"You've got a plan? Don't tell me you're going to carry that monster across the Pacific?!"Hearing Clark say he had a way, Nick Fury's first thought was that Clark planned to fly the monster all the way to the U.S.
Fury frowned. While such a feat might not be difficult for Clark, the public panic caused by flying a hundred-meter-long monster across the sky would be enormous.
"Of course not. I've got another way."Before Fury could press further, Clark hung up.
He then activated the energy inside his body, extended his right hand, and began drawing a large circle in the air.
As his hand moved, sparks of blue lightning crackled in midair before him and Diana. The glowing trail followed the path of his hand, quickly forming a glowing blue portal over 20 meters in diameter.
Through it, one could see a vast expanse of water stretching out to the horizon—it wasn't clear whether it was a sea or a lake.
That portal led directly to the giant crater-lake Clark had created on the border of New Mexico—known now as Circle Lake.
Because Clark himself had created that lake, he knew the exact coordinates and was able to open a direct portal to it. In contrast, he hadn't been able to open one directly to Japan, since he'd never visited it before.
"Let's go."Once the portal was stable, Clark gave Diana a nod. Then, without waiting for her help, he grabbed Godzilla by the tail and began dragging the massive creature into the portal.
Godzilla let out guttural roars of protest, but it was no use. Powerless to resist, he was hauled through the gateway under the stunned eyes of onlookers.
On the other side—New Mexico.
Clark stepped through and found himself standing beside the familiar lake.
"This place looks even better than I remember."He looked around. In the year since he'd formed the crater with his solar flare, nature had begun to reclaim it. Reeds lined the shore, fish leaped from the water—no one knew how they got there. Perhaps brought in by birds, perhaps through underground water channels.
The lake remained undisturbed thanks to its remote location—and the fact that Fury had planned to build a secret base nearby. Since then, Clark hadn't seen a single soul.
Satisfied with the quiet and the scenery, Clark nodded."Guess I really was destined for this place. I started preparing a year early."
With a final heave, Clark hurled Godzilla by the tail into the lake.
The exhausted monster splashed into the water. Realizing he was finally out of danger, Godzilla closed his eyes and drifted into sleep.
Diana stepped through the portal and joined Clark on the lake's edge.
"You're just throwing him in there?"She was skeptical. Clark had claimed he wanted to raise the beast as a pet, but now he'd just tossed it into the lake without any safeguards.
"Don't worry. Let him settle in first. Training comes next."Clark grinned."I'll beat him up every day. Eventually, he'll know who the master is. Just not sure what he eats though. Think the fish here will be enough?"
As he spoke, he casually closed the portal behind them.
"Is Banner still not back?"Diana suddenly realized something.
Clark paused. After her reminder, he too realized they'd forgotten someone. But after a moment's thought, he shrugged."He'll figure it out. There's always the plane."
Elsewhere…
Watching the livestream on his phone, Banner sighed as he saw the portal close right after Diana stepped through.
He turned to the Japanese taxi driver and said in Japanese,"Turn around. Let's head back to the airport."
"Excuse me?"The driver was caught off guard. Had he heard that right?
"Japan is too dangerous for me. I'm going home," Banner said casually.
"Understood, sir."The driver didn't know how to respond. But with everything happening—news reports, livestreams, radio broadcasts—it was clear Japan had just experienced a monster attack straight out of a movie.
And the one who defeated it wasn't Japan's own Ultra hero, but a Superman from across the ocean.
The driver didn't even know if Japan had an Ultraman anymore… but in this moment, he really wished they did.
Because if movies taught them anything, it was this:If a monster shows up once… it's definitely coming back.
And maybe, just maybe, the driver thought to himself… it might be time to consider immigrating.
Meanwhile, in a lab…
Explosions erupted inside the facility.
Boom!
Looking at the test subject writhing and combusting in its containment chamber, Aldrich Killian turned to Maya Hansen and said grimly,"No. This version of Extremis may have better healing and heat control… but the genetic breakdown is accelerating way too fast. It's still unstable."
The sample had exploded just from a minor injury triggering the Extremis virus. Killian glanced down at his hand thoughtfully.
Currently, he had the third-generation version of the Extremis virus in his body. It granted incredible regeneration, enhanced strength, and the ability to emit high heat. Even normally fatal wounds could heal in seconds.
But it still wasn't enough.
Killian was ambitious. He wanted more. Stronger versions. Greater power.
He'd seen the kind of gods walking this world now—Superman, Asgardians, Avengers. Even with Extremis, he knew he didn't stand a chance against them.
He'd seen what Superman could do…And he knew:"One glare from that man… and I could be dust."
