Chapter 22 - Havoc

Kiya watched the play while tentacles danced in the air.

Thomas's wicked smile gave Kiya an eerie and uncomfortable feeling. Thomas was halfway through taking his humanoid form. The swelling tower of flesh still flung its tentacles at the slaves, hoping to kill. Thomas had a strong feeling that this anomaly would be stronger, yet smaller.

"AHAHA…"

Soon, a horrific laugh came from Thomas's direction, it was unpleasant and nightmarish. Their clothes were torn, and Frederick was still chanting something. Kiya and Cameron helplessly observed in order to figure out a weakness.

"We are not going to escape at this rate. I want to see her."

Suddenly, Kiya got an intuition, almost like a divine intervention.

"Wait, could we shoot the heart?"

"What do you mean by 'the heart'?"

"It talked to me earlier." Kiya's serious expression was convincing, to say the least.

"A heart? Talking?"

"Yes... Believe me, the heart did... talk to me."

"Are you sure?"

Kiya turned to Genzo. He looked at Genzo with a serious but confused look.

"Yeah, I believe so."

"Bruh."

"…"

"I guess I will believe you for now; I just want to get out." Genzo began reminiscing about his peaceful life. "My forest…" He muttered to himself as an imaginary tear traced down his face.

After a while, Genzo remembered Kiya's words. He had told Genzo earlier that the guard was still on the battlefield and that he still carried ammunition.

"Alright, Kiya, I will look for that… guard."

"Come back soon… please."

"…" Genzo ran towards the boundary of the stadium before quickening his pace and sticking close to the wall.

WHOOSH! SWISH! SLASH!

A barrage of quick slashes came his way, produced by Thomas. Kiya, suddenly taken aback by the unusual barrage, tried to run across the field, avoiding its wrath. But striding along the field did not mean the avoidance of the tentacles' anger. Kiya looked at the tentacles raging towards him. SWISH, he forced his feet against the ground before jumping, barely avoiding the first one. Then came another, WHOOSH! Kiya suddenly weakened his knees, making him drop to the ground; ducking, he pressed his palms against the ground to avoid the tentacle flying through his face.

SWISH! Halfway through getting up, he saw another one, again raging towards him. With time lessening and the tentacle quickening, he jumped, evading the tentacle; unfortunately, the tentacle nicked him.

Meanwhile, Genzo, still clinging to the dirty walls, spotted a concentrated portion of bushes; the roars of the ongoing battle from behind made Genzo worried, but beliening in Kiya, he scraped his fear. Still wondering if he might find the guard there, he got close to it, detecting a greenish uniform. The guard wore the exact one! — Genzo's thoughts flashed. Genzo proceeded towards the bushes with quickened steps, not thinking of it as a trap.

He reached the point where the uniform was just ahead of his feet.

"AHA, got you!" Genzo yelled, thinking he had found the guard, only to be frustrated.

"Where did the guard go then?" Genzo looked at the bush ahead to see a figure hiding.

"HEY!" Genzo yelled; the guard, baffled, also screamed, but in fear.

"Oh… I thought it was that monster… Oh god." The guard exclaimed after screaming. He was out of breath and gasped for air.

Genzo exhaled, creating a sense of tension. "The bullets."

"What? You want my bullets?, No way, this is the only thing I have for self-defence."

Genzo wore a confused expression after the guard spoke. "What? What can you even do with bullets without a gun?"

"I could get a gun." The guard stated, nodding his shoulders with a hopeful expression.

"Such delusion fascinates me," Genzo said, hoping to annoy the guard.

"Why do YOU care? You are just a slave." Hearing these words, Genzo's expression became more serious than before, mixed with a hint of anger.

"Give me the bullets or, as Frederick said, you WILL walk around toothless."

"Uh… No. No, I will not, I don't have to listen to a slave's orders because I am an independent man who knows how to take care of him-"

With that, Genzo broke, pulling his hand backwards before landing an uppercut on the guard's jaw, which got shattered, and the guard became unconscious.

"You deserve this." Genzo took the bullets out of the guard's inner pockets before running off in Kiya's direction.

"Shit, this monster is not stopping, doesn't it ever get tired?' Kiya mumbled to himself.

"KIYA!" Genzo yelled as loudly as possible, even though he was right, before Kiya.

"Did you get them?"

"Yeah, here." Genzo took the bullets, a total of six, out of his pockets before giving them to Kiya.

Carrying his victory, he put the bullets into the revolver before pointing it at the abomination. Kiya scanned across its body. After a while, he found it, the heart. He looked at the heart and tried to speak to it once again. Failing, he muttered — "Sorry"— BAM! the bullets blew across the flesh of the monster, one of them missing the heart by an inch.

BAM! BAM! One of the bullets hit. "Bullseye," Kiya said smugly.

"Damn, you were true, this abomination DOES have a heart." Genzo gazed at the red, vein-y, pumping heart bust like a firework.

"Told you!"

Thomas wailed, blood boiling under his skin, forming a bubble before finally popping after a while. Thomas, covered in blood, swirled uncontrollably, releasing its tentacles all at once. The tentacles became increasingly unpredictable, striking the wall at times and smashing the ground at times.

"Shit, it's destroying everything."

"Yeah."

"We gotta find the exit."

"Could've waited MORE," Genzo spoke sarcastically.

"Let's go."

They started running before realising that the gates were all shut.

"We can't even get out, the gates are all shut," Kiya said.

"Shit!"

"Well, we'll have to survive until it dies out."

They ran along the walls, where the tentacles hit fewer. Many tentacles came their way, which they evaded.

"Wait, what if I shot it once more? Nah, that wouldn't work." Kiya answered himself.

"AAHAHA." The domain was filled with the sound of laughter from one man.

They looked up to see a familiar figure standing in the air. After a while, he jumped down, creating a dusty arena on impact.

"Hmm, pathetic."

At last, the demon leapt.
