Chapter 227 - 227 Testing Void Ice

"Void naturally floats although it might be affected by gravity and my magic is just keeping it in the air.

As for an anti-summoning magic, it would definitely slow down my casting of void magic, but the void is so destructive that it would force its way through eventually. Of course, I would have to spend more mana to cast my spells, but the anti-summoning magic wouldn't be enough to stop me."

The Relic Commander circled something on his paper then put a question mark next to it. Chronos could practically see him calculating how best to deal with a void mage.

"Just so you know, many of the living void magics available allow me to summon living creatures from the void that will undoubtedly go on a rampage once they are on this side of the summoning."

The Relic Commander frowned.

"Bring dozens of Relic Custodians or other knights when dealing with a void mage." He muttered as he wrote down his battle plan.

"Can the ice only take one form, or does it have multiple forms?" Archivist Quillfeather continued.

"[Void Ice] is similar to basic crafting magic. As long as I spend enough time and mana on it, I can shape it into whatever form I want, however its size is limited by the size of the speck at the center of the ice."

Chronos showed an example by turning it into a spear as tall as he was causing the Commander to frown even more deeply.

Chronos actually felt sorry for the man. He had to come up with a way to counter void magic while not understanding just how destructive and powerful it was. Every new revelation would force him to change his approach again, rewriting his notes from scratch.

"Is it just the ice you control, or can you also control the freezing chill?" Micheal asked.

"Oh, good question Micheal. Can you control the chill?" Archivist Quillfeather bounced on Micheal's shoulder, happy for the new perspective.

"I can only manipulate the ice and the speck with this spell but the [Cold-Moon Pressure] technique my family practices allows me to control the freezing temperature to freeze or slow others from a distance.

Not a very large distance as it only reaches about as far as I can extend my aura, but it works well in close combat."

The Relic Commander turned another page and began furiously writing.

Chronos smiled, "You know Commander, I don't think there's a way to defend against everything that void magic can do. You would need to tailor your approach to the individual and the magic they can use."

"I'm becoming painfully aware of that. With just the two void magics you know you can counter almost all of the basic and intermediate attack formations we would normally use. Please tell me that this void magic isn't a common power?"

"It's not. Even in my family that possesses a unique bloodline specifically for void and space magic there are only a dozen of us that I know can use void magic. Whether that will change with the advent of the system is currently unknown."

"I've heard about the system from the Tri-Goddess Temple recently. They're going to be introducing it by the end of the week. Is it really that helpful?"

Chronos showed an exaggeratedly serious expression.

"Oh, without a doubt. It can let you learn powerful spells or techniques you've never heard of. Teach you about powers you never knew you had. And if you're lucky you might even be selected to test new features giving you an advantage over others for quite some time."

"Hm, I see. I'll have to make some arrangements to receive it as soon as possible." He muttered.

"Well, I can help you with that. Anybody that meets the requirements can spread the system to others. As the first person to come in contact with it I naturally possess that ability."

Chronos smirked when all of the Relic Custodians flinched as the system's welcome message appeared in front of them.

The Commander glanced at it briefly before seeing Chronos' smirk.

"You enjoy causing problems, don't you?"

"Only when they are funny ones."

"Chronos, you said before that this was a living void spell. Is there a true void spell that is similar to this one?" Archivist Quillfeather asked.

Chronos smiled, now they were getting into the truly dangerous spells.

"There is and according to the description in the system when you shatter the ice on that spell the void speck consumes whatever it is touching rather than trying to reform the ice. But if you can't reach the speck then it just reforms the ice until you do.

Apparently, its power is double or more than this spell and before you ask I'm not purchasing it. True void magic is several times the cost of living void magic."

The difficulty of acquiring void magic was a comforting thought to the Relic Commander even if the two stages of void magic weren't. If they only had to deal with one or two people using this magic at a time, then they could use superior numbers to wear them down.

But the number of lives lost in doing so was giving him a headache.

"By the way do we know why it set off the alarms in the tower yet?"

The Relic Commander glanced at him, "Summoning magic is restricted within the tower. When you cast [Void Ice] the tower saw it as a powerful summoning magic with an uncontrolled unknown creature. Which is why every defense was activated."

That was the closest explanation for what had happened.

After two hours they finally stopped asking questions and let Chronos recover. He had cast [Void Ice] dozens of times during the last two hours and had discovered that with his current bloodline level he could cast it six or seven times before he needed to rest.

Having accomplished their goal, the Relic Custodians left to try and come up with a suitable counter to void magic while they had spare time.

As he sat on the floor he turned to Archivist Quillfeather.

"Archivist Quillfeather I know you're planning on taking a trip to my family's lands, but would you mind delaying that for a little while? I'd like your help in creating a new spear."

"Hm, why would I delay my journey just for a new spear?"

"Because I'm going to use [Void Ice] in its creation. Since it will be a mixture of space magic and void magic it may have some unusual effects."

That was a very tempting offer for the parrot.
