Chapter 17 - Hailie Sonder

...Eirlys, was this your message that you could dox me if you oh so wishes? Because your little idiotic Hailie is sending me a friend request… with your creepy rich-freak fingerprint all over the fact that she knew my username.

Fine, let us see where this goes.

I accepted the request and sent her a message.

"Meet me at Beginning City, east fountain."

It was a long walk from the Catacombs back to the Beginning City. Did you know if you wanna walk across the map in a perfect straight line, it would take approxiamately 20 hours? Yeah, this map was huge, I tried, I know. But, it's possible that the map changed from the Early Access version where I tried.

In the PC version, it was only like 2 hours. The map was more or not didn't change that much, yes, but when scaled for us VR humans, it seemed ten times as large… Probably because our characters are unnaturally big for the environment, if you play MMORPG, you know what I mean.

It was late morning in-game, with sunlight catching on white stone walkways. Banners of crimson and blue flapping in the breeze, that flag urks me considering how dark the story get in the later stages of the game.

I made my way to the fountain where there were two marble angels vomiting water into a glowing pool. I watched the beautiful scenes of players asking for parties and guilds, asking around where this and that NPC were, and how to level up considering there were an obscene amount of competitiors.

I should really check out the forums to see if there's any cool tip-writer wannabe later.

And then she showed up.

Same silver-white hair, bouncing with every step. Her standard issue Ranger gear looked freshly pressed, it seemed like after re-creating her account with the same username that haven't been snatched (or getting revived, who knows?), she continued to choose that class.

When she spotted me, she lit up with a smile that could've cured the Black Plague, and she waved as I just sighed.

"Oh my gosh, hi!!" she beamed. "I wasn't sure you'd actually add me!"

"I'm a goddess, of course," I said flatly with a fake warm smile.

"You looked like one!" Hailie said casually, she didn't seem to notice the venom in my tone. Or maybe she did, and she thought I was just shy.

She had bright, beautiful round cyan eyes, which was probably character creation, because Eirlys' eyes were brown and they're sisters. Her brows were thin and her lips was small, her nose was… What's the word, tall?

Hailie twirled awkwardly, clunkily, like a dancer doing ballet. I noticed a new longbow on her back, probably the cheap one bought over there.

"Isn't this place amazing!" She giggeld, "I spent like ten minutes just watching the people in the bakery throw flour at each other. I didn't even know you could do that!"

I arched a brow. "You stared at a bakery NPC for ten minutes?"

"Those were NPC?! They're so lively! I was a bit too shy to ask and join in, though, hih." she smiled, with her hand on her hair and teeth shown.

I leaned against the stone railing near the fountain, scanning her from head to toe. No visible gear progression, nothing to suggest she had done any good grinding in the dozen hours after we first met. She hadn't done since coming back.

Good, she was still fresh, so she was easier to be plucked from her trees, fresh and ready to eat.
