"This time I was too reckless. I hope this friend won't hold it against me," Mu Ye apologized to Zhou Haoyu.
For someone this young to possess such strength, it couldn't be just talent he was surely backed by a powerful family or major force.
Zhou Haoyu glanced at Mu Nujiao, then responded calmly, "Since there's someone familiar present, let's forget it this time."
Mu Ye noticed the small gesture and instantly had some suspicions. Could this guy be interested in his sister?
"Let's deal with the magical beast first. I'll properly apologize to you afterward," Mu Ye added, sounding a little anxious.
Zhou Haoyu didn't reply, which could be taken as silent agreement.
"A while ago, the servants discovered a cave behind the estate. It's about one and a half meters tall. Judging by the surrounding clay, it seems to have been dug just a few days ago."
"Were there any casualties?"
"A gardener died."
Mu Ye's tone was flat, and his eyes showed no emotion, as if that life didn't matter at all.
Zhou Haoyu didn't foolishly criticize him.
This world was inherently cruel. What reason did he have to lecture others? It was enough to manage himself.
"Have you gone in to investigate?" Zhou Haoyu asked further.
"No. The entrance is too narrow. If we force our way in, we might get ambushed by the magical beast," Mu Ye replied.
One and a half meters wasn't exactly impossible to crawl into, but doing so meant facing the magical beast head-on.
And with one careless move causing a collapse, they could easily be buried alive inside.
"Can't you just widen the entrance or get an Earth Element Mage to reshape the terrain?" Zhou Haoyu questioned.
"No. Without damaging the foundation, even a High-Level Earth Mage would struggle to manage it," Mu Ye denied.
"Forget it. Just take us to the cave and we'll take a look ourselves."
Zhou Haoyu had the feeling that Mu Ye was hiding something, like he didn't want others to discover whatever was down there.
Everything had to start with investigating the cave.
"You go back inside with Miss Ai first. I'll take them around back to have a look," Mu Ye said to Mu Nujiao and Ai Tutu.
He spoke politely to Ai Tutu clearly aware of her background.
"Brother, I want to go too," Mu Nujiao immediately said.
Mu Ye frowned, his tone revealing some displeasure. "It's too dangerous there. Just stay inside and be good."
"I want to go too. Mu-sis, let's go together. We've got this guy protecting us, right?"
Ai Tutu chimed in to defuse the situation while winking at Zhou Haoyu.
In Ai Tutu's opinion, Zhou Haoyu must be really strong maybe even on par with her brother.
"Just taking a look won't hurt. If things really get dangerous, the house won't protect anyone either," Zhou Haoyu added.
Mu Ye thought about it and agreed it made sense. He didn't argue further and simply walked ahead to lead the group.
Behind the estate was a mountain, and the cave lay at the base of the rocky slope. The area around the cave was composed of solid rock, with a layer of clay on the outermost surface.
Though only about one and a half meters high, the cave extended downward, so getting in wasn't the hard part getting out would be.
"If it could dig through bedrock, it's definitely not a snake. More likely something from the Scale-Armor class. Beasts like those have insane defense stronger even than the Armored Cockroach and are worth several times more."
Lingling had only observed for a brief moment but already gave a thorough analysis.
"Scale-Armor class..."
Zhou Haoyu shot a subtle glance at Mu Ye. Was this guy eyeing the beast for himself?
Mu Ye may be the legitimate heir of the Mu family, but the family wouldn't pour all its resources into him. After all, his talent wasn't as exceptional as Zhou Haoyu's.
And a beast like this could easily be worth over a hundred million no wonder Mu Ye had something in mind.
"So, have you come up with a plan?" Mu Ye asked, his tone laced with urgency.
"I do have a plan, but are you sure you want to kill the magical beast?" Zhou Haoyu asked.
With his current spiritual energy, plus the two enhanced silver flying daggers, he could take down any magical beast below Commander Level.
A flash of hesitation appeared in Mu Ye's eyes. A couple million wasn't much to him, but if he could capture a magical beast worth over a hundred million, it'd be a massive gain!
"Uh... is there a way to lure it out instead?" Mu Ye asked after a brief pause.
Zhou Haoyu shrugged and turned his gaze to Lingling.
Lingling was the real magical beast hunting expert he was just a combat hand.
"We can try using Luring Beast Powder, but I'm not sure it'll work. And even if it does come out, do you have a way to restrain it?" Lingling asked, her eyes holding a trace of doubt as she looked at Mu Ye.
Capturing a beast was far more difficult than killing one.
If it were that easy to catch magical beasts, hunters would all be filthy rich by now.
"Don't worry about that. My primary element is Plant. I've already mastered High-Level Magic. As long as you hold it off for a little while, I can trap it," Mu Ye said confidently.
The gap between High-Level and Mid-Level Mages was enormous.
Not only was there a huge power difference between High-Level and Mid-Level Spells, but High-Level Mages also had control over their magic.
To put it simply: while Mid-Level Mages were still training their basic attacks, High-Level Mages could already chain silky-smooth combos to wipe out a boss.
"That may be true, but this contradicts the information on the commission," Zhou Haoyu said.
"I'm only asking you to stall it for a bit. That's much easier than killing it!" Mu Ye said anxiously.
"A contradiction is still a contradiction. If anything goes wrong, we won't be able to shoulder the blame," Zhou Haoyu said calmly.
Lingling gave him a curious glance. This guy didn't usually act this way.
"Can't you be a little flexible? Mu-jie and I are Mid-Level Mages too, you know. With so many of us, how can we be scared of one magical beast?" Ai Tutu said, her bright eyes carrying a hint of disdain as she looked at Zhou Haoyu. She had actually thought this guy was pretty amazing before.
"Heh, if you left right now, I'd actually be less worried," Zhou Haoyu retorted.
Ai Tutu froze for a second, then realized what he meant he was calling her the burden of the group!
Bastard!
Ai Tutu raised her fists to punch him but was stopped by Mu Nujiao pulling on her arm.
"Stop messing around. We have more important things to deal with."
Hearing Mu-jie speak up, Ai Tutu could only pout and take two steps back.
Mu Ye wasn't stupid. He quickly caught on to what Zhou Haoyu meant and said, "If you have any conditions, just say them."
"Simple five times the commission fee," Zhou Haoyu stated directly.
He wasn't exactly short on money, but he wasn't going to let someone take advantage of him either.
Mu Ye's expression darkened. Five times the commission fee wasn't a small number forty million in total.
But compared to that pure-blooded magical beast, forty million wasn't much.
