Thaddeus stepped back slightly, clearing his throat. "I was just passing by and thought I'd say hello before heading home," he said casually.
Kayden met his gaze, knowing full well that wasn't the truth. Still, he didn't call him out. Instead, he spoke gently, "You know… You don't have to come all the way here. I know you're worried, maybe even missing me, but I just need to focus and study right now. Cheer me up from afar, okay? We'll be together again soon."
Thaddeus' smile softened, his eyes warm. "My Kayden… he's finally growing up. Okay, I've heard you."
Kayden gave a small nod, then added quietly, "More so… you coming here will make Darren suspicious of me."
Thaddeus smirked, clearly understanding the hidden meaning. "Alright."
Without saying much more, Thaddeus reached into the back seat of his car and pulled out a small bag. "I got these for you," he said, handing them over.
Kayden accepted it with a grateful smile and leaned in for a quick hug.
