Chapter 14 - First Friend

"Also, have you seen anything like a screen appear in your vision after you woke up." The golden-haired beauty looked stood up.

"No." He said sitting up on the bed. "The screen contains all the skills and attributes that us awakened possess to let us understand them better, each time you progress a rank you get a new skill added to your technique, hence the term."

"What rank are you?" Kai asked curiously.

"I'd be the same rank as the creature you fought but a different ranking system is used for us humans, so I'm second-ranked." She reached into her pocket and handed him a key with the number 974 on it. "Use that key to enter your room in the dormitory building." She said already walking out the door.

"Thank you." Kai said. She just nodded her head and closed the door with a soft this leaving Kai alone in the small room. He looked down at the key in his hand and thought about all the things she had said to him. As for why he didn't say anything about Sakrius, if there was one thing he knew, it was that revealing all your problems to strangers was never a good idea and since there was no immediate problem it was best to keep it a secret.

Anyhow, he got up from the white bed, did some stretching to loosen his stuff joints and left the room with steady steps. As he opened the door he was met with a long hallway with people walking around, many of them injured and others on their way to recovery.

He realized that this place was some kind of medical facility.

He walked along the hallway and soon found the exit. As he walked out of the building he took a deep breathe of air and looked up at the tall buildings lining the busy street filled with people.

"This place is huge." He muttered to himself as he walked at a steady pace towards the male dormitory. Wait a minute. He stopped dead in his tracks and thought 'Where the hell is the dormitory building?' He wawhy s so excited about all that golden-haired woman told him that he forgot that's to even ask for directions. He mentally facepalmed. Now he would have to ask around for directions like an idiot.

"Hey, you lost?" He turned around and saw a short black-haired guy wearing a black hoodie and jeans waving at him. "Yeah, I'm looking for the dorm building." He answered. "Ok, follow me I'll take you there." He said with a friendly smile. "Ok" Kai replied. 'Well that was convenient.'

As they walked through the street, the short guy looked at him and struck up a conversation "You're one of the new candidates right?" "Yeah, I am." Kai said. "Me too, I'm Garen." He introduced himself. "I'm Kai." "I don't want to pry but, what's your technique?" He asked curiously.

"I'm not sure, I haven't tried it out yet." Kai answered while thinking thoughtfully. "What's your technique?" Kai asked back in return. "Why don't I just show you." He pulled back the sleeve of his hoodie revealing a snake tattoo with black scales and green eyes coiling around his wrist, with the rest hidden deeper within the hoodie.

"The tattoo is cool, but show me your technique already." Kai said with a bit of anticipation. He had justearned about all this amazing stuff so he wanted to see a big of it in action. "Watch closely." Garen said with a hidden smirk. As Kai stared at the snack tattoo, it's green eye looked straight into his as the serpent lashed it's head at him. Kai jumped back in fright almost falling over to the ground as Garen burst out into laughter.

"Hahahaha works everytime.". He said as he continued to laugh without a care in the world. Kai glared at him angrily and was about to hit him but could only pull his fist back with resentment, besides his ability was pretty cool to say the least.

"Ok that's enough, when are we gonna reach the dorm building." He asked cutting off Garen's laugh. "Actually we're already there." He said as he pointed to the large iron gate with intricate engravings covering it's surface while hiding the snake tattoo with his hoodies sleeve. The gate was slightly open allowing people to easily go in and out, and beyond that gate was a large building that looked like it could house at least a thousand people.
