넓은 들판 위에 커다란 연 하나가 서 있었어요.
A giant kite stood tall in the wide open field.
빨간 종이, 노란 실, 그리고 대나무 살로 정성껏 만들어진 연이었죠.
It was carefully made with red paper, yellow thread, and thin bamboo ribs.
바람이 솔솔 불자 연이 살짝 흔들렸어요.
As a soft breeze blew, the kite gently fluttered.
태현은 연 앞에 서서 고개를 갸웃했어요.
Taehyun tilted his head, staring at the kite.
> "저걸… 탄다고?"
"Are we supposed to… ride that?"
옆에 있던 도깨비가 껄껄 웃으며 말했어요.
The goblin beside him laughed heartily.
> "두려움을 넘어서야 하늘을 날 수 있지."
"You must rise above your fear to fly."
소백은 이미 연 위에 올라타 있었어요.
Sobaek was already on the kite.
그는 살짝 떨고 있었지만, 눈빛은 결심에 가득 차 있었죠.
Though he was trembling slightly, his eyes were filled with determination.
> "어서 타, 태현아! 우리 둘이서 날아보자!"
"Come on, Taehyun! Let's fly together!"
태현은 숨을 크게 들이마시고, 조심스레 연 위에 발을 디뎠어요.
Taking a deep breath, Taehyun carefully stepped onto the kite.
그 순간, 바람이 휘몰아쳤고—
At that moment, the wind surged—
휘이이잉——
Whoooooosh——!
연은 하늘로 솟구쳤어요!
The kite soared into the sky!
들판이 작아지고, 마을 지붕이 점처럼 작아졌어요.
The fields shrank below, and the village roofs became tiny dots.
태현과 소백은 서로 손을 꽉 잡았어요.
Taehyun and Sobaek held hands tightly.
> "우와… 새가 된 기분이야!"
"Wow… I feel like a bird!"
하늘 위에서 그들은 넓은 세상을 보았어요.
From above, they could see the vast world.
산 너머, 강 너머, 하늘 아래 펼쳐진 세상엔
Beyond the mountains and rivers, under the sky,
슬픔에 잠긴 아이들, 외로이 앉은 노인들,
were children in sorrow, elders sitting alone,
그리고 서로 등을 돌린 사람들의 모습이 보였죠.
and people who had turned away from one another.
도깨비의 목소리가 바람을 타고 들려왔어요.
The goblin's voice rode the wind to reach them.
> "진짜 높이 오르면, 진짜 세상이 보여."
"Only when you fly high, can you truly see the world."
그때 연이 흔들리며, 다시 한 장의 책장이 열렸어요.
Then the kite wobbled, and another page of the book flipped open.
> 『심청이의 눈물』
"The Tears of Simcheong"
한 아이가 어두운 물속으로 천천히 가라앉고 있었어요.
A young girl was slowly sinking into dark water.
태현은 말했어요.
Taehyun said,
> "이건… 누군가를 위해 자신을 희생한 이야기야."
"This is… the story of someone who gave herself for another."
소백은 고개를 끄덕였어요.
Sobaek nodded.
> "다음 이야기는… 눈물 속에서 시작되는 거야."
"The next tale begins within the tears."
연은 천천히 강 위로 향했고,
The kite drifted toward a wide river,
다음 시련의 시작을 알렸어요.
announcing the start of the next trial.
