I felt my throat tighten, my heat raging in cruel mockery of my helplessness.
They moved to the bed. Xavier shrugged off his jacket, and Vera climbed onto him without hesitation, pressing kisses that I couldn't help but hear, each sound a dagger twisting deeper.
The pain twisted in my gut like a dagger. A deep, clenching ache that ripped through my abdomen. I clutched my abdomen. The heat inside me had become a living thing—ravenous, clawing, punishing.
It crawled beneath my skin, boiling me from the inside out. My fingers shook in agony, and raw, ragged breaths escaped my lips. I tried to cry out, but the sound curdled in my throat.
Xander joined in, his hand sliding over Vera's thigh, whispering words I wasn't meant to hear but couldn't block out. My skin burned, sweat slicking my palms. My wolf screamed for release, but I clenched my teeth and begged it to silence the tormenting desire that made me feel weaker, not stronger.
