"Human nature can be amusing sometimes "
Soon the class was filled up , it became noisy and rowdy , the boys were passing a football around, the girls were chattering about their weekend ,while the more serious ones were reading with AirPods in their ears to block out the noise.
Amanda finished the assignment on time and she heaved a sigh of relief. And not long after the class president went round to collect them , she gave him hers and immediately laid her head on the table to rest, she was tired both physically and mentally.
After some time the first teacher of the day came in. It was the English teacher Mrs Brown.
She wrote the topic on the board and started teaching immediately.
30 minutes into the class and they started hearing loud talking noises from the classes around them. Mrs Brown was about to go outside and ask about what was going on but a student entered inside and whispered something to her. It was a student everyone recognized. It was Sylvia the school council president.
Everyone watched on as they saw Mrs Brown tremble slightly after listening to what Sylvia told her. She gently put down the marker and turned to the class.
" Everyone take out your textbooks and study more about the topic I'll be back" she said and left the class immediately.
Sylvia was also about to leave but was called back by David who asked her what was going on.
She replied immediately
"A burnt body was found at the dump site. We don't know who it is. All the teachers are having a meeting. "She said and left immediately leaving the class in an uproar.
Amanda on the other hand smiled to herself and continued with what she was doing. David was silent for a while. Then he glanced at Amanda.
He saw he coming from the refuse site this morning and she also smelled of smoke.
She couldn't have know anything about it right ?
The next second, siren blaring could be heard from all over the school with an ambulance following behind. They were there to pick up the body. The police car had two detectives.
They went towards the site and the principal and some teachers were with them. The police car and ambulance stopped and the back door of the ambulance flew open two men came down with a stretcher, then the my picked up the body and placed it on the stretcher before wheeling it back into the ambulance. One of the men gave a signal to the detectives and they nodded then the two men entered the ambulance and it drove off leaving the detectives.
One of the detectives walked to the principal and greeted him so did his colleague.
" I believe you were the one who called ?" He asked after exchanging pleasantries.
" Yes " the principal replied
" I'm Detective Brian and this is my colleague Detective Paul. " he introduced.
Brian was a simple looking man with short brown hair and blue eyes. He looked like he was in his late thirties. He had an air of elegance and dominance around him
Paul on the other hand looked like he just finished college. He had a boyish demeanor. He was blonde with grey eyes. And he held a book and pen.
" Can I talk with the person who saw the body first?" Brian asked and the principal nodded.
"She's in the counseling room. She is deeply traumatized " he said shaking his head. " How long till we know the identity of the victim "
" Two maybe three hours. An autopsy will be conducted immediately ,but since the body was burnt most of the fingerprints would have been destroyed " Brian replied truthfully
The principal took a deep breath
" I really can't imagine something like this happening in my school" he muttered.
" I'm pretty sure you know that a person can't just burn him or herself on purpose. Well unless he wanted to commit suicide but I'm sure they are lots of other ways to commit suicide " Brian said
" You don't mean....." the principal trailed off an unbelieving expression on his face.
" Yes , someone did it " Brian responded looking around " you don't happen to have any cctv cameras around do you ? "
The principal shook his head
"There are some in the auditorium and the basketball court and also one in the library but I didn't see any reason to put any here " He replied
"Hmmm this will be hard " Brian muttered " I guess I just have to wait till we get the identity of the body. You don't mind if I stick around right ?" He asked respectfully.
" of course not. You can wait" the principal replied.
" Thanks I'll go speak to the girl after she calms down." He said and they all walked towards the principal office.
