Chapter Sixty: Give Up!
Reign's head throbbed from the earlier blow, but he forced his eyes open. His vision was hazy, yet he could still make out Maxx's looming body in front of him.
Maxx's knuckles cracked. "You've been a thorn in my side for too long, Reign."
Reign spat a trace of blood onto the floor, smirking despite the pain. "And yet, here I am, still breathing."
The smirk was enough to set Maxx off. His fist connected with Reign's jaw once, then twice, then again to the ribs. The dull thuds filled the air, each hit sending a jolt through Reign's body.
Isabelle's heart started beating faster and uncontrollably as she watched. "Stop it!" she shouted, her voice started trembling with rage more than fear.
Maxx turned his head toward her, breathing hard. "Why? He's been protecting you all this time. I think he deserves a reminder that he can't win."
