"Meow? Who are you? Why are you looking for him too?" Nekomata tilted her head, looking confused at the red-haired girl. The 'him' she referred to was, of course, Wise.
Corin, who had a lifelong soft spot for cute creatures, couldn't help but gulp as she watched the Cat-person make such an alluring gesture. Don't get the wrong idea; she just found it incredibly cute and wanted to pick her up for a cuddle.
"Ahem, sorry. I just overheard you talking to yourself and heard a name that caught my attention. You see, Wise was just... just on a date with me."
Corin's face flushed red as she finally managed to say the words. Nekomata was shocked to hear this, but after a moment's thought, she shook her head. "It must be a coincidence. Because Wise also arranged to meet with me today... Meow?!"
Nekomata let out a sudden cry, sensing something was wrong. Corin felt it too. After the two of them compared notes about Wise, the last shred of doubt vanished.
"That jerk, Wise! And here I was, worried about why he kept disappearing... I can't believe this is the reason!"
Rage burned within Corin. After the sudden departure of her father years ago, she had become extremely sensitive to anyone leaving her. And now Wise... he was taking time out of his date with her to see other girls?! Unforgivable! Absolutely not!
Her teeth-gritting display startled Nekomata. But beneath the anger, there was a hint of sorrow. Why would Wise do this? Did I do something wrong? Am I not important enough in his heart? Will I be abandoned?
At this thought, Corin bit her lip and clenched her fists. Nekomata watched her, slightly surprised. Although she was also angry at Wise's actions, seeing Corin look so furious yet on the verge of tears, she wondered if Wise had never told her about the others. It seemed entirely possible.
After a brief emotional fluctuation, Corin forced herself to remain calm. She then turned to Nekomata.
"You..."
"Meow?!" Startled by Corin suddenly addressing her, Nekomata thought she was being mistaken for a homewrecker and was about to be disciplined.
Fortunately, it wasn't what Nekomata had imagined. Corin, in a trembling voice, simply asked if she wanted to come with her to find Wise. She needed to find Wise and demand an explanation. As for Nekomata, she seemed to be another innocent girl who had been deceived. The thought that other cute girls besides herself had been tricked only fueled Corin's anger.
Seeing Corin's state, Nekomata didn't dare say anything and could only nod in agreement. However, her timid appearance only deepened Corin's misunderstanding.
Let's return to Anby and Ellen. The group had moved to a more secluded area with no passersby. As the two continued their standoff, a phone suddenly rang.
Anby frowned slightly, took her phone out of her pocket, and saw a message from Nekomata. The message was simple, asking if she was also at the Carnival, if her date was Wise, and a series of similar questions.
Anby paused for a moment, then quickly understood the situation. It was clear Nekomata was in the same boat. Realizing this, Anby didn't say anything. She nonchalantly turned off her phone and looked back at Ellen.
"You and Wise... how far have you gone?"
"Huh?" Hearing Anby's question, Ellen's mouth fell slightly open in confusion, as did the onlooking trio of friends. They all thought the same thing: Is she about to launch a verbal assault?
Perhaps only Anby herself didn't realize it, but to the other three, her question was pure provocation.
However, completely unaware of the problem, Anby saw that Ellen hadn't answered and assumed her question had been too subtle. So, she became more direct.
"Have you slept together?"
"Wha-what?!"
"No? Then have you kissed?"
"You..."
"Not that either? So you've only held hands?"
"...Yes. So, what are you trying to say?" Ellen's tone was flat, her eyes glaring at Anby with a hint of anger. She suddenly felt an inexplicable sense of defeat.
But Anby just shook her head. She wasn't trying to say anything. She was just thinking that, for someone with Wise's abilities, it was surprising there hadn't been much progress after all this time. It seemed this girl named Ellen was a difficult type to handle, especially considering how much time had passed since they first met.
Of course, Ellen and her friends had no idea what Anby was thinking. In their eyes, this was the victor, having finished her provocation, now showing pity for the loser.
"Hey, don't you go too far!" Seeing their best friend being treated this way, the trio couldn't stand it any longer. Ruby immediately stepped forward.
Mona and Lynn joined her. Though the three stood together as a united front, Ruby was the main damage dealer, with the other two providing backup.
"It's rude to just come up and ask all these questions, you know? Besides, you keep asking Little Fish... I mean, Ellen, questions. What about you? How far have you and that guy gone?"
"Yeah, yeah! And showing up with that cold attitude from the start."
"Uh, sh-she's right... they're both right..." Hearing this, Ruby and Lynn both turned to stare at Mona, making her blush, before all three turned their glares back to the slightly bewildered Anby.
She clearly didn't know what she had done wrong. They were just normal questions. And what cold attitude? She was always like this.
However, her stunned silence was interpreted by the friend group as a paper tiger being exposed, feeling angry and guilty and thus not daring to speak. Even Ellen thought so. Could it be that this girl Anby's relationship with Wise is similar to mine, with no real progress?
But they were all mistaken. Just as the trio was about to press their advantage, Anby spoke.
"Mhm, we've slept together." (The original words were probably: I let him sleep with me...)
