Adrian's mother invited us again. This time, Melissa was also there.
"She's just visiting," his mother said.
Melissa sat across from me, smug in her white lace dress.
"Still playing the perfect wife?" she said under her breath.
I smiled calmly. "Still pretending you never ran away?"
Adrian didn't say a word the whole dinner. But when Melissa touched his hand, he moved it away.
That night, he sat beside me in bed and whispered, "Thank you… for not giving up on me."
I didn't reply.
I just held his hand.
