Because honestly, it was impossible — no matter how much time Xie Xie was given, he could only gaze at Gu You from afar.
It was just like the old saying: even if Gu You let Xie Xie chase him his whole life, the distance between them would still be out of reach.
There are many starting points in life, but no one can deny that real gaps always exist. Some say hard work is useless; others say talent determines everything. These perspectives aren't wrong — but isn't the feeling of climbing the mountain step by step and enjoying the view along the way something even more beautiful?
"Excuse me, could you come over?"
Suddenly, a rather loud voice came from the neighboring table.
Gu You had already noticed them but kept quiet, simply listening as the voice continued: "Give me your soul communicator number."
The tone was clearly arrogant, overbearing.
This was Shrek City! There were people like this here?
Xu Xiaoyan turned her head. At the neighboring table sat a lone figure — he wasn't wearing a Shrek Academy uniform but a sleek white suit. He was very handsome, with short golden hair slicked back with gel, shining with a glossy sheen.
His eyes were striking — golden irises with dark gold pupils — and his whole presence gave off a radiant, almost holy aura.
In terms of looks, only Gu You could rival him in this drink bar.
Standing in front of his table was a girl in uniform — long black skirt, white vest, the standard drink bar outfit. Her skin was pale and delicate, and she was very beautiful, with a fragile, pitiful air.
"Sorry, that's not part of my job," she said softly, bowing slightly.
"Then what would make you give me your number?" the golden-haired youth pressed loudly.
The waitress fell silent, then shook her head and turned to leave.
"What kind of service attitude is that? Bring your manager here!" The youth slammed his hand on the table, drawing glances from all around. Yet, even the Shrek Academy students looked away when they saw who it was; no one stepped up to intervene.
"Please wait a moment." The waitress's voice was calm as she drifted away.
Not long after, a middle-aged man hurried over. "Sir, how can I help you? I'm the manager here."
"I want her soul communicator number." The youth pointed at the waitress still busy at another table.
The manager gave an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, sir — under Federation law, unless she's willing, that's private information, and we can't provide it."
The youth raised an eyebrow. "Then what would it take for you to give it to me?"
"I'm sorry, please don't make things difficult for us," the manager responded politely.
A flicker of gold flashed in the youth's eyes, and an invisible pressure rolled out from him. "Go get your boss."
The manager frowned slightly, about to reply, when a lazy voice cut in.
"I mean… already acting like a greasy 'pretty boy' at your age? What'll you be like when you're grown?"
Gu You spun around on his stool, hands clasped together, smiling as he watched the show.
"Who are you?" The golden-haired youth's golden eyes glimmered with curiosity.
"Who I am doesn't matter. What matters is — today I'm here, just trying to have drinks with my friends. I'm not asking to play the hero, but at the very least, let me enjoy myself, okay?" Gu You said with a half-smile.
"So, you're saying you're going to stand up for this place?" the youth asked with amusement.
"No, no, no — I'm just asking you, as a big-hearted gentleman, to chill out for a bit. Once we're done drinking, there won't be anything left to fuss over." Gu You casually raised his coconut drink and took a slow sip.
"Fine." The youth said just one word, then suddenly stood up and snapped his fingers.
From nearby, a well-dressed middle-aged man walked over and stopped respectfully at his side. "Young master, what are your orders?"
The youth spoke calmly: "Negotiate with the manager. I want to buy this drink bar."
The manager froze, his expression turning a little sour. "Sir, I'm afraid that's not up to me — you'll have to talk to the owner, and besides, we're not looking to sell."
The butler didn't blink. "Hello, I'm Sun Bo. Why don't you take me to your boss, and we can discuss?" As he spoke, he handed over a gleaming golden card.
When the manager saw the card, his eyes widened in shock. He hesitated, then nodded and led the butler into the back.
Even Gu Yue let out a cold snort watching this farce unfold.
"You'd best apologize to me, or else…"
"Or else what?" Gu You yawned lazily.
"You…"
Before the youth could finish, the butler and the owner emerged together.
"Young master," the butler reported calmly, "I've reached an agreement with Mr. Yang, the owner. The payment has been made, and from now on, this drink bar is your property."
The youth nodded and gave Gu You a provocative look.
Damn! Gu You thought. Enough is enough.
"Boss, how much did he pay you? I'll give you ten times that." Gu You pulled out a crimson card.
The surrounding patrons turned to stare, their expressions strange. So many rich guys today? Everyone knew that any shop inside Shrek City was worth a fortune.
"Twenty times," the golden-haired youth said coldly.
"Fifty times," Gu You replied with a generous smile.
"One hundred times," the youth bit out.
"Alright, it's yours," Gu You said, putting his card away and shrugging helplessly.
The youth's eyes widened — he clearly realized he'd been played, but the words were already out; there was no taking them back.
After paying up, the owner couldn't help but beam with joy, throwing Gu You a grateful look.
"Get me her soul communicator number now," the youth demanded, pointing at the owner.
The owner sighed and walked over to the dark red-haired waitress.
Not long after, the waitress came over herself.
She walked right up to the youth's table, her expression cold. "What do you want?"
The youth smiled slightly. "I don't want anything — I just thought you were pretty and wanted to get to know you."
The girl said nothing, just reached up and began unbuttoning her vest.
"I didn't tell you to take off your clothes!" the youth exclaimed, startled.
The girl tossed the vest onto the table. "I quit! So now I'm not your employee, and you can go to hell." With that, she turned and walked away.
The youth's smile only deepened. He stood up slowly, watching her retreating figure. "This just got even more interesting…"
And with that, he followed her out.
