From blankly staring at the steel canteen, Kael raised his head and scanned the room with tired eyes. Before sunset, they had arrived at a nearby town—the same place where Eryn had 'bought' the horse a few days earlier.
The young mercenary had suggested they stay the night before continuing their journey. Kael, weary and still unsure whether to return to the temple or not, agreed without protest.
Eryn didn't say much after that. He simply entered the nearest inn he found, talked briefly with the innkeeper, and after a short while, ushered Kael into a modest upstairs room.
Just as Eryn turned to leave again, Kael, confused, called out, "Where are you going?"
Eryn paused at the threshold, turning halfway to glance back. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "Just checking something," he said.
