Chapter 120 - Chapter 119: The Dedication of the Altar

When Moses had completed the setting up of the tabernacle, he anointed and consecrated it with all its furnishings, as well as the altar and its utensils, making them holy to the LORD.

Then the leaders of Israel—the heads of the tribes and families, those over the census of the people—came forward with their offerings. Together they brought six covered carts and twelve oxen: one ox from each leader, and one cart from every two. These they placed before the tabernacle.

The LORD said to Moses, "Accept them, for they shall be used in the work of the Tent of Meeting. Give them to the Levites, each according to the service required of him."

So Moses received them and distributed them: two carts and four oxen to the Gershonites for their work, and four carts with eight oxen to the Merarites, all under the care of Ithamar, son of Aaron the priest. To the Kohathites, however, Moses gave none, for they were charged to carry the holy things on their shoulders.

When the altar was anointed, the leaders brought their gifts for its dedication, one leader each day.

On the first day, Nahshon son of Amminadab, leader of Judah, brought his offering: one silver plate and one silver bowl filled with fine flour mixed with oil, a golden dish filled with incense, a young bull, a ram, and a year-old male lamb for a burnt offering, a male goat for a sin offering, and for the fellowship offering—two oxen, five rams, five male goats, and five year-old male lambs.

On the second day, Nethanel son of Zuar of Issachar brought the same.

On the third day, Eliab son of Helon of Zebulun brought the same.

On the fourth day, Elizur son of Shedeur of Reuben brought the same.

On the fifth day, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai of Simeon brought the same.

On the sixth day, Eliasaph son of Deuel of Gad brought the same.

On the seventh day, Elishama son of Ammihud of Ephraim brought the same.

On the eighth day, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur of Manasseh brought the same.

On the ninth day, Abidan son of Gideoni of Benjamin brought the same.

On the tenth day, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai of Dan brought the same.

On the eleventh day, Pagiel son of Ocran of Asher brought the same.

On the twelfth day, Ahira son of Enan of Naphtali brought the same.

Thus each leader of Israel presented his gift: in all, twelve silver plates, twelve silver bowls, and twelve golden dishes. The silver weighed a total of 2,400 shekels by the sanctuary standard, and the gold a total of 120 shekels.

The burnt offerings amounted to twelve bulls, twelve rams, and twelve lambs with their grain offerings, plus twelve male goats for the sin offerings. For the fellowship offerings there were twenty-four oxen, sixty rams, sixty male goats, and sixty lambs a year old. These were the gifts for the dedication of the altar after it was anointed.

And when Moses entered the Tent of Meeting to speak with the LORD, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the Testimony. And the LORD spoke with him there.
