These are relatively narrow, and the abyssal creatures that come through them are weaker. It's very safe and will help you get used to fighting them."
"Alright." Gu You nodded, expression calm.
'Let this calm before the storm end soon.'
After a quick exchange with the stationed troops, Long Yuxue brought Gu You into a passage just over two meters high.
As they walked, she continued explaining, "The garrison here rotates monthly. Our legion has ten main regiments, each with about 1,500 soldiers. Those are the front-line combat troops. Divisions like ours—the Special Ops—are considered auxiliary combat forces and aren't included in that count. The rest are logistics and research staff. All in all, our numbers hover between 25,000 to 30,000 at any given time."
"A few thousand years of accumulated experience means our casualty rate is far lower than it used to be. Normally, after a month of intensive training, new recruits enter a one-year probation period. Only after passing that can they join front-line battles. Your case is special. Because of your strength, you were assigned to Special Ops—but this is also a way for you to become familiar with actual combat against abyssal lifeforms."
After passing three guarded checkpoints, they finally entered the true depths of the Abyssal Passage.
The lighting ahead changed—less artificial, more like faint halos that pulsed faintly.
"That's light from the abyssal side. The C-level passage we're in likely won't contain powerful abyssal creatures. You should be able to handle whatever we encounter. Just remember: actual combat is nothing like simulations or tournaments. You've never fought real soul beasts before, right? You might've competed in matches, but this is life and death. Despite Gu You's immense talent and strength, Long Yuxue knew too many talented newcomers who couldn't adjust to life in the Blood God Legion. The continent had known peace for too long. Gu You nodded silently.
'Strike hard and end it fast. That's always been my way… maybe even too much.'
They continued on for another kilometer. Based on Gu You's calculations, they had traveled at least seven or eight kilometers since entering. The energy fluctuations inside the passage were strange, as if the tunnel wasn't made of solid earth or stone, but something else. It felt like it belonged to another space altogether. That might explain why the abyss couldn't connect to other places freely.
'It's as if the abyss plane stabbed a pipe through space into the Douluo Continent. The creatures can only pass through by crawling along that tube.'
The main pipe was now sealed. The abyss could only seek out side tunnels and try to reopen the main artery.
"Prepare for battle." Long Yuxue's voice turned cold. Her mecha-clad hand flashed with light, and suddenly, a soul weapon appeared.
It was a massive firearm, sleek and long—easily over two meters in length. The barrel alone was long and slender, thinner than the rapid-fire cannon barrel Gu You had repaired earlier, but the energy rippling from it was terrifying. Even Gu You, with his monstrous defense, felt its threat.
The moment she gripped the gun, Long Yuxue's entire aura changed. She no longer exuded cold arrogance. In fact, her presence seemed to vanish altogether. The sense of danger from the weapon faded too, as if she had merged completely into the surroundings.
But she was right in front of him. Her aura suppression was flawless.
'So this is what she's really capable of…'
Gu You had never fully understood Long Yuxue's true power. He'd always guessed she was about five rings, but now he realized he had clearly underestimated her.
After drawing her weapon, Long Yuxue's speed also increased. Her steps became almost soundless, and she moved like a ghost through the shadows.
The deeper parts of the Abyssal Passage were structured in sections. Each section resembled a stone chamber and was ideal for combat.
As they crossed another section, Long Yuxue suddenly stopped. She checked a device in her hand and then made a silencing gesture toward Gu You.
She positioned the tail of her massive soul rifle on the shoulder of her micro mecha. Both hands cradled the barrel as she locked into a firing stance. Her presence dwindled further—no breathing, no sound. She was like a silent statue waiting to strike.
Suddenly, she moved. Her body shifted slightly, and in that moment, her soul rifle fired.
A beam of gray light shot from the muzzle.
'A high-caliber sniper rifle?'
That was Gu You's first thought. But then he shook his head.
'This isn't the time for random thoughts… we're about to enter combat.'
The gray light traveled so fast that even Gu You's enhanced eyes could barely track it.
