The Bell of Darkness let out a playful laugh from the sky. She didn't pursue Guo Zhenfeng at all. In her eyes, the lives of abyssal creatures meant nothing. If she could exhaust such a powerful man to death, it would save her a great deal of effort—and risk. What could be more delightful than that?
The soldiers of the Northern Army all knew they had reached a critical moment of life and death. Everyone forced themselves to keep fighting. Even if their soul-guided weapons were on the verge of overloading and exploding, their attacks didn't stop.
Guo Zhenfeng fully unleashed his terrifying offensive power. Wherever his axe swept, the sky trembled.
Even the formidable Ba'an-type abyssal beasts couldn't withstand a full-force blow from him. He rampaged across the battlefield, and countless abyssal creatures fell beneath his Mountain-Crushing Destruction Axe.
But still, more abyssal creatures came. They seemed endless, surging out relentlessly.
The Abyss Plane didn't care about the deaths of low-level creatures. As long as they returned to the abyssal energy pool, they could be reborn—sometimes in mere seconds. The lower their rank, the faster they regenerated.
What the abyss truly sought was to devour the life force of the Douluo Plane. Even plants contained the life energy they craved.
If the abyss succeeded in devouring a principal plane like Douluo, the Abyss Plane itself would evolve into a divine-level realm—not just any god realm, but a powerful and complete one, rivaling the original Douluo God Realm.
At that point, it would break free of regional restrictions and begin hunting across the universe, feeding on the life energy of planets to empower itself. This was the Abyssal Sage King's grand dream!
As for the Holy Spirit Cult—they had long been in contact with the Abyss. The more deaths, the more souls, the more pain and emotion—the more they could absorb. The deaths of tens of millions would be their greatest harvest…
"Human, do you really believe the Douluo Plane deserves to exist any longer? Come with me. Let's become gods together. I will build my own god realm—if you assist me, you too shall claim a god seat. Your ideals are laughable. Only you pose a threat to us. No matter how many humans die, it doesn't matter—we can resurrect. But your kind? You face true death. You are our only fear. You and that spear... and the Life Seed inside you."
"Hah! Self-made god realm? If you were capable, you wouldn't need to go to such lengths. In the end, you're still lacking! You think I didn't anticipate this? Yes, abyssal creatures can resurrect—but did I ever say I didn't leave a backup?"
ROAR!
A massive violet dragon raised its head and roared to the heavens. Behind it, the sixth ring of violet light appeared.
Even though its body and scales bore unhealable wounds, its gaze remained defiant.
"Your… backup?"
The Abyssal Sage King was stunned.
"Look! The weight of endless life—the breath of boundless vitality!"
…
Within the Endless Mountains, at the heart of the Blood God Array, a tiny sprout slowly rose from the earth, radiating vigorous life.
It absorbed the abyssal energy released from the death of abyssal creatures, growing rapidly…
"You! Impossible. There can't be two Life Seeds in one plane!" the Abyssal Sage King roared in disbelief.
"I broke off the purest branch from the Tree of Life. It… is your apocalypse. And I am your destined nemesis!"
"No! Even if you did that, so what? The Abyss Plane has been accumulating power for millennia! Even beneath me, another being close to True God level has emerged. I refuse to believe you weak humans can stop us! Humanity is a treacherous race—they will betray one another for gain. You will never succeed! Never!"
…
The Bell of Darkness gently played with her tiny black bell. If one listened closely, they could hear faint, sorrowful whispers—souls of Northern Army soldiers.
"These abyssal creatures really are trash. They've only just broken through the line—and not even fully. The Federation's reinforcements are almost here. Tsk… not good enough."
She had been sent ahead as a vanguard. Her goal was to absorb as many souls and impurities as she could.
This line needed to fall fast, so they could penetrate deeper into the mainland.
The Douluo Continent was vast and resource-rich. Once the abyssal creatures scattered, even the lowest-ranked ones could easily slaughter ordinary humans. At that point, the amount of energy released would explode. The abyssal beasts would consume more life energy and weaken the plane itself.
And the weaker the Douluo Plane became, the less resistance it could offer. The scales would tip. Eventually, swallowing the entire planet would be simple.
…
Guo Zhenfeng had been raised from childhood with the doctrine that in the face of overwhelming enemies, a man must stand and fight. A general must never cower.
Yet the Douluo Continent had long enjoyed peace. Aside from drills, there had been few real battles—until today.
Only now did he truly understand what it meant to fight a bloody, desperate war.
His soul core surged, flooding him with soul power. He poured everything into the battlefield. As the weakest of the Eight Legions, the Northern Army had too few strong soul masters. The destruction of the outer defensive lines had already claimed most of their elites.
Now, as enemies kept flooding in, Guo Zhenfeng had nothing left but his blood and courage.
Kill. Kill. Kill!
Each abyssal creature he slew might delay the horde for a second. At this point, it didn't matter how far he could go. He knew he wouldn't survive this day. His only goal now was to give everything he had.
Shhk!
His Mountain-Crushing Destruction Axe cleaved through another Ba'an. As the beast disintegrated into gray mist, a wave of exhaustion surged through Guo Zhenfeng's body.
Even a Titled Douluo had limits. No one could fight endlessly without pause. The same held true for him.
And then—the death knell sounded again.
Ding-ling-ling…
The chime was like a summons from the underworld.
Weakened, Guo Zhenfeng's mind responded a heartbeat too slow. His vision blurred. The world fell silent.
All he could hear—was the sweet, deadly ringing echoing in his mind…
