Behind the Anbu captain of the Land of Water stood a mysterious figure wearing a mask. While the ninja before him was of average skill, Kusuo could sense a dangerous aura emanating from the masked man.
"To think you'd waste so many men on a mere child," the masked man said slowly.
The Anbu captain's face soured.
"Now that you've found me, you can leave your life here," the masked man declared, drawing a large blade from his back. An incredibly powerful chakra instantly filled the area.
Through his Transparent World, Kusuo sensed that Natsuhi had finished her battle. "Her constitution is getting stronger," he noted with satisfaction. But his gaze fell on the sword in the man's hand—the Blastsword, Shibuki. His expression tightened. The last time he had seen that blade was when Zabuza died. He hadn't expected it to be returned to its master so quickly.
From his knowledge of the original story, Kusuo knew this man had to be Jinpachi Munashi, resurrected by Orochimaru. However, given Orochimaru's current capabilities, he likely hadn't revived all the swordsmen yet. If he had, another great ninja war would have already erupted.
"Sir, there's no need for pleasantries," the Anbu captain said, stepping aside to give the masked man a clear shot at Kusuo.
The masked man stepped forward, blade in hand. "Very well. Let's begin."
Jinpachi gripped the Blastsword and swung it with immense force. Kusuo stood his ground, unmoving. With his reaction speed, he could easily dodge the blade at the last second. But to his surprise, a familiar figure suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Natsuhi!" Kusuo frowned. "Are you alright?"
Based on his assessment of Natsuhi's abilities, she might stand a chance against the current Jinpachi if she went all out.
"Don't worry, Lord Kusuo. I can handle him alone. I won't have any problems."
"Peacock Method! Open!"
Boom!
A massive wave of fire erupted around Natsuhi. Kusuo took a step back. Through his Transparent World, he noticed something interesting: a mysterious chakra thread was connected to the back of the masked man. It was clear someone was controlling him from behind. Yet, Kusuo was certain the man was Jinpachi Munashi. He knew from Ibiki Morino's intelligence that Orochimaru was behind this.
Letting Natsuhi fight Jinpachi would be a good training exercise. After all, Jinpachi was one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, and Kusuo intended to collect all seven blades. While one was currently with Kisame, obtaining the other six would be a significant boost to his forces. Since this Jinpachi was being controlled, he was likely fighting at his full potential.
"Be careful. He is much stronger than the others you've faced," Kusuo warned, closing his eyes to use his Transparent World to check Natsuhi's condition. Her chakra was at about half. Besides her fire chakra, the amount of purple-black chakra was very low.
"Don't worry, Lord Kusuo," Natsuhi replied, quickly forming hand seals. A blade made of condensed fire chakra appeared in her hand, allowing her to close the distance between her and her opponent. Kusuo watched with a hint of admiration.
"Where did this little girl come from?" the masked man sneered, but his grip on the Blastsword remained firm.
"Hyaa!" He swung the Blastsword at Natsuhi's head. She immediately raised her weapon to block. A loud clang echoed as her body was sent flying back several steps. Jinpachi, however, stood his ground, the Blastsword unwavering.
Kusuo wasn't surprised. Jinpachi was one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, and even as a reanimation, his power was formidable. In the original anime, the resurrected Jinpachi had caused considerable trouble during the Fourth Great Ninja War. While it wasn't all seven of them attacking at once, this single swordsman was already proving to be a challenge.
"Fire Style! Fire Dragon Jutsu!"
