Chapter 22 - What kind of being is this?

Lydia's pov

Ugh- I held my mouth, fighting the urge to retch, and again my eyes became blurry. I knew it was the blood shock thing again, but suddenly my chest burned and I felt the necklace again. This time it was better than before.

I placed my hand on my chest and closed my eyes, enduring the pain for some minutes before it completely stopped.

Ophelia did a great job giving me this necklace. It is helping me from the blood shock and also shielding my wolf from being seen by witches or wizards that are evil.

I dropped the dagger on the floor, and when I was about to join the rest, a shiny stone caught my attention. The guy I just killed, his body flared away, and the shiny stone lay on the place he was laying.

Was this a kind of game that rewards heroes with gems and gifts if they kill an enemy?

I wanted to ignore it, but it was as if I was pulled towards it. When I wanted to touch it, I heard a loud voice belonging to the guy's partner, the lady.

"Don't dare touch it!" and my hand froze midair. The force pulled me again to touch it, and before I could, something hit my hand off, causing my hand to pain me.

When I noticed what it was, I saw it was a serpent with arms and legs but still lying on its stomach. It immediately picked the shiny stone with its mouth and began to run with it towards the lady, and I instantly knew she was the one controlling it.

Running after the serpent, I saw the lady a bit distracted, looking towards my direction, and she made the same sign she and the guy did in the air. An ignivore jumped out of the portal she created, and this time it came for me, two of them.

I was shocked for a while. I don't even have magic to defeat these weird beings. But don't I have legs?

Of course I do!

I began to run as fast as my legs could carry me, but I was no match for their speed, and in no time I felt heat spread around my back one of them had just released fire from its mouth, but luckily I was a bit far away.

This thing is about to burn me alive, I muttered under my breath… but I don't want to die yet. Looking at Mia and the rest, I noticed when they hit the horns of the ignivore, they would lay lifeless and disappear.

Wow, that is awesome. Guess I know a way to defeat them.

"Hey losers!" I shouted, walking backwards slowly. They growled as they were coming closer to me, their eyes even more scarier at close look.

I quickly glanced back and saw that I was about to touch my back to a rock. "Good," I muttered under my breath, a mischievous grin playing on my lips.

"Look there!" I said, pointing at another place, and they got distracted for a minute. I took that opportunity to use a nearby stone to hit the first one's horn, and its body became limp, falling down like I just shot it with a gun, shrieking in pain that almost made me go deaf.

Then the second one saw that its partner was dead, and it became fierce. It was ready to pour fire from its mouth. I was scared terrified of being burned to death and then I swung my leg in the air, hitting its horn very hard. The force made me fall on the floor, and again it let out a piercing shriek before falling down lifeless. I sighed in relief.

I couldn't believe I just killed two ignivores, and I felt oddly satisfied.

Looking forward, I saw the lady now running from Mia and the others. I smiled in satisfaction.

Then she did something unexpected she used her thumb to trace her neck, showing me that I would die soon. I laughed at her sign, then did the same thing back to her and watched her glare at me one last time before disappearing with her serpent. I sighed in relief.

"Just because you killed her partner and killed two ignivore you think you are a hero," I heard Delia's mocking voice in my head, and I rolled my eyes.

"I just saved our ass from being killed," I replied and heard her laugh.

"Not without my help," she said, and I scoffed at her words.

I admit it she helped too, but I won't give her her flowers.

"I did all the work while you just instructed, and for the ignivore? I killed them myself," I said proudly and heard her laugh again.

"Then I should clap for you," she mocked.

"Cut it!" I said, not ready to argue with her.

Why do I have such an annoying wolf? I wondered.

Looking around, I couldn't find Mia and the rest, which made my heart skip a beat. Where could they possibly be? I asked myself, still scanning the area with caution. Then my eyes landed on a strange figure…

It was a lady judging by her shape. She looked like a shadow from afar, but upon closer inspection, she wore a black tight fitting gown that hugged her curves.

She walked toward me, taking each step gracefully, and only one person came to mind.

Alisha? I muttered under my breath, still watching closely at who it was then I noticed she wasn't Alisha. It was something else.

"I hope she doesn't eat humans," I whispered under my breath, and Delia corrected immediately.

"You are a werewolf."

My lips twitched at her correction. Being a werewolf is a thing I need to embrace now.

When the lady came into view, I noticed her face was missing no eyes, no mouth, no nose. Just empty. A chill ran down my spine.

Then she stretched her hand out, about to touch my face.

I stood stiffly in fear, waiting for what was to come, until I heard Mia's voice.

"Don't let her touch your face! She will steal your face!"

And I was stunned.

What kind of being is this?.
