Chapter 8 - If You Can, Why Can't I?

Claudia's POV

I wrapped my hand around his arm again. While continuing to listen to Mr. Rowant's speech, I began to think of a plan to work with him.

"He's starting to come down from the stage. People will surely approach him soon to talk business with him," said Mr. Davion who was watching from where we were standing at the moment.

"If you want to try to work with him, I can arrange it. We can try to approach him and then start introducing ourselves," I said.

"You think that would work? There are tons of other big companies trying the same thing. But Mr. Bridget always refuses their requests. I don't know what exactly is the best way to get him to accept the offer to work together," he said again.

I tell him that we would know soon after talking to him later. "It can't hurt to try, right?"

Mr. Davion finally agreed and we went straight to Mr. Rowan who was standing with the other businessmen.

However, as we were on our way to him, we suddenly heard a man's voice calling out to us.

"Father? Claudia?" he called which made us both immediately look back.

And there he was, I had expected that he would come here with that woman.

I glanced at Mr. Davion, and it seemed that the man was somewhat surprised to see his son in front of us right now. Either he was surprised to find out that his son's girlfriend was alone with him at the moment or he was surprised to see his son with another woman.

He must not know anything about Stephanie yet.

Before I let him talk, I started the conversation first because they had been silently staring at each other.

"Oh Yohan, what a coincidence that you're here. I didn't know that you were coming to the banquet today," I said casually.

"About that I... And you guys-"

I interrupted his sentence again, before he could finish.

"Is this the Ms. Yovanka you were talking about earlier?" I looked her up and down and then up again.

Blonde hair, black eyes and fiery red lipstick. She looked more like a woman on the side of the road who would accept a free ride in exchange for her body.

"She looks beautiful and suits you very well. Are you guys dating?" I continued to ask.

"Dating? But isn't Yohan your boyfriend? Why would he date another woman and... Who is she, Yohan?" his father asked him now.

"Umn... This is Ms. Stephanie Yovanka, father. She is... My business partner. We came together because she had the invitation card. It just so happens that she also doesn't have any friends to come to this banquet," Yohan replied looking for an excuse.

Stephanie showed a fake smile, you sly woman. You guys are really compatible.

She also shamelessly held Yohan's arm in front of me.

"Yohan is right, my name is Stephanie Yovanka. You must be Mr. Davidson, nice to meet you. Your face is very similar to Yohan," she said kindly.

Heh, this snake woman really makes me feel annoyed.

"That's right, I'm Yohan's father. Our faces do look alike," he replied in his usual cold tone.

Well, he's not so cold to me now. So does that mean he has opened up to me?

I tightened my grip on Mr. Davion's arm as if I didn't want to let go, because I didn't want to.

Mr. Davion turned to me and I smiled at him.

"Claudia, why are you holding my father's arm like that? You act like you and my father have a very close relationship," he said to me.

I sighed softly when I heard that. "What's wrong with that? Ms. Yovanka would hold your arm as she were your girlfriend. Then why can't I do it to your father?"

"You-! Why did you have to come to this banquet with my father anyway?"

"Why not? No one forbids it. Mr. Davion himself allowed me to come with him, after all. You never even asked me to go to an event like this," I replied while leaning into his father's arm.

I could see that he was annoyed with the answer I gave.

"That's different, I told you that I came here because Stephanie invited me. I didn't have an invitation to come to a party like that. So..."

"So you're still going to accept her invitation, then come and have fun with other women when I'm just sitting here waiting to hear from you?" I asked her back.

Now he was silent when I said that. I could see him clenching his fists, annoyed by every sentence I said.

But isn't that true?

In the past he hadn't even updated me at all and was busy with this party without telling me he was leaving.

"Of course it's all business. Stephanie asked me so that she could help me talk to other businessmen to work with my company. She helped me a lot, unlike you who..."

He fell silent again before finishing his sentence.

"Like me who what? Never helped you? It's not me who never helped you, but you who never thanked me for what I did for you."

He thinks all the things I do for her are never enough. I did so many things, but he didn't consider any of them.

I should have realized this from the start and not continued to be blinded by love for this ungrateful man.

"You-!"

Again, before he could finish his word again, Mr. Davion stopped him and stood right in front of me.

I could see his broad, well-built back blocking Yohan from coming closer to me.

My heart was beating so fast when he protected me like this.

"Stop it, Yohan! You're making a scene in this place. What Ms. Claudia said is true and you should start appreciating what she did for you!" he said firmly.

I could feel the strong and firm aura in every word he said. A very authoritative man, I like him a lot.

"But father..."

"Enough, I'm not here to argue with my son. Let's continue this conversation at home later." He then turned to me and I took his arm again.

"Mr. Davion is right, it's best not to talk about this in public or it will only attract everyone's attention and make things worse," I replied.

I turned to him and opened my mouth again. "We'd better go see Mr. Bridget before he disappears among the crowd."

He nodded his head. "You're right, we should go see him before he starts working with another company that he might be interested in."

Mr. Davion then led me away from there. I followed him and then looked back slightly, towards Yohan and Stephanie.

I smiled slyly at them, as if to convey that this was just the beginning.

The beginning of the destruction of both of you that will make you cry and feel the pain that I felt before.
