He then heard into the building, Derek following him.
Along with Hank.
While everyone else went off on their own.
Following Xavier and Hank Derek didn't say much and simply listened as they took him on a tour of the mansion.
Only responding when they asked him questions. Namely about his life up until then.
Derek seeing no issue answering them.
Even though he one they both were doing an informal mental health assessment on them.
But Derek could understand where they were coming from.
In his new life he has no one to rely on, and then he suddenly found himself the focus of hatred simply because of his own genetic luck.
Honestly if Derek didn't have the memories of his other life there's no telling what his mental state might've been.
Since as a certain some said, all it takes is one bad day.
Anyway.
Soon Charles and Hank finished giving Derek the tour of the mansion.
At least the upper levels.
Then once they did they used an elevator and all three of them headed down to the mansion's underground/lower levels.
The place Derek truly wanted to see within the Xavier Institute.
And one that didn't disappoint as Xavier and Hank led him on a tour of the underground facilities.
From the hangar bay where the iconic Blackbird sat, to even the famous Danger Room.
Derek honestly hoping he won't have to deal with the demented AI known as Danger in the future.
But if that does occur that's for future him to handle.
Right now current him was standing inside of Hank's personal lab, getting a medical assessment of the physical kind.
One Derek didn't mind.
Since he wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with his body.
As the medical assessment occured Derek couldn't help but find Charles continually staring at him.
"Yes professor, is there an issue?" Derek asked the man.
"Well, not per say, it's just...Well my power is telepathy, and generally I'm able to pick up even surface thoughts. But when it comes to you I can't pick up anything." He revealed.
"I see." Derek replied.
Acting shocked on the outside, but inside he was grinning like a maniac.
Glad he somehow had a natural defense against telepathic intrusion.
But as Derek thought about this he suddenly recalled Virgil Hawkins didn't really display this power in the cartoon.
But he did in the comics.
'Wait, does this mean I don't have Static's powers from the television show, but the comics instead.' He thought.
Derek suddenly feeling a shiver across his entire body when he did.
Since if that was the case Derek knew he was a lot more powerful than he originally imagined.
A prospect that couldn't help but bring a smile to his face.
Once that stayed on there until Hank came over and presented him with his medical assessment results.
"Well young Derek you seem to be the picture of health for someone your age."
"Good to know." Derek replied. "So, what's next?"
"I was thinking of a little power assessment." Charles suggested. "If you're up for it that is?"
"Professor, I definitely am." Derek replied.
Since he really wanted to see what he could do.
"Very well. Then follow me to the Danger Room." Charles spoke.
"Right." Derek replied.
Doing just that.
