" Colonel Mason, your are charged with breaking the universal weapons treaty by working with radioactive materials in hopes of creating a weapon. What do you plead ? "
" Not guilty, General."
Colonel Victor Mason age forty five , single with PhDs and masters in biology, physics and engineering. He had done his research on robotics and prosthetics and this enabled him to save the lives of soldiers on the battlefield, even amputees could return to active service because of his work and for that he has received numerous commendations and medals.
That Friday afternoon, he stood before the General staff in a court Martial because he made a humanoid robot, and not only that , he was powering it with a plutonium core, it was miniscule but under the right circumstances it could wipe off anything in a one hundred miles radius.
" I did this for the country, to spare those men the horrors of war. Those are little boys out there and the war is escalating to the point of going nuclear. If we mass produce these machines, they would replace the human soldiers , saving the lives of thousands. They have no fear and would complete any objective given to them without any objections why can't you see the future in that . You want to sacrifice something so pure, the lives of men with families when a much more safer alternative exists. If I am guilty of anything, it is being a patriot and clearly you are not." Victor said to the council .
" May I remind you Colonel that you are still a soldier in the US Marines, please watch your words unless you want the charges of insubordination to be added to your trial." A General with an overgrown mustache said.
" I Colonel Victor Mason solemnly swear to protect the constitution of the United States from enemies both foreign and domestic and to obey the orders of the president of the United States.
I do not care about this trial at all so I'll be informing you now that exactly one hundred of my machines have been deployed into hostile territory, these machines are made with a titanium, tungsten and steel alloy covered by ten layers of graphene, they are also powered by as you all know a plutonium core that will enable them function for even hundreds of years. Their mission simply is to cut off the heads of the snake, all individuals who are deemed a threat to the peace and stability of the United States would be eliminated by them."
"Colonel Mason your are out of line , how dare you act without orders " the entire room fell into an uproar.
Then the head judge spoke up,
" Colonel Mason, based on your acts and your unrepentant attitude, this court finds you guilty and sentences you to the most disgraceful end for a US Marines, your are to die by the electric chair."
" Why should I die, this isn't fair I was trying to save American lives , I am a patriot, i am a patriot." Mason shouted as he was being dragged off by the military police.
As this was happening two robots emitting signal blockers landed inside the grounds of the Kremlin in Russia. Alarms blasted out indicating that there were unauthorized intruders on the ground.
The robots just as the were designed ploughed through the security personnel, as their armor deflected the bullets that were fired at them . With speeds of up to one hundred and fifty miles per hour they cleared through security within minutes not that there were much security anyway. They then breached the building and into the bunkers where they proceed to exterminate the Russian president and the staff present in the facility.
The same could be said about other nations and organizations. Several news channels broadcasted footage of seven feet metallic robots destroying foreign government buildings and wiping out enemy soldiers like flies.
The whole world saw it, some considered it barbaric even the Americans that were being fought for. Some others saw it as necessary to put a stop the unnecessary wars.
The White House was being hounded by calls from diplomats and head of states begging to start negotiations and even Congress and the Senate were now saying that things had gotten out of control.
Their solution was to offer amnesty to Mason in exchange he would call of the operation and retire the robots.
Mason agreed to this , but by the time he was done, the governmental structure of many hostile nations had collapsed, Russia in Europe, Iran in the middle east, China in Asia and Egypt in Africa.
But then things don't always go as planned, during the White House press briefing, one reporter asked ,
" Mr President, I have people claiming that Colonel Mason was acting with your permission is that true ?"
" Of course not . Colonel Mason is a very good friend of mine , infact we grew up together and I served together with him in the military. It is because of him that I do not have to live disabled." The president said showcasing his prosthetic hand that could have passed for being real . He then continued.
" Colonel Mason despite all the lives he has saved and helped was grief stricken by the continued lingering loss of life fell into a depression and these factors caused him to spiral. He used his position as head of military research to get resources for those abominations that he built to commit heinous crimes against humanity.
If it were someone else, I would have made sure to have them executed. But in light of his mental illness, congress and I have decided to have him remanded in a mental institution to get the help that he needs."
And so just like that , Mason was taken from his cell in the dead of night with a hood over his head and thrown in the back of a van.
He had no clue about where they were going and sensed that things were not going to end well for him that night.
After driving for a while, Mason was dragged out from the van into the snow and without warning, he was shot at the back of his head.
And just like that a man who crossed a line to protect the sovereignty of his country was imprisoned, discredited and eventually murdered by the country he was trying so hard to protect.
After his death , the department of defense ordered that his robots be taken into the lab for study but were altimately shocked because once an unauthorized probe touched the the machines, it triggered a defensive mechanism that shattered the lead shell that protected the plutonium causing radiation to leak out in high doses and causing the machines to be destroyed to avoid radioactive contamination.
