Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Deadly Setup

"Hehe, no rush. Miss Wen, let's look at the goods first before discussing the deal. You shouldn't have any objection to that, right?" the man surnamed Gong said again, calmly.

"Alright," Wen Dong replied with two simple words, but her expression suddenly changed. Then she said to Ye Mo, "Open the box and turn it around for Mr. Gong to see."

Seeing Wen Dong's change of face, Ye Mo realized she had discovered the person hiding nearby. Although he didn't know how she found out, her reaction showed she had her ways. It was unclear if she spotted the ones behind the door or those hidden behind the screen.

"Miss Wen, I know you're formidable, but no matter how skilled you are, it still takes about ten seconds to open the box and assemble the gun inside. In those ten seconds, I could kill you many times over. So I hope no one acts impulsively," Mr. Gong said, then sat down, mocking Wen Dong with a cold stare.

Ye Mo was also surprised; he wondered where Wen Dong got the confidence to trade with this Mr. Gong — wasn't it like a lamb entering a tiger's den?

"What do you mean by that? And why are you having armed men stand at the door? Mr. Gong, you wouldn't go against basic honor, would you?" Wen Dong said, completely unflustered, as if talking about something unrelated to her.

Clap clap The man named Gong clapped his hands and said, "Miss Wen, you're just as impressive as before. But honor in this underworld is worthless nowadays. Come in."

At Gong's voice, the two armed men at the door stepped in and pointed their guns at Wen Dong and Ye Mo. Unexpectedly, the four men behind Gong held guns but did not raise them.

Only then did Ye Mo realize Wen Dong had spotted the two men at the door but not those hidden behind the screen. Ye Mo's spiritual perception locked onto the fingers of the two men by the door; as soon as they moved to shoot, he would dodge immediately. He wasn't sure if he could dodge bullets yet, but before reaching the third stage of Qi cultivation, it would be dangerous.

Wen Dong acted as if unaware she was being targeted. She took a timer from her pocket and calmly said, "If Mr. Gong really wants to discard honor, I don't mind if we all go together. True, there's a gun in my box, but also a timed bomb. Its power isn't huge, but it would flatten Mr. Gong's house with some to spare. I believe Mr. Gong wouldn't doubt the bomb's strength."

"Haha, Miss Wen sure jokes well. Jiang Yan, bring the stuff for Miss Wen to see. And you all, put away your guns. Don't you know Miss Wen is the guest?" Mr. Gong said, signaling the two men at the door to put down their guns. He clearly knew Wen Dong's game — playing with bombs was as easy for her as lighting firecrackers.

Wen Dong ignored the commotion and opened the box. Everyone's eyes fixed on her as she assembled the gun at dazzling speed.

Although Ye Mo didn't time it, he was sure Wen Dong took less than ten seconds. Though only a few seconds, due to concerns over Wen Dong's bomb and not seeing what she brought, Mr. Gong's face flickered several times but he chose not to have his men shoot.

Ye Mo knew for sure there was no bomb inside Wen Dong's box — he had scanned it spiritually before.

Wen Dong picked up the assembled rifle and pulled Ye Mo close to the left side. Ye Mo smiled bitterly — although this avoided turning their backs to the two men at the door, it meant their backs were now to the men behind the screen.

Sure enough, Mr. Gong smiled faintly and nodded at the man carrying a box beside him.

The man opened his box and walked up, showing Wen Dong a box full of US dollars — probably over a million.

Ye Mo cursed Wen Dong silently for being stingy — she brought over a million dollars, but only gave him a few ten-thousands as a getaway fee, and let him stand at gunpoint.

Still, Ye Mo opened his own box and aimed it at Mr. Gong. Meanwhile, he took a piece of broken wood from a chair's backrest and broke it into eight splinters. He flicked one splinter backward with precision; the splinter passed through a small hole in the screen and hit the hidden man behind without changing his posture, killing him instantly.

No one saw Ye Mo's move. The splinter contained true energy that pierced the man's forehead and sealed his vocal cords. Ye Mo never showed mercy to those who threatened his life.

After killing the man behind the screen, Ye Mo deliberately moved closer to the center so his spiritual perception could better observe the enemy. Wen Dong reluctantly followed him.

The man holding the dollars came to Ye Mo and glanced at his box. Wen Dong held a gun in one hand and some stacks of dollars in the other, inspecting them.

After seeing Ye Mo's box contents, the man nodded.

Mr. Gong smiled and said, "Alright, that's settled." Then he unexpectedly turned and left.

Ye Mo's spiritual perception immediately detected the hidden man behind the screen moving his finger to pull the trigger. At the same time, Ye Mo flicked the remaining seven splinters and dragged Wen Dong several meters aside.

Ye Mo didn't understand why the man wasn't afraid of the bomb, but it was possible the man saw what Wen Dong opened with some device. Wen Dong had really underestimated her situation.

When Mr. Gong agreed, Wen Dong felt something was off and was about to raise her gun, but Ye Mo pulled her away at that moment.

Confused why Ye Mo pulled her away in such danger, Wen Dong realized after several sharp gunshots that someone was hiding. Without hesitation, she raised her gun to fight back — but saw only Mr. Gong standing, no one else.

What happened? Seeing blood flowing from the brows of the two men at the door and the four men near Gong, Wen Dong immediately realized Ye Mo had killed them.

"That was a misjudgment," was Wen Dong's first thought. Ye Mo was no ordinary man — he dodged the gunfire in such a short time and killed at least seven people. If Ye Mo hadn't pulled her away, she could kill six before being shot, but she definitely couldn't dodge bullets from behind the screen.

"God, who is he?" Wen Dong was shocked.

She immediately noticed blood dripping from the screen and gunfire coming from behind it. She now knew there was indeed someone there — and that person was killed by Ye Mo.

Thinking of the hidden enemy, Wen Dong turned to look. Blood was dripping from behind the screen. Cold sweat broke out on her back. If it weren't for Ye Mo, she wouldn't have known how she almost died. Two hidden men aimed guns at her, and she hadn't noticed.

No wonder she felt uneasy when entering — that was why. Even if she could bring backup, what use would that be?

Two light footsteps approached. Ye Mo heard them and was ready to kill again with splinters. Wen Dong raised her gun — two shots later, the fight was over.

Ye Mo nodded silently — Wen Dong couldn't hear footsteps like he could, but she could detect approaching enemies, proving she was a veteran.

Mr. Gong stared at Wen Dong in disbelief, his face pale. Because he knew Wen Dong was conceited, he set up this deadly trap — only to be utterly defeated. If he had known her bomb was fake, he would have killed her sooner.

"Gong Huishan, you wouldn't want to kill me over just a million dollars, would you? Are you planning to silence me?" Wen Dong's face darkened, raising her rifle to press Gong.
