The group get back to HQ and they have informed Lark of everything
"By 'scent' could he mean your power signature? Whatever he meant by that, now we know that you are 100% on his radar and he will most likely speed up his plans to get more power in order to get you!" Lark says
"That's what I was thinking as well, a little weird but that would make sense" Shift replies
"With this news and time being so short we'd have to use our prototype watches designed to make travel easier and faster especially for you Shift, except their not fully finished yet" Lark says
"What do you mean?" Shift asks
"The watch we gave you earlier is an old model and only shows the universe you're in the new model has that as well as the image, sorta like a live feed and that would make it easier for you to see and imagine being there" Elias explained
"If it means not having to use that teleport we did earlier it's a win for me!" Shift says happily
"We've managed to calibrate it based on my information, meaning you can see a lot of different universes making it easy for your portal travel, however you must not go alone as you don't know what happens in these worlds…" Lark instructs him however, Shift pulls a arrogant face
"Do you have that?" Lark adds
"Yes! I understand" Shift replies, a little annoyed as he loves sightseeing and would love to visit even more worlds
"Okay. Now Shift, Keno and Elias, your goal is to using the new watches Shift can portal you all quickly to these 6 worlds faster"
Each world looks different. An frozen world with the number #U.75 , a world where the winds blow rapidly with enough force to cut again with a number underneath it saying '#U.584' and so on for the rest for the other worlds too, a world that looked like it had a mountain city - #U.3584 , a jungle world - #U.4572C , a volcanic world - #U.847 and lastly a grey ash world - #U.104.
Lark explains while showing the 6 worlds on the screen
"closing the rifts will weaken 'The Displacer' and more importantly save the world the rift is connected to."
"Okay we're on it!" Elias and Keno say in unison
You can count on us Sir!"
Shift nods his head in agreement.
The next day.
Shift opens a portal to another world properly for the first time.
They all walk through the portal and reach a world…The Volcanic World!! Universe 847!
Keno uses his abilities to create and give some heat to Elias to use as heat resistance and goes to give shift the same however he stops him.
"I should be good, I have a layer of protection over myself that I imagined myself! It should be enough to withstand the heat" Shift says
Keno puts up his hand in an 'okay' gesture.
"Let's scan for the rift's energy signal" Elias says while taking out the scanning machine"
Shift stops him
"There's no need, after coming in contact with it I can sense it for some reason…it's this way!" He says while pointing east as he does that the floor shakes violently
"What the! What was that?!" Shift asks in a panic
"That sensation! It means the rift is getting active! If we don't hurry up it'll start to drain this world at a fast rate and if we're stuck here we'll also be absorbed" Elias says
They begin to move east , they get to a large volcano and on the side of it is the rift. It's pulsating energy out.
"Well it looks like you were right Shift , you can definitely sense the rifts now" Elias says as they all look at it while the Rift Dwellers are there below
"It's just a nasty energy I feel , like a real bad summer heat you can't escape from…I'd rather not" Shift says
"Seeing as we have 5 other worlds to do after this we should hurry up!" Shift says as they all move down , they all are fighting the dwellers pushing forward at a rapid pace towards the rift suddenly
Keno, who hasn't spoken a single word since they landed spoke…
"We need to hurry…with the rift reaching critical it will create something stronger to guard it"
As soon as he finished talking, the world shakes even more violently , and electricity is shooting out in different directions into the surface destroying it. Suddenly a big strike lands in the centre and something appears out of it…
A large black creature, sleek , with an exoskeleton plating , almost like living obsidian statues. Multiple red glowing eyes that blink independently, scanning for threats. Long segmented tendrils from its back.
It let out a massive piercing scream as it released a shockwave that disrupts and weakens the dimension energy while also disabling their techs.
All of the dwellers instinctively changed and became more coordinated. Everyone began to struggle a little bit as they started attacking much more effectively and with more speed , even flanking them trying to do coordinated attacks.
"This just got a lot more annoying, back up isn't an option now either " Keno says as his gear is now fried and smoking
"Shift, that's a Rift Sovereign! We don't know much about them but they can somewhat command the dwellers, turning them from mindless to a fighting army!"
The Sovereign raises his hand towards the group and all of the dwellers charge towards them like an army.
"Shift…you worry about teleporting to the rift and closing it! Me and E will take it from here" Keno says taking initiative
"Don't you worry! We'll handle it" Elias says, ensuring it.
Shift says "good luck" and teleports away towards the rift
Keno puts on his headphones and begins to play music from his dimension. An upbeat song. One of his favourites and Elias uses his wind magic to transfer the waves from the headphones to his ears as well so he can hear the song
"It's time to lock in!" Keno says as both him and Elias prepare for their ultimate weapon.
"Let's do it!" Elias agrees.
