"So, how many did you get? Is it enough?" Eryn asked, smiling expectantly.
"Ah… I only have twenty gold, a few silver, and… more than ten copper coins," Kael replied with a crooked smile. He cleared his throat and admitted, "That's not enough, is it?"
"Hm," Eryn replied with just a small nod. He stood straight and glanced around a few times, then suddenly, he laughed.
Kael also looked around, wondering what was funny. But after seeing nothing except the vast stretch of grasslands to their left and the mountains they had descended from to the right, nothing seemed remotely amusing.
His brows drew together. "Hey… don't laugh at me," he said to the young mercenary with a slight pout. "I'm going to pay you the full amount, don't worry. I just need to ask the temple for a few extra coins."
Eryn cocked his head slightly. "I'm not laughing at you, Priest Kael," he said, though amusement still laced his voice. "I'm laughing at my own foolishness."
