"Shrek City can have this kind of mess too? And that girl's so pretty — damn it!" Xie Xie completely lost it, leaping up and chasing after them outside.
Gu You tried to grab him but missed — Xie Xie ran faster than a dog this time. Of course, Gu You knew perfectly well whether that golden-haired youth was a decent person or not; he was just playing along for amusement.
Left with no choice, Gu You handed his card to Gu Yue, asking her to pay first, and then stepped outside to check the situation.
As soon as he reached the street, an intense surge of soul power filled the air.
A brilliant gold light suddenly blazed upward, illuminating the entire street in dazzling radiance…
Inside, Gu Yue looked thoughtfully at the red card in her hand. Xu Xiaoyan eagerly leaned over — it was her first time seeing such a card. Even her family's highest-level cards were only gold.
"Gu Yue-jie, this card must have a lot of money on it, right?" Xu Xiaoyan whispered. Her family wasn't short on money, but her own allowance was tight — she only got sixty thousand yuan per month, which wasn't much.
Gu Yue nodded slightly. "That's a bit rude. If you need money, you can ask him."
"Okay… maybe I'll ask later." Xu Xiaoyan lowered her head, feeling awkward. She wasn't bold enough to just ask outright. Still, Gu You's temper was pretty good; maybe she'd bring it up another time.
Gu Yue calmly paid the drink bill and put the card away.
"Ahhh!"
Xie Xie came flying back, and Gu You reached out to catch him. Xie Xie's face was swollen beyond recognition, like a lump of dough.
Gu You let out a helpless laugh, then turned to look toward the light.
That golden light was coming from none other than the golden-haired youth, the same one who'd been pestering the waitress earlier. His body was now surrounded by radiant golden light, exuding a holy aura.
Three soul rings shone at his feet, and a set of pristine white wings unfurled from his back.
Not far in front of him, the red-haired waitress had stopped, turning to face him with an icy, determined expression. Her arms spread slightly at her sides — and from that moment, the space behind her grew pitch-black, lightly distorting. A pair of black wings spread wide from her back. Her delicate features now carried an eerie, dangerous glow.
"I knew I wasn't wrong. Looks like it really is as I suspected. Interesting… very interesting." The youth smiled as his white wings beat and golden light surged.
The red-haired girl pressed her lips tightly together, then suddenly her eyes flashed, and she melted into the surrounding darkness.
"Trying to run?" the golden-haired youth barked, his first soul ring flaring. The pillar of golden light shot brighter, driving back the shadows. His right hand struck out, his second soul ring lighting up — a beam of holy light blasted forward, instantly forcing the girl's figure back into view, her body shrouded in a dark purple glow.
"Three rings against two. I have the advantage. You're not getting away." His voice brimmed with confidence.
But then, the girl's lips curled into a mocking smirk. She tucked in her wings, landed softly on the ground, and even withdrew her soul rings.
"Idiot. This is Shrek."
Unnoticed, a tall figure had appeared in the sky — his face couldn't be clearly seen.
"Yang Qian, captain of the Outer Court Enforcement Team! Who dares break the rules?"
"Reporting, sir! I am Le Zhengyu of the Angel Clan, a student of the Outer Court second-year class one. We discovered a fallen angel here in Shrek City. As everyone knows, fallen angels have an almost one hundred percent chance of being evil soul masters. That's why I acted, intending to capture her and bring her back to my clan for judgment."
As he spoke, the red-haired girl remained calm, raising a card toward Yang Qian. "Respected enforcer, I am a working student of Shrek Academy. My identity has been verified by the academy. I am not an evil soul master."
Gu You closed his eyes, purple light flickering around him. In his mind, the figure in the sky became clear.
Ever since his spiritual power had reached the Spirit Domain Realm, his Purple Demon Eye had reached its highest level — the Vast Realm!
"Vast" meant that at this stage, he no longer needed to rely on his physical eyes to see — he could observe the world directly with his mind's eye. No illusion could fool him.
His gaze became like his heart, able to perceive all things, penetrate all things. If Gu You wanted to study someone now, he could clearly see their entire outer and inner structure, even their bones and bloodline — let alone simple tricks using soul power.
"Who's there!"
Yang Qian immediately sensed someone observing him.
"It's me," Gu You said calmly, making no effort to hide.
Yang Qian's pupils shrank sharply. When he saw Gu You's familiar face, a cold sweat broke out on his back. This little ancestor?!
He hadn't forgotten that scene when the Holy Spirit Douluo personally stepped in to shield this kid.
"Is there something you need?" Yang Qian asked carefully. He hadn't expected to run into him again after all these years.
"No, I just wanted to see who it was. Didn't expect it to be an old acquaintance." Gu You shook his head lightly.
Yang Qian reviewed the card in the red-haired girl's hand, nodded, and declared, "Her identity is confirmed — she's a registered Shrek working student, no suspicion of being an evil soul master. Since you were acting under suspicion of evil soul masters, I won't issue a punishment this time. But next time, double the penalty. Disperse." With that, he flicked the ID card back to the girl and vanished in a flash of light.
The girl caught her card and looked at Le Zhengyu. Slowly, she raised her thumb — and then turned it downward, pointing at the ground.
"You!" Le Zhengyu's eyes flared with anger.
"Hmph." The girl snorted coldly, turned on her heel, and quickly vanished into the night.
Le Zhengyu made to follow, but his butler caught his arm. "Young master, Shrek Academy's authority is not to be challenged. Since they've confirmed she's clean, we should leave it alone."
Le Zhengyu let out a cold grunt. "Who'd believe a fallen angel isn't an evil soul master? If this is how Shrek works…"
"Not all evil soul masters are necessarily bad."
Gu You's voice came from beside him.
"You again! I got scammed by you already," Le Zhengyu said angrily, standing up.
"Haha. Let's introduce ourselves properly — I believe you won't hold a grudge." Gu You extended his left hand.
Le Zhengyu hesitated for a moment, then clasped it with his right.
"I've never claimed I'm always right," Gu You said quietly. "But let me give you one piece of advice: don't let your light turn so absolute. Even among evil soul masters, there are those who…"
