~Zayn's POV~
"If it's Evric you're waiting for," Evans said, noticing my anxious glance, "he's not coming back tonight. Something urgent came up."
My heart sank. I immediately dialed Evric's number, but it went straight to voicemail. "What came up? Evans, is he okay? What happened?"
Evans started to explain, his face serious. "He might not be able to—"
Suddenly, the front door swung open with a familiar, authoritative click. There was only one person who had a key and the confidence to walk in like that. Evric stepped inside, looking drained from the day's work but very much present.
"Babe!" I rushed into his arms, clinging to his neck. "I called you. Why didn't you answer? Evans said you weren't coming."
Evric chuckled softly, holding me tight. "I'm sorry, love. I was almost home. I didn't think I needed to."
Evric laughed, pulling me close. "I'm sorry, love. I was so close to the house I didn't see the point in answering."
"You let Evans tease me like that?" I pouted.
