Chapter 20 - Battle

Pointing the revolver at Hitleck's face, Kiya looked furious at Hitleck.

"We trusted you."

"Trust me? I was not even your friend to begin with." "Hitleck," he said with a smirk, sarcastically.

"I can still shoot you."

"Try me then."

Kiya's hand was shaking, holding a revolver for the first time; fear had struck him. He could pull the trigger, yet he still pointed it.

"See? You don't have the courage, the manliness. You were a fool to even trust me. A guy who had the prison's layouts completely memorized, and still, you trusted him. But I commend your guts and instinct; if it weren't for them. You wouldn't have found out anything."

Kiya thought about it for a second, realizing that his intelligence didn't play a massive role in finding the killer. It was mostly guts, not that intelligence did not play a role. His guts were superior. Instincts, that of a primal animal, made him unique.

"Tch, why would you even hide between us? You did not have any reason for it." Kiya said, still clutching his pointed revolver.

"How do you know that? Hmm, Guts? No. I do have a reason; I see it in you. Her, the reaper." Kiya's eyes widened, having heard Hitleck's words.

He thought about his relationship between Hitleck and Lady Death. What could it be? Getting a sense of insecurity, he stepped back a few steps. He looked at Hitleck, waiting for his next words.

"As you can see, I have a really not-that-great relationship with Death. I can't have one of her minions in my area, you know."

"You know Death?"

"Oh, you confess that you know her; my intuition was right." Hitleck said with a smirk.

"What? You didn't know that I know Death?"

"I did, but I wanted to make sure that I was correct."

Having fallen for Hitleck's trap so easily, Kiya felt embarrassed.

"The thing is…" Hitleck started walking to the left. "Ah, forget it. Why would I tell ANYTHING to a dead man?"

"What about Thomas?" Kiya gulped, his hand aching from holding the revolver for so long.

"Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, but Thomas is also my ally of sorts. THOMAS!"

Thomas started twitching before walking towards Hitleck. Cameron's eyes also widened.

Those who were silent started gasping, unable to process this predicament. But Frederick was calm, chanting something.

"Thomas?..." Hitleck walked right, Kiya's revolver still following Hitleck's head. "Everything till now has been a lie, and Thomas has only been my puppet. To think that someone would consider himself a genius just because of his guts is sad."

Mockery's arrow hit Kiya right in the heart. Not to lie, but he had considered himself a bit smart, but not at a genius level. Hearing these words, Cameron also got angry, to think that Thomas was fooling him the entire time.

"Seeing no possible way to escape, you must be surrendering, right?" Hitleck grinned. Kiya didn't respond.

The guard, baffled by all that had happened, stood there, looking at the revolver, which was once his. As the tension grew, Kiya's pain also grew; holding a revolver for nearly ten minutes and not missing the target was pretty painful. Nonetheless, he had to come up with a plan. Kiya's eyes, fixated on Hitleck, spotted movement; looking down, he saw Hitleck's shadow twirl with a bluish tint.

Kiya looked at the shadow, loosening the revolver for a second.

"FOOL!!!"

"Shit, I let my guard down."

Suddenly, Hitleck dashed towards Kiya, claws out; he launched his hands onto Kiya, who, baffled, quickly backed out. The shadow's twirl became eccentric and quick. Shadows again grabbed Kiya's attention, then BAM! A bullet left the gun, speeding towards Hitleck. SWISH! Barely dodging the bullet, Hitleck slowed down before accelerating towards Hitleck.

"SHIT!"

Seeing this, everyone got stunned but, regaining their will, ran towards Hitleck and Kiya. Then something happened... Rocks started to shake, then bounce, and then levitate out of the ground.

Claws, appearing out of Hitleck's shadow, grabbed the ground and rocks. Jumping out, a distorted human was seen; it was very disturbing, and the smell of rotten fish and blood filled the air. Everyone, taken aback by this, backed down.

The humanoids were large, about eleven feet tall.

They looked on as two more jumped out of his shadow.

One of them looked at Kiya, pulling its long tongue out and licking its lips, mouth watering. It lunged, SWISH, the claws cut Kiya's clothes, then SWISH, another one came, this time cutting through Kiya's pants.

Cameron, seeing this, rushed to help Kiya.

"Shit, he is going to get killed at this rate."

"SHIT, I am going to get killed at this rate." Kiya said to himself.

As the two humanoids surrounded Kiya, he felt terrified. Claws scratching his skin made him feel true fear; the fear stunned him for a moment. As the humanoids realized this, they lunged towards Kiya.

"SHIT! IT'S AIMING FOR MY CHEST."

Looking terrified, Kiya tried to avoid it, but the claws caught him at the end, and a breaking sound filled the air.

'It... got me..."

Kiya felt dizzy, the last thing he saw being the monstrous face of a humanoid. Blacking out, Kiya fell to the ground.

"Ah, Death gave one more chance, throwing it away."

Suddenly Kiya felt as if he were floating.

"What? Am I not dead?" Kiya opened his eyes to see the starry spheres he saw when he first died.

"Lady Death?"

"Ahh, you died again?"

"Uh... Yes." Kiya said, embarrassed.

"Mm, no need for an explanation; I saw it all."

"So... where are you going to take me?"

"Oh no, you still have some tasks to do for me, so I am sending you back."

"What? REALLY? But doesn't that break the laws of nature?"

"It does, but I am a celestial being, aren't I? Besides, you have some tasks to complete for me. So, go."

"What are the tas—"

He swirled like a whirlpool before turning into a star. After a while, he opened his eyes to see the humanoids looking at him and Cameron running towards him.

"What? I don't have a claw in my chest, and Cameron just started running now, which he did about thirty seconds ago. Did I get revived thirty seconds before my death?"

Fear struck Kiya again, but this time, he knew the future. As the humanoids lunged at him at once. Again, Kiya pointed the revolver at him, this time with a calm expression. His hands still ached; with shaking hands, he pulled the trigger, then BAM! A wail was heard. Looking at the humanoid's head, a hole was formed; the bullet successfully struck the humanoid.

Kiya looked proud, taking a step back and aiming the revolver at the next one, which also dashed towards him. BAM! BAM! Two bullets flew across the humanoid's head; it lunged forwards, unaware of the third bullet. Another wail flew, filling everyone's ears.

"Why couldn't I shoot Hitleck like this? Love and friendship?"

He looked around; a dead monster, a wounded one, and Thomas. Hitleck didn't attack Kiya for a while. Wondering where he went, Kiya turned around to see... no one, no one but Thomas.

Twitching, Thomas turned his head towards Kiya before getting engulfed by flesh and meat; he rose up, like liquid in a bottle. Kiya looked on as Thomas transformed.

Genzo was also petrified but remembered that he had a goal now: getting out of this hellhole with everyone. Frederick was still chanting, and Cameron got to Kiya to help. Seeing Cameron and Kiya preparing for a fight, Genzo was filled with a fiery will.

"What a drag." Genzo ran towards Kiya and Cameron, but he felt his hand twitching. Stopping for a moment, he examined his hand; before leaving it, he ran towards Kiya and Cameron.

Genzo's hand still twitched.

But where did the Demon go?
