Chapter 136: The Second Net Cast
George returned to the real world after spending 27 months in the Naruto World, while less than three months had passed in the real world. Despite the short duration, George experienced remarkable growth in strength during his time away.
In George's opinion, the ninjas in the Naruto World had a rather primitive understanding of gravity and repulsion. To date, humanity has discovered four fundamental forces: gravity, electromagnetism, the strong force, and the weak force.
These forces are physical and fall within the realm of natural science.
Newton's classical mechanics, Einstein's theory of relativity, and quantum mechanics have provided extensive insights into gravity and its relationship with matter, establishing the foundations of modern natural science.
Gravity and repulsion are present in all matter: from neutrinos, quarks, neutrons, and protons to atoms, molecules, nebulae, galaxies, and planets. These forces contribute to the phenomenon known as the Hill sphere.
Some theorists have proposed that gravity and repulsion are the origin of all other forces, driving the universe's evolution and determining everything within it.
While gravity appears to regulate its magnitude, it fundamentally influences the curvature of space-time. So, what can be achieved by controlling gravity and repulsion?
Many possibilities exist, such as manipulating gravity, enabling spatial movement, creating black holes, and even crushing stars. Hence, George realised that he still had a long way to go; even just exploring the potential of gravity and repulsion offered profound opportunities.
Upon his return to reality, George rested for a day, mostly to spend time with his wives. Thankfully, Alice's current focus was on magic, resulting in her attending fewer social gatherings with other upper-class wives.
During Christmas, Alice planned to gather children under twelve on Hogwarts Island to teach them magic. The group was small, consisting of only a dozen or so eligible children, so George supported her initiative. Since he couldn't always be there for her, it was beneficial for her to engage in activities she enjoyed.
Yui had initially come to the island for that very purpose, to teach. While Alice worked out lesson plans and spelling routines, it was usually Yui who handled discipline, pacing, and grounding it all in structure.
She never treated it as charity work or playtime.
For her, teaching was a duty. She didn't push herself into Alice's ideas, but her presence was always felt. It was she who set the tone early on, and Alice adapted her part to it.
Alice had matured in her way, and her curiosity with magic wasn't just academic. She showed a genuine desire to build something of her own, something independent of her role as George's wife. George respected that.
And watching Yui encourage her, even subtly, made it feel more like a shared home rather than just cohabitation.
The next day, George went to Dr. Erskine's laboratory to check on the progress of the soldiers' enhancements. "Hello, Doctor," he greeted, finding Dr. Erskine hunched over a microscope.
"Sir," Dr. Erskine said quickly, standing up.
George smiled faintly. "No need to be so formal. We're both here to push boundaries."
"Of course. How can I assist you today?" Dr. Erskine asked.
"I wanted to learn about the progress of the serum enhancements. How is it going?" George asked, casually flipping through the report the doctor handed him.
"All 1,000 soldiers have completed their enhancements. Here is the comparison table, which includes detailed records for each one," Dr. Erskine replied.
"You've worked hard, Doctor. By the way, here is my blood sample. Please analyse how much the Super Soldier Serum could affect me," George said, producing a small tube of blood from his pocket.
"Alright. Please wait a few minutes. The analysis won't take long," Dr. Erskine replied and took the sample.
Eight minutes later, Dr. Erskine returned with the test report.
"I'm sorry, sir. After testing, it appears that the current Super Soldier Serum does not affect you at all. As you know, the fundamental principle of the serum is not to modify cells but to create a more efficient way of storing energy."
Dr. Erskine paused before continuing, "If we consider ordinary people as water cups, Bucky and the others, after enhancement, are like buckets. But you, sir, you are more like a water tank. Regular individuals can achieve the level of Bucky and the others by injecting the serum, but you don't need it at all."
George raised an eyebrow, amused. "That's one way to put it."
"To be more precise," Erskine added, "your body's cells have adapted far beyond the serum's design parameters. The serum would be redundant at best, and at worst, it might destabilise what you already are."
Although George suspected Dr. Erskine was exaggerating, he appreciated the compliment. Everyone enjoys hearing nice things about themselves.
He was also realistic. He couldn't enhance his physical abilities by basking in the sun like Superman. His strength came from years of work, the Heart-Shaped Grass, and over forty years of passive modification by Chaos Energy.
It wasn't divine or limitless, but it was enough for now.
As George left the lab, he glanced back at the bustling facility. The second net had been cast. Not just a thousand enhanced soldiers, but a foundation for the world he was building, quietly and thoroughly. The kind that would last beyond headlines or wars.
Understanding that he couldn't rely on the serum, George decided to put this path on hold. After all, he had other unique enhancements, so there was no rush.
He suggested that Dr. Erskine continue researching the Infinite Formula obtained from HYDRA. Unlike the Super Soldier Serum, the Infinite Formula primarily extends human life rather than enhancing the body. Additionally, it can rejuvenate individuals who are near death if injected, restoring them to full health.
However, the drawback of the Infinite Formula is significant: it must be continuously injected; once treatment is stopped, aging accelerates rapidly.
Although George wasn't particularly impressed with the Infinite Formula due to its limitations, he thought researching it could still provide valuable insights.
This September, the United States will establish the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Its primary tasks will be to openly and covertly collect and analyse intelligence on foreign governments, companies, terrorist organisations, individuals, politics, culture, technology, and other relevant aspects.
The CIA will also coordinate the activities of other domestic intelligence agencies and report this intelligence to various departments of the U.S. government.
Furthermore, the CIA is responsible for maintaining a substantial amount of military equipment, which was utilised during the Cold War to prepare for the potential overthrow of foreign governments, such as the Soviet Union and other adversaries that posed a threat to U.S. interests.
The agency will be headquartered in Langley, Virginia.
To counter Western intelligence infiltration, the Soviet Union will launch the "Red Room" project (also known as the "Black Widow Project") next year.
This project primarily focuses on female orphans who lost their families due to war, with Natasha, the future Avenger, being one of its subjects.
George recalled that the Strategic Scientific Reserve should have been disbanded by now, leaving Carter unemployed at this time.
He wondered if he could make some arrangements in advance to disrupt "Black Egg." Additionally, with him around, Thanos would not have the opportunity to snap his fingers, and he couldn't afford to lose Captain America's wife either. It seems he needed to make some preparations.
In the coming years, various spies would be rampant, and George was determined to stay ahead.
"Monday, connect to Bucky," George instructed the computer at his desk.
"Okay, Master. Connecting, please wait," Monday responded mechanically.
The video feed displayed Bucky, dressed in a training uniform, standing with his back to his subordinates as he faced the camera.
"Boss, Bucky reporting in. What are your orders?" Bucky said to the camera.
"Bucky, I had Monday send you a piece of information. Arrange for someone to make contact and infiltrate these organisations. Don't aim for a high position, but ensure that the information is reliable. Also, follow up on Ryan, the mole on HYDRA's side that I mentioned before. There's no rush; those organisations are still in their infancy, so we have time to take it slow," George instructed.
"Understood, Boss. I guarantee the mission will be completed," Bucky replied solemnly.
"Hmm, that's all for now; be careful," George said before disconnecting the video call.
The underground forces of the United States were his first net, while the 500 super spies constituted a second net targeting various intelligence organisations. With some personnel placed in S.H.I.E.L.D. as well, a comprehensive intelligence network could essentially be formed.
"Fred, please send Ms. Peggy Carter an invitation. I would like to invite her to dinner," George instructed someone outside the door.
"Yes, Master," came Fred's reply, accentuated by his standard British tone.
