Chapter 2 - A Lucky Wolf

Tyler

Today is my first day in this city. The sky is blue, cloudless, but the weather is cold. As I sip my steaming coffee, I walk to the floor-to-ceiling window of my new office. The view is of a garden of roses, carnations, hydrangeas, daisies, sunflowers, and some other native flowers I don't recognize. Beyond, the hospital parking lot is visible. The coffee is really good in this part of the world.

My attention now focuses on a motorcycle parking. A short woman with a slender, well-defined body dismounts. When she removes her helmet, her brown hair cascades down her back, and when she turns, I can see a beautiful face: honey eyes, pink lips and cheeks against perfect, fair skin, and I can tell she wears no makeup. She is truly beautiful.

Her companion is tall, blond, and I know he's a shifter, a wolf. My wolf immediately recognizes him: he's an Alpha. I lower my gaze to the beautiful woman, to the spot on her neck that should bear a mate claim, but I see no trace of a mark. She is unclaimed. This is very strange. I can feel the wolf's possessiveness when other males cross their path, which tells me she is his mate. It's very difficult for an Alpha not to mark his destined companion.

She is definitely a Luna: shoulders back, posture straight, head held high, her walk confident, as if she owns this runway, the kindness with which she greets everyone she meets, an aura of joy, kindness, and beauty around her. Her companion must have recognized me, as his eyes turn back to mine, and his body language indicates he's not happy about my arrival, much less that my eyes are on what belongs to him. Possessiveness at its finest, no doubt, she is his destined companion.

The next few hours are very busy. At the end of the afternoon, when I'm introduced to the hospital's nursing staff, I see her again: Isla. Her name is Isla, it's a beautiful name, and her scent is wonderful—it smells of joy, vitality, mandarin, and fresh rain. She could pass for a carefree teenager due to her graceful youth and energy. She offers her respects with a slight smile, and something in my heart stirs; her gaze reminds me of the summer sun, warm and gentle.

A true Luna, I think, as I head back to my office. He's a lucky wolf.
