Chapter 22 - Extort money

This was a moment when Emma thought she was going to die for sure. However, instead of the expected pain, she heard a crisp clanging sound, like two sharp objects colliding. Emma opened her eyes and saw a feathered arrow and an iron ball at her feet.

When she turned around, she saw a conspicuous circular gap on the floor-to-ceiling window of the compartment.

The window which was originally designed for guests to enjoy the scenery, had become a perfect opportunity for someone to spy on and assassinate them.

Emma couldn't imagine what would have happened if Elijah hadn't shot that arrow just now.

The iron ball would have hit her head for sure...

"Let's go." This place was not safe. Elijah picked up his bow and arrow, took a step forward, and held her hand to leave.

The palms of the girl's hands were all sweaty, obviously frightened by his actions just now. But there was no chance to explain in such an urgent situation.

To comfort her, he could only hold her hand tighter. Emma's heart was still pounding. No one could remain calm after experiencing what just happened. She even thought Elijah really wanted to kill her...

Fortunately, it was just a misunderstanding. But the force of that iron ball was so great that it could penetrate such thick glass. Was it aimed at her or at Elijah? Emma asked, "Elijah, is someone trying to kill you?"

"How come you're not calling me 'brother' anymore?" He raised an eyebrow, his gaze narrowing, his voice still as magnetic and pleasant as ever.

Emma touched her nose and spoke confidently, "We're on the same boat after all, no need to be so polite to our own people, right?"

She only called him "brother" when she was trying to please him, but otherwise, she was quick to use his name.

Elijah's lips curled up. "Yes."

The little girl's voice was soft and pleasing no matter what she called him.

"You haven't answered my question from earlier."

"There are always some restless people."

After all these years, he was used to those who were determined to assassinate him.

After speaking, Elijah looked at Emma with a slight movement of his eyes and asked, "Are you afraid?"

He was at the center of the vortex, naturally in great danger.

Assassinations like today were commonplace.

Emma was slightly stunned, feeling like his words seemed to have a deeper meaning. But she didn't think too much about it and just raised the bow named "Galaxy" in her hand, her pretty face showing the same disdain as his, and said boldly, "What's there to be afraid of? They're just a bunch of ghosts and snakes."

There were plenty of people who wanted to harm her too, after all.

Just come at her and she'll cut them down.

Elijah hooked his lips, his pitch-black eyes showing a hint of amusement.

"Not bad."

The little girl had courage, and he liked that.

But what Emma didn't say was that if she ever had the ability in the future, or if Elijah needed her help, she would also repay the favor.

As they walked out, they went all the way until they were outside the Ten Li Fragrance. The cold wind outside woke Emma up a bit, and she realized that Elijah had been holding her hand tightly the whole time.

His rough and big palm wrapped around her small hand. Looking down, his five fingers were long, clean, and beautiful, showing that he was used to a life of luxury.

But in the palm of his hand, she could faintly feel a thin callus that had been formed from years of practice.

Everyone said that Elijah was of noble status, and everyone only saw his surface glory, but who knew how many hidden dangers he had to face behind the scenes.

Emma had wanted to pull her hand back, but she didn't say anything when she thought of this. It was just that he was protecting her out of kindness.

In the end, Elijah personally sent her home.

"Get some rest."

"Okay."

After Emma got out of the car, she leaned her head in through the window and kindly reminded him, "Big brother, be careful." She looked sincere.

Elijah, however, twitched the corner of his mouth.

Did this little girl misunderstand his strength?

But he still nodded. "Don't worry."

Only after Emma turned and went into the house did Elijah handsome face showed a bit of helplessness and amusement.

Especially when she thought of that sentence.

We are all on the same boat.

Hmm...

On the same boat.

He curled his lips, and it was undeniable that when he heard Emma's words, his calm heart seemed to be touched by something, with indescribable complex emotions.

As for the guy who almost killed the little girl today...

Elijah's face darkened, and he made a phone call. His tone was no longer as light as before, only endless resentment: "Have you caught him?

Leave him alive."

In the dark night, the car quickly drove away and gradually became blurred.

Emma went back to her room, took a shower, and lay on the big bed, but her heart couldn't calm down for a long time.

Everything that happened today was like a dream.

She sat up, picked up the bow and arrow on the bed, and gently rubbed it twice.

This gift was special and precious. What should she give in return?

Emma pondered for a while, and finally sighed.

With Elijah's background and identity, he lacked nothing, and this issue had to be considered later..

When she placed the bow and arrow properly, Emma accidentally saw a necklace from a box.

It was a simple style, with a black cord hanging a very delicate silver crescent moon.

This was something she had worn since she was a child, and she liked it very much and cherished it.

But she had quietly taken it off before, after being mocked by William for being too plain.

Now, Emma put the necklace back on.

But what Emma couldn't understand was the tiny Y-shaped symbol engraved beneath the full moon on the necklace.

When she was younger, she had asked her parents about its meaning, but her father had given a vague answer, saying that the letter Y was the abbreviation for the last letter of Amelia's name.

Emma felt that it was a stretch, after all, why would her mother's name be abbreviated on her own necklace? She didn't delve any further and went to sleep contentedly.

The next morning, Emma had to go to school. Before leaving, she asked her Second Uncle Thomas, "Did you forget to buy my bag? Second Uncle, were you too busy yesterday?"

Thomas laughed awkwardly, "Haha, yes, I forgot. Second Uncle will definitely buy it for you today!"

Emma waved her hand in disgust, "Never mind, what can I expect from you? Give me back my money!"

"Emma, Second Uncle is your elder, how can I take your money? Don't worry, consider it as a loan from you to Second Uncle, and I'll pay you back in a while, okay?"

"Hmph, look at you, still calling yourself my Second Uncle? Keep the money, it's embarrassing!" Emma sneered and turned to get on the car.

In just a few words, she portrayed herself as a spoiled and headstrong rich girl. Yesterday, she had given Thomas her card and deliberately said that she wanted to buy a bag, knowing full well that Thomas was the kind of person who would take the money and not do anything.

The reason she did this was to use the hundred thousand in the card to give Thomas a second chance to mess up.

Sixty million lost, his position obtained through connections gone, his wife fighting and arguing with him every day, and his daughter solely focused on climbing the social ladder...

Emma rubbed her chin, a wicked smile playing at the corners of her mouth.

She wondered, pushed to his limits, what would Thomas do?

Would he hire a hitman?

Would he take matters into his own hands?

Emma laughed.

She guessed that Thomas's next move would be to kidnap her, then pose as a kidnapper to extort money from her father.
