Chapter 76 - The Plan

For the next two days and nights, Liebe and Licht searched high and low for any trace of the demon, maintaining constant communication with Alysa and Elizabeth. Finally, after tireless effort, they began working on their plan.

It was after the 144th checkpoint when Liebe said,

"So, here's everything we know so far. We've confirmed the demon is here, but we still can't pinpoint its exact location. For some reason, we can only sense its magic power during certain unknown intervals. And no matter how fast we move or what we try, we've never been able to actually see it. That part remains a mystery."

He continued, "We've sensed its magic power very close to both Elizabeth and Alysa. But thanks to the checkpoints and their bodysuits, we know they're safe—for now. As of this moment, there have been 144 checkpoints, which equals three full days. But we don't know how much longer we can guarantee their safety."

"The strange thing is," Liebe added, "I'm sure the demon is aware of their presence by now. So why hasn't it made a move? That part doesn't sit right with me."

"And now, the biggest clue: the soil sample," he said, holding it up. "We found high concentrations of arsenic. It's commonly used in knighthood assassination missions to mask mana traces, which means this demon isn't just using it—it knows how it works. The only way that's possible is if it has an underground nest."

Licht nodded. "That makes sense. And based on the pattern, it's definitely moving. But for some reason, it's forced to reveal its magic power at certain points."

He spread out a map. "Here's the full map of the Red Light District. Now look—based on the readings we've marked, if we trace the strongest signals, they all converge at Point Alpha. We've sensed its power there more than twelve times. That has to be the nest."

"Then we strike," Liebe said. "Before it can checkmate us."

"Agreed," Licht said. "Twenty-four hours from now, we'll flank it from all four directions. And we must make sure it doesn't escape."

"Also, remember," Liebe warned, "tomorrow night is the full moon. That's when it'll be at its strongest. We need to wait it out."

"That's the plan," Licht confirmed. "We have exactly 36 hours left—or 60 checkpoints."

"Let's end this freakshow," Liebe muttered.

"Alright," Licht replied, "go take your 12-hour break. I'll handle the preparations."

"Thanks," Liebe said, and he left to rest.

Sixteen checkpoints later, Licht stood alone, quietly suiting up.

"About four hours left till Liebe wakes up," he muttered. "It's better if I do this alone. I've already changed into my real uniform—this decoy suit will only hold me back now. There's no point in hiding it anymore."

He looked toward the horizon.

"Sorry, Liebe. But I think it's for the best that I finish this myself. The sunlight should help... just a little."
