Chapter 236: Spirit Hall Team vs. Heaven Dou Second Team
"Martial Spirit True Body!"
Oscar's role was to inject soul power into Ning Rongrong to maintain the fusion state of her fourth soul skill, enhancing the soul power of Dugu Yan, Yu Tianheng, Xiao Wu, and Tang San.
These four, in terms of soul power, were not far off from the Shrek Four Monsters in the original story. Add to that Gu Chen, already a Soul King, and with all of them boosted by enhancements, their combined power reached the Soul Sage level—enough to activate Gu Chen's Devourer Spider Emperor true form.
Upon doing so, Gu Chen's body expanded dramatically, reaching seven meters in length. Each spider leg extended beyond five meters.
The Devourer Spider Emperor's martial spirit extended legs from the back, unlike the Death Spider Emperor, which absorbed the user's legs during possession. The Spirit Hall team now faced a grotesque, ten-meter-tall armored spider that protected all six members of the Heaven Dou Second Team.
Gu Chen utilized split-focus control with the Heart of Four Apertures. Two legs supported his body while the other six moved with incredible agility, as if part of his own limbs. The razor-sharp legs scraped against the Golden Crocodile's iron-like scales, sending sparks flying and leaving marks.
"Stay back! Attack from range! The Devourer Spider Emperor is poisonous—interrupt their seven-in-one fusion!"
Tianchen shouted. Even his body bore marks from the spider's strikes. Others wouldn't stand a chance if they got hit.
Xie Yue and Hu Liena didn't activate their spirit fusion skill. Hu Liena had been wounded earlier by Tang San's spiritual backlash. Facing Gu Chen's monstrous armored spider, their Bewitchment fusion would be ineffective.
That fusion skill mainly released a red mist that dulled senses, suppressed soul power, and slowed reactions by 50%. However, the mist had limited range—too small to envelop the massive spider form of Gu Chen.
"Fifth Soul Skill: Scorching Flame Tempest!"
"Third Soul Skill: Multiple Rod Shadows!"
Tianchen blocked the spider's path, while Qianguliuyun and Yan used ranged attacks. Multiple Coiling Dragon Rods and lava columns rained down on Gu Chen.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Explosions echoed across the field.
"Fifth Soul Skill: Fierce Golden Crocodile!"
Golden light and flames intertwined, forming a massive, near-solid golden crocodile. It rammed into the Devourer Spider Emperor, causing another explosion. Gu Chen was knocked backward, internal energy surging wildly. The rest of the team grunted from the backlash.
Clang!
A phoenix-like cry echoed. Twenty meters above, Qingfeng's first soul ring lit up. He fired a soundwave projectile at the team's core: Ning Rongrong and Oscar.
These two were clearly the heart of the fusion—an obvious weak point.
Meanwhile, Xie Yue circled from the arena's edge, aiming to strike from behind. The Seven-in-One Fusion, while powerful, had glaring vulnerabilities. The users had to transfer most of their soul power forward, leaving themselves defenseless and without martial spirit armor—basically standing targets.
Gu Chen sighed. He had hoped his true form would allow him to one-shot them all—but he had underestimated the Spirit Hall team's raw strength.
"Disperse! Activate Plan B!"
At his call, Oscar stopped transmitting soul power. As if rehearsed, the team instantly shifted. Tang San stepped forward and swung his Clear Sky Hammer at Xie Yue.
Yu Tianheng leapt high. Having broken through level 40, his left arm had undergone partial dragonification. His first soul ring lit up, forming a lightning claw to intercept the soundwave projectile.
But Qingfeng's attack pierced the claw. Yu Tianheng caught it with both hands and was pushed back several steps.
Tianchen chuckled. "Without your fusion, your already slim chances have dropped to zero."
Gu Chen, forced back a few meters by the loss of energy amplification, responded, "We'll see about that."
Then came a sharp screech. Green light flared—Dugu Yan. Her emerald eyes deepened in hue, and her snake tail shimmered with a green-violet glow. She opened her mouth and released a thick green mist.
"Fourth Soul Skill: Jade Phosphor Toxin!"
The green fog surged forward like a wall toward the Spirit Hall team. This poison was even more lethal than her previous ones—Yu Tianheng dared not touch it. Even a Soul King would have to constantly resist it with soul power or risk dissolving into pus.
But the Spirit Hall team remained calm. Qingfeng dove from the sky and activated his third soul ring.
"Third Soul Skill: Doomsday Wind Orb!"
From his mouth came a teal sphere of wind. Initially the size of a palm, it rapidly expanded while spinning, whipping up violent winds. Like a vortex, it swallowed the toxic mist completely.
The green fog vanished. Red mist rose in its place. The seven members of Spirit Hall became six, with one replaced by a new figure—long-haired, androgynous, wielding two two-meter-long Moon Blades. Yaomei had entered the field.
"This battle ends now."
The red mist expanded, engulfing all seven members of the Heaven Dou Second Team. At that moment, Gu Chen shifted back to the Bone Dragon, activated his fourth ring, and vanished in a black vortex.
He reappeared behind the Spirit Hall team—specifically behind their support member, Xu Yu.
Switching back to the Devourer Spider Emperor, Gu Chen drove a venomous spider leg through Xu Yu's body. Then he switched back to the Bone Dragon.
Xu Yu stiffened and collapsed.
In the Pope's Hall, Ning Fengzhi and Bone Douluo grinned in delight.
"Gu Chen!"
The remaining four turned in shock. Tianchen's face darkened. His third ring lit up, and he lunged at Gu Chen.
Gu Chen activated his second and fifth rings. His body became encased in bone—like a turtle retracting into its shell. He made no move to attack, only to defend against Tianchen's crushing tail strikes.
