"You mean, you are not Carmelita?"
Kendrick's voice trembled on the edge of doubt and shock, his eyes widening in raw disbelief.
"No." Hiraya shook her head, looking away from him, a flicker of pain flashing across her eyes before vanishing like it was never there.
"Then if you are not, Carmelita, who are you? What world did you come from?" Kendrick hesitated briefly before adding. "Are you from another planet? And what led to your death in an explosion?"
A soft, almost taunting chuckle escaped Hiraya's curved lips at Kendrick's third question. She slowly rose to her feet with a deliberate grace and pivoted toward him, her gaze locking onto his.
"I'm afraid I can't respond to any more of your questions, Mr Silva. I have no intention of relieving my past, nor do I owe you an obligation to reveal my true identity. There are some questions best left unanswered and some secrets best left uncovered. I appreciate all you've done for me in the past. But it's time to move on."
