Chapter 27 - Chapter 26: A Coincidental Meeting

Honestly, the Violet Tear was indeed a very suspicious mastermind. Even Ye Lan, who knew the plot, couldn't say for sure what lengths that Color Fixer would go to in order to resurrect her dead son.

In the original story, the revenge-driven Roland was sent into the Library by the Violet Tear. During the Star of the City arc, she even came to the Library herself for her own purposes, only to be turned into a book by the librarians in a battle known as a "Reception."

"Oh my, my, I'm so sorry. I seem to have accidentally made a mess of this elevator."

Roland, the protagonist of Library of Ruina, a man in a black suit nearly identical to Ye Lan's, scratched his head a little awkwardly, apologizing to Ye Lan, who was holding little Luna's hand, for the floor of injured men he had inadvertently created.

This group of Thumb underlings had come to this hospital in District 9 to take revenge on a target on their list. But while waiting for the elevator with Roland and his wife, one of them had tried to mess with the pregnant Color Fixer, the Black Silence, Angelica.

And so, on the third floor, where the obstetrics department was located, this elevator had to wait until an enraged Roland had beaten all the underlings to the ground before it could follow its programming and return to the first floor where Ye Lan and Luna were.

As for why the elevator waited so obediently on the third floor, it was naturally because our dear Miss Angelica was holding the door open button with her finger, preventing it from closing.

"Cough, cough, the Thumb... the Thumb will never let you go..."

A Thumb underling lying on the ground next to Roland struggled to grab his trouser leg. He barely managed to utter a threat before Roland stepped on him again.

"Ah, my apologies, my apologies. I didn't clean up these pests properly. Could you please have your child turn around? The next scene might not be suitable for her to see."

Roland smiled politely, but the words he spoke were rather violent. It was clear that these tactless Thumb underlings had really gotten on the nerves of this father-to-be.

"Please, go ahead," Ye Lan had Luna turn around so she wouldn't see the scene in the elevator and covered her ears with his hands. Then, while Roland was dealing with the underlings who, though unable to get up, were still cursing and shouting that the Thumb would get their revenge, he struck up a conversation with Angelica. "I never thought the famous Miss Black Silence would choose to live here after retiring."

"Oh? You recognize me. You must either have excellent intelligence capabilities, or you must be a high-ranking member of a Wing, right?"

Angelica smiled and admitted her identity, but the gloves she held tightly in her hand indicated that she was beginning to suspect Ye Lan's purpose for being there.

"Oh, I wouldn't say high-ranking..." Ye Lan's hands were still covering little Luna's ears, so he could only smile at Mrs. Angelica. "My humble self is Ye Lan, a level 5 employee of L Corp's main branch. You can relax a little. Our meeting here, under these circumstances, is purely coincidental."

"A coincidence?" Angelica glanced at the child in front of Ye Lan and tentatively believed his words.

So she asked him, "But as a direct employee of the main branch, why are you here seeing a doctor for a child? And, from your appearances, it seems she isn't your biological child, is she?"

"About that... it's a bit embarrassing. I originally intended to take care of some business during the days of constant daylight, but then the subsequent endless night prevented me from returning to the company. Coincidentally, this child rescued me at that time, so I adopted this little girl who had lost her parents after day and night returned to normal."

It had to be said, Ye Lan's little story was quite effective at moving a mother-to-be, even if that mother-to-be was one of the strongest individual combatants in the City, a Color Fixer.

Angelica's attitude toward Ye Lan visibly softened, and she loosened her grip on the gloves that contained a weapon storage space created by Singularity technology.

"Speaking of which, it seems we were fated to meet. How about I treat you two to a meal after I get my prescription?" Ye Lan suddenly made a rather abrupt invitation, causing Roland and Angelica to exchange a look.

"Oh, you two may be retired, but I still have to work. This little girl was born in the Backstreets, and she'll have to live in District 9 for a while before I can process her residency in the Nest."

"If I can get to know you two, and have the help of such excellent former Fixers, I can also work at the company with peace of mind, right?"

Hearing Ye Lan's words, the mother-to-be Angelica was already inclined to accept his invitation and, along with her husband Roland, look after the little girl named Luna a bit.

For the two of them, this was just a small favor, and they could also get to know a fairly high-ranking employee in L Corp's Nest. It was a win-win exchange of goodwill.

However, after hearing this, Roland didn't immediately accept Ye Lan's invitation. Instead, after dealing with the Thumb underlings, he pulled Ye Lan aside to a nearby corner.

When the two had moved to a spot where Angelica and little Luna couldn't hear, Roland rubbed his hands together and asked Ye Lan about the Nest residency. "Hiss... uh... Brother Ye, you can arrange for the child to have Nest residency?"

To be honest, asking a near-stranger about something so precious to Fixers was, even for someone with Roland's thick skin, quite embarrassing.

But, for the sake of giving his beloved wife Angelica and their unborn child a safe place to live, even if Ye Lan asked him to kneel and lick his shoes today, Roland felt he could accept it.

"Is that all you wanted to ask? You want to move into the Nest with your child, right? It makes sense. After all, the environment of the Backstreets, even the safest District 9, isn't very suitable for a child to grow up in. No problem, that's a small matter for me."

Ye Lan didn't need to guess what Roland wanted from him. To be honest, for him, a main branch employee directly under Manager Ayin, this was indeed not a difficult matter. He just needed to mention it to Angela, and not just Luna and Roland's family of three, but adding a zero to that, forty people wouldn't be a problem.
