Adrian took a day off work. It shocked everyone.
"I want to take you somewhere," he said.
We drove out of the city, far away from expectations, secrets, and Melissa.
He showed me a lake house he once bought for her.
"I was going to propose here," he said.
"But you didn't."
He looked at me. "No. I didn't."
We sat in silence, the water calm before us.
"I don't want to make the same mistakes again," he said.
