Chapter 19 - Chapter 18- Vampire's favorite spot to bite

GASP

"Wh-what—"

"Um, is something wrong?"

Lecan ruffled his raven-black hair and cast a calm, knowing glance toward Agatha. She stood there, both hands covering her mouth, her eyes wide and blinking as they reflected his image back at him with an intensity he hadn't expected.

The sparkle in her eyes only made him appear more exaggeratedly handsome.

He had just gotten a haircut and was wearing a dapper blue suit with fitted black pants; beneath it, a white shirt hugged the contours of his muscular form. His sharp features were perfectly symmetrical, flaunting a flawless nose and gleaming lips.

He looked manly enough to elicit the gasp from her lips.

Perhaps he wouldn't be considered divine or otherworldly, but he could easily pass for a male model. For Agatha, who had witnessed his transformation from a chubby teenager to this striking figure, his charm had multiplied tenfold.

She found herself in awe.

Of course, it wasn't the cliched movie-style love at first sight; it was more a deep appreciation from someone who understood both the outer and inner beauty of the person standing before her. The thought of that beauty now being appreciated by everyone else warmed her heart.

"N-no! You just look amazing!"

"Wait, don't mess up your hair!"

Agatha shook her head frantically before sprinting forward, grabbing his wrist and tugging him down as she attempted to adjust his hair.

Their proximity allowed him to hear her breath quicken. He could almost see her heart racing, realizing that there was a palpable hormonal reaction happening within her, akin to what any human female might experience when faced with a sudden attraction.

However, Agatha wasn't someone who would easily tumble into infatuation, setting her apart from the confusion that typically clouds the minds of most teenagers at such moments.

His gaze remained locked on hers as she focused on fixing his hair.

Her face bore a slight roundness, and despite her beauty, the exhaustion from long, hard work was evident, placing her in the realm of above-average looks.

Her lips were somewhat chapped, wearing little lipstick, and they trembled slightly.

As she stretched her hand, her neckline revealed her collarbone, captivating him.

Gulp

Instinctively, his focus shifted to her carotid artery and jugular veins. For a vampire, those two arteries presented an enticing offering, especially if they belonged to a human whom they found attractive.

His gaze averted, as if he wished to suppress the thirst that surged within him.

Vampires typically targeted human females, preferring to bite the neck where their upper fangs would penetrate the carotid artery—responsible for delivering blood from the heart to the brain, face, and neck—and their lower fangs would enter the jugular veins to extract the deoxygenated blood returning from the brain to the heart.

This biting process allowed them to inject pheromones into the bloodstream—especially in human females—which elicited feelings of pleasure simply through the act of consuming their blood.

Vampire pheromones stimulate blood flow, thin the blood, and enhance levels of dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin in the brain, creating an artificial sense of love and desire. The pheromones would return to the heart, increasing its rate.

And the reason for his sudden short reaction was simialr to an examole where inagine if someone has a crush on a person and suddenly that person appears before them naked, what might be their first thought?

To engage in intimacy?

But of course, a human with a crush on someone would most likely not act like an animal and pounce on her; he would control his desires and instincts in that moment. Vampires are the same way; they do not lose control either.

"Ahem, so, were you headed somewhere?"

Lecan refocused, skillfully controlling his instinct, which would have amounted to human arousal, and turned his attention back to the present. He tucked his hands into his pockets.

He glanced down at Agatha, who barely reached his shoulder.

'Will it work?'

Lecan narrowed his eyes, concentrating on her heart.

A crimson glint flashed briefly in his eyes as he activated his ability to manipulate blood, a skill every vampire possessed, to increase her heart rate.

It was an attempt to induce an ephemeral feeling of affection without the need to bite her neck.

"Uh, yes, I..."

Agatha retreated slightly, her gaze darting between him and the other matters on her mind. Her hands clenched at her sides, and words faltered on her lips as an unexpected thought surged within her mind.

'Wait, he's become handsome, and… he even has a girlfriend?! Huh?!'

Smack!

'Shut up!'

Agatha swatted her own cheek, clasping onto herself tightly as she felt her mind spiral into convoluted ramblings. She couldn't believe the thoughts that had just flitted through her mind, as if she were indeed falling for him, all while wrestling with burdensome feelings of separation.

"Hey, what are you doing?"

Lecan watched, clearly astonished as she slapped herself, looking like a startled rabbit caught between two hands, his gaze locked onto her eyes, which blinked in surprise, reflecting his red ones in a humorously exaggerated manner.

"Oh, just exercising," she declared, quickly lowering her hand.

But as she did, two red marks appeared on her cheeks, not from embarrassment but from the force of her slap, the shock jolting her from her nonsensical thoughts.

Gasping for breath, she placed both hands on her waist, standing confidently in her office dress.

"Eh... I see."

Lecan raised an eyebrow, nodding while stifling a chuckle. He found it amusing that she was hiding two significant truths from him: first, her illness, and second, her plans for another date.

He understood the reasons behind her silence, having witnessed how human nature often leads one to suppress emotions, overthinking every possible outcome, even when they project an image of toughness.

Right now, her subconscious was likely telling her that there was no need to share everything with him. He also knew it wasn't just her mind playing tricks—it was her karma as well, subtly steering her clear of entangling him in her difficult reality.

"Lecan, can I talk to you for a moment?"

Velmira stepped forward, casting an icy gaze at Lecan, her sapphire eyes narrowing slightly, resembling a predator preparing to pounce. This subtle shift went unnoticed by Agatha but was readily apparent to Lecan, who knew exactly what she was plotting.

Turning toward Agatha, who was entirely focused on Velmira, he reached out and grasped her palm gently.

As her eyes were instinctively drawn back to him, he proposed softly, "Would you like to go on a date with me, Agatha?"

"Huh? Eh—!!????"
