To the cops, Bruce's boss was undoubtedly the king of the underworld sailing smoothly without ever encountering problems but now Micah had come to challenge that.
Bruce Turner first rose to fame when he started as a public defender just after studying law abroad. He had that edge over the others and even over veteran prosecutors and when his 10 cases were all wins against the Protectorate, he signed for a major law firm. He continued to do wonders though he lost some but for a lot he cut deals. When he started taking high profile cases and winning, the law firm fearing him being poached, made him a partner.
Linking with the big guys and defending them, he became part of the big boys and was the official advisor. Noone would dispute that for what better advisor than a guy who knows the law. After 10 years with the flock, Bruce sold out the boss to the cops and inherited the throne. Noone questioned it as for all of them, Bruce held secrets. He ruled on fear and blackmail. Therefore, Bruce was immune to qny attempts to dethrone him.
However, internal problems solved, there always remained external problems. His biggest rivals were the South Africans and their cheap liquor and having control of the border post, they had as much control as him. His syndicate only fared better because he had friends in high places.
Nigerians were also a concern. They dealt in guns and that is something Bruce had never tolerated. If guns were to be available, he did not doubt that a lot of his people would try to silence him and also guns brought attention from cops and attention was something he could not afford.
Bruce's empire deals in everything from overinflated tenders, poaching, mineral smuggling, selling identities and citizenships and also anything that someone is willing to pay for. He's also managed to keep a hold on his empire by keeping in touch with all the good giys and pushing his guys to top positions by sponsoring their campaigns.
In a way, he's got more MPs loyal to him that all political parties. He's even been offered top positions but he has always turned them down.
The recent Moyo case was what he orchestrated. The Judge is, a part of his empire, the prosecutor also and that made it such that he did not have to bother with jury tampering. The cops who attended the scene had removed other things to incriminate Moyo and so the guy was free because of both courtroom help and on the scene. So Moyo is indebted to Bruce for life. That's how Bruce recruited Moyo and a lot others.
And to think, this is what the FBI and Echo have come to destroy.
