When Kael arrived in front of the door, he didn't need to knock because the door was already wide open. He didn't even have to peek inside to know what was happening; the gap was large enough for him to see everything clearly.
Eryn was with a woman.
Kael froze on the spot, eyes locked on the scene before him. Then the woman's coquettish giggle echoed out of the room like a slap to the face. His body reacted before his mind could—he straightened, spun on his heel, and stormed off toward the stairs.
But just as he was about to ascend, he collided with someone coming down.
"Watch where you're going!"
The man's angry voice exploded beside Kael's ear, so loud it made him wince and his eardrums ring.
Kael quickly bowed his head. "I'm terribly sorry."
He hadn't even noticed the burly figure until they were chest to chest. His eyes had been wide open, but his thoughts were elsewhere—clear as day.
